Today I chose a show at random and watched After School Dice Club, an anime about cute girls playing board games. I thought it was really good! My family has always been into board games, so it was neat seeing them try various different ones. The only one featured on the show that I've ever personally played was Blokus, but they made a few other ones look fun enough that I want to try them someday. It was also neat seeing lots of familiar games in the background of various shops or cafes (though I must say, Pandemic Legacy is a spectacularly poor choice for a board game cafe. That game irreversibly changes as you play it, including drawing on stuff and putting one-time-use stickers on the board. No other customers would want to pick that one up after the first time it was used).

I liked all the characters. They had unique personalities that always shone through in how they played the various games. Midori was experienced and strategic while Aya usually rushed ahead without a plan. There was also a neat subplot where one of the girls invented her own board game, which is something I tried a few times in high school (and, man, did those games I made ever suck...). I also really liked how much depth the characters had. They each explored their doubts and passions in neat ways, especially Midori embracing her dream of creating board games. Shy main girl Miki had some good growth too. Overall, this was a nice and fun anime.

All Laguna needs this year is to outlast Squall and he'll probably go far. It's looking like a real possibility.

Except I hate Laguna so you guys need to let him die, then Squall, then rally behind Selphie instead imho

Even though it's one of my favorites, I'd be interested in hearing your comments! I certainly didn't hold back against The National Anthem, and there are a few in the future that I dislike nearly as much.

This is my favorite Black Mirror episode as well. I love how it doesn't do anything crazy. It simply examines how such a technology would impact peoples lives. The technology isn't inherently evil and it doesn't glitch out in some unexpected way or anything. The grain is flawless, even, and likely does have countless positive impacts on the world. I loved all the little touches in the setting, like when he needed to show someone a quick scan of his recent past in order to travel similar to airport security. The tech is fine. It's the people using it, and their human nature dictating how they use it, which causes all the problems. It starts small with him overthinking the job interview (and, even without the technology, I'm sure all of us are guilty of replaying events in our head over and over about some event or another). Then, of course, it gets a lot darker from there. Even once everything is revealed, I like how the morality of the whole situation is still super unclear. It stuck with me and gave me a lot to think about.

I'm still a few seasons behind, but I finally finished Giant Beasts of Ars from Winter. It showed a lot of promise early on. I liked all of the main characters. They filled their roles well and came together into a fun group. I enjoyed watching them fly around on a hovership slaying giant monsters while learning more about each other and about the weird fantasy world. The action scenes weren't spectacular or anything, but they were fine.

Sadly, the anime fell apart towards the end. It tried to stuff too much plot into too little time, and it wound up leaving several huge plot threads dangling with no resolution. Like, this might be one of the most unsatisfying endings I've ever seen. It wouldn't be so bad if this was an adaptation of something where I could go to the tvtropes page and read what happens in the manga or whatever. This is an anime original, though, and there's been no announcement of another season or a gacha game to continue the story or... anything. I don't know why they would end a story like this with no promise that it'll ever go anywhere. It's super disappointing. Ah well.

The best part about this anime was that there was a group of people who all wore different animals on their head and had some wonderful animal puns in their dialogue. The cat one was a major character and she was purrfect.

Oh, I almost forgot that I wanted to bring this up. Can we switch to a Youtube video of the Lucky Star OP for round two? The only option on animethemes has big purple lyrics all over everything and I really hated it. This video isn't as high quality but I'll take that over the purple lyrics any day. Other people may disagree I guess, I dunno. Just wanted to bring it up because I didn't like the lyrics making it hard to see the girls dancing

This was genuinely the worst episode in any show ever. Even ignoring how disgusting and unrealistic the premise is, I loathed just about everything about how the episode was put together. Apparently in the UK, hospital workers have nothing better to do than stand slack-jawed watching a TV in the waiting room all day. There was that one loser who spent a whole day laying naked in bed giggling about the news. The sheer absurdity of a political party demanding a Prime Minister do such a thing, plus the public demanding he do so as well, plus him going along with it, ugh. There was also that pointless reporter girl. It was all just so over-the-top and awful, the whole way through. Like seriously, every single thing about this episode that was irredeemably terrible. I'm glad it wasn't actually the first Black Mirror episode I watched because, if it was, I never would have watched any more.

Sad to see Dagger go out. Sorry I couldn't do more for her, Nanis! You did a great job carrying her this far, and I still hope that someday it will finally be her year.

The Goblin Slayer OP is great. That K-On ED is not great. When you get down to it, it's basically just an incredibly mediocre music video.

Well, I accidentally deleted my favorites prediction bracket (I chose the wrong one in a match and stupidly thought "delete this prediction" would only erase the last one I put in, whoops). Still, both of my finals entrants are already eliminated (it would've been shadowgraph > Tomadoi Recipe) so I suppose it's no big loss.

I'm 100% going to watch Boogiepop now, too. I just hope the anime is as good as its OP!

I absolutely love the ZLS S2 OP. On the surface it spends a lot of time on the credits, but I really enjoy the creativity it has for the transitions. Like Bane said, it uses so many different colors and styles, and it's all tied together by a great song.

I'm not a fan of that Death Note ED. The SxF ED is also really good, so match two was an easy choice.

Match one was easy. I liked a lot of the transitions in the Baccano OP, but the fact that it was essentially just a list of characters was underwhelming. Besides, nothing beats watching Maho dance.

In match two, I was seriously impressed by shadowgraph. I've never watched Boogiepop, but now I really want to because that OP caught my attention. By comparison, I've always found only my railgun to be kind of meh. I don't even like the BanG Dream cover of it! Just not my kind of song, I guess. I'm sad that something as cool and unique as shadowgraph is probably getting sacrificed to it.

This bothers me about Dead Rising 2 on Steam as well. Every year or so, I get an itch to play it, and I just can't because it doesn't let me use a controller and the mouse/keyboard controls are a joke.

I mostly just like what the keyboard adds in the Roselia version. In the first twelve seconds of both songs, I like the piano backing in the Roselia version way more than the backing singers in the original version. To me, the original feels flat and lifeless without it.

The slideshow auto-loses in match one, but I was also legitimately enthralled by that Ranking of Kings OP. I don't know anything about it, but I'm really interested in watching it after seeing that.

In the second match... I'm probably one of the only people who thinks Cruel Angel's Thesis is lame. Or, that version of it is, at least. This is another song where I've been ruined by the vastly superior BanG Dream cover. Roselia gives the song so much more energy and intensity than the original version ever had. Even ignoring that, though, that OP for The World God Only Knows was really good. It also made me interested in watching the show.

I didn't like that Kill la Kill OP at all. 50% of it was just playing dress-up with the characters. The songs in the second match were both good, but Realize easily wins on animation and presentation.

First match was pretty close, but ultimately I liked the song and style of Nana more. The second match was easy. I'm biased as hell towards Engaged to the Unidentified, but, even if I wasn't, the total lack of animation in that Cowboy Bebop one would've made it lose against almost anything.
