From the last topic:

Holy shit, that fight was crazy. I threw 4 Fireballs in 3 turns of combat. Minor Act 2 spoilers in image, I tagged it just in case

I did this earlier today, it was pretty crazy. I lost the first time. The second time I put Fire Wall on Gale and cast it on the east side where the archers and dogs come from. The Fire Wall made things so much easier, combined with Cleric's Spirit Guardians and Guardian of Faith. The protected target was only hit once.

I love Shadowheart as a character but is it just me or is she kind of mediocre in combat? I'm in Act 2 and was trying out SH instead of Lae'zel. SH has more spell variety but she has lower accuracy, damage, and can only attack once. Lae'zel has an easier time of just tearing through things it feels like.

I did the visit to Granny Ethel and that was pretty wicked. I love how that swamp is charmed to look prettier than it is, but thankfully my Druid saw right through it. I didn't even try to play nice with Ethel after seeing how she talked to Mayrina (whose brothers I killed). Accidentally killed Mayrina in the fight when I tried to douse her cage, probably the first time I really had to struggle not to reload the game after I won the battle. It was a really fun section though, the whole vibe and hag reminded me of Witcher 3.

I think I'll be finishing Act 1 today, pretty excited to see the city finally.

I don't know, I disagree that save scumming is a must in this game. If I lose in a fight I reload, but things like ability checks I don't reload at all. I usually do in games but this game it felt like doing that is a disservice. I've been having a blast with how things have played out, good or bad.

Problem with Chainsaw Man is that half the episode runtime is about how perverted the main character is, in some way or another. It's well-paced but there's still way too much of that.
I feel "half' is an exaggeration but yeah, that's also just Denji. I love him personally, I feel the author does a good balance of having him be an actual person with a horrible childhood and having that be both funny but also depressing.

Do you get to find unique equipment, build skill trees, explore dungeons and magical forests and stuff? Or is it pretty much on rails plot driven with some crafting?
Like others said, pretty much. One thing I don't think we've stressed about crafting yet is just how much variety there is with what you can add to items and how. For a mix maxer there are traits to desire above others (should be ignored until endgame) but there's a lot you can do with making your own equipment.

Torgo posted... Can anyone tell me what games they are similar to?

I assume Rune Factory and harvest moon?
Maybe some monster hunter for the crafting?
Xenoblade Chronicles?
Disgaea?
I guess...none of them? The closest would be RF/HM in terms of the comfy feeling I get playing each one. There's no farming, it's purely crafting in your alchemy pot and each game has a different alchemy system. There's plenty of combat but it's turn-based, and not that hard difficulty-wise. Unless you go beyond Normal mode and do optional endgame bosses, then your ass can be blown off.

What I get out of them is yeah, it's cute anime stuff, but I really enjoy how they're written like they're slice of life in game format with addicting crafting and great music to back it up. I've enjoyed the cast of each game, some more than others, and it's nice as years go by between installments in a subseries so you see them all grow.

We started DA:O but we never got past the first half. I think she kinda made a mistake wanting to try it on the hardest difficulty. Because it turns out the hardest difficulty is...difficult.
If you ever decide to go back to DAO, you can change the difficulty mid-game. I went from Normal to Easy after a while because I just really wasn't enjoying Origins combat and wanted fights over asap.

UnholyMudcrab posted...
I really wish the series could get back to the gameplay of DA:O, with the scripts and commands you can set up for your party to follow, but I know that time is unfortunately long gone.
Does Inquisition get rid of the character tactics stuff, then? That's sad. I enjoyed the combat a lot more in II but I still liked making out directions for each companion.
