I didn't read the article, but I was a little confused when I saw self-checkouts at literal costco. The shit you buy there and the quantity in which it's bought is definitely not self-checkout friendly. Especially when the self-checkout sign didn't have any sort of item limit posted (even if it's never enforced). Seeing people with carts loaded full of things they can barely lift is insane to me, but I do see the value there if I needed to pop in because I ran out of golf gloves (their 4-packs are elite). I would absolutely use the self-checkout in that situation, but I don't know how common that really is at costco.

The Sam's Club near me has the same and it works fine. Most large packages have the barcode on the top so they're accessible with the scanner gun. Besides, someone is going to have to check out those large packages and it may as well be the person who demonstrated they could lift it by getting it into the cart in the first place.

Ive noticed that this message board generally hates dogs. Not just pitbulls but all breeds. Theres been multiple people who talked about wanting them wiped out.

You'd probably see it a lot more if people weren't suspended for saying it. It's a pretty common sentiment.

I just also hate double standards... I don't see why a person should be allowed to shoot a tresspasser to death but if a dog bites a tresspasser who is on private property , somehow the tresspasser is innocent now...

1) Britain, so they'd probably be arrested for shooting a trespasser.

2) There's an ability to show judgement entirely missing with the dogs rather than a person using a gun. For example, if the trespasser is trying to leave and you shoot them in the back it's generally murder, but dogs can't make that distinction.

Dogs are roughly akin to leaving a lethal booby trap; both should be first degree murder.

I've seen major retailers going toward a third bathroom model, with a single toilet in a fairly large bathroom designated as a "family" bathroom that is also suitable for assisting a wheelchair-bound adult as well as a child or children.

Technically true but presented in a way to be deliberately misleading. Overstay is more common but of lower duration - most overstay violations persist for less than a year, while illegal border crossings more commonly lead to permanent residence. So while a larger number of overstays occur each year compared to illegal border crossings, more illegal immigrants are in the country due to illegal border crossings than overstays at any given moment in time.

The person probably stopped shooting and broke contact. Most active shooters are either stopped by police or stop themselves via suicide; this shooter is apparently trying to get away.

I've never done it personally, but dealerships here will sometimes pay off your existing loan by tacking that amount onto your new loan. It's a terrible deal for the customer but if you're at the point where you need a car right the f now and can't finance any other way it's an option.

It's theoretical at this point but there's no reason life can't exist under an icecap on a rogue version of the Pluto-Charon pair. Or something even bigger, like a Saturn-Titan equivalent ejected from a star system. Fossil heat, radioactive decay, and tidal heating could keep a liquid ocean viable for a couple billion years, long enough for even primitive multicellular life to evolve.

Given the prevalence of ice ball planets and moons with those types of conditions, that is probably the most common habitable environment in existence.

"Self Defense" isn't strictly limited to defending your own personal self. Defending a third person against a violent assault is almost always going to fall under self defense law.

As one might expect, this was not true equally. Women murdering their husbands went down but men murdering their wives did not, or at least not nearly to the same extent. It depends on which studies and methodologies used but the homicide rate for husbands went down 20-30% while the murder rate for wives was between statistical insignificant change to 10%.

Suicide rates did substantially decline for women but not for men.

That's actually a good thing. It means 1) there's an open, unblocked sewer drain there and 2) the sewer system has a good amount of air in the pipes, meaning that the water is going to go somewhere fast once it clears the bottleneck the sewer drain openings represent.

This flooding is likely a 50/50 (ish) mix of extreme precipitation event and litter/debris clogging the storm drains.
