Without having read any of it in a long time, I'm somewhat imagining a Robert Jordan/Brandon Sanderson situation. With The Wheel of Time, started to slow down and get stale, the author became obviously bored with it, and then he died and another more motivated guy took over and the pace picked up but the overall change in style was...jarring. Is that what happened here?

The odds of winning have an amorphous relationship with skill differences. Like, 0 experience with nearly twice the mass is going to lose to basic competence with half the mass. Once the bigger person also hits basic competence, then the odds are as you would expect, even as the smaller person continues to gain more experience.

That's pretty much what I figured. I could see that with some basic competence it would not have even been a contest.

Also is the word maybe asymptotic...

Right, exactly this. I couldn't beat her in a grappling match without just being a total dick, and while I don't train BJJ I'm 99% confident that you don't just go in and try to kill everyone when you're sparring at the dojo.

Whereas she was able to confidently keep me pressured without resorting to anything like that, which is the difference.

are true w/o some kinda handicap

It was a lighthearted bit of grappling on the carpet during a party, I wasn't about to fucking smack her lmao

I could brute force my way out of her holds but I couldn't really get a good purchase on her without the fight getting way out of hand. So any time I tried to attack it wouldn't go anywhere and I'd just waste energy afterwards trying to fix the mess I'd gotten myself into.

Let's be real, if this was a street fight I would have wrecked her. But in the contexts of a BJJ grapple where I didn't want to actually hurt her, I couldn't figure out a single way to best her. And all the time while I was getting really fucking tired trying to do that she was just comfortably chilling on her back in place.

I was at a party this weekend and there was a woman there, maybe 5ft5, athletic but slim build, 120lbs soaking wet. She said she does BJJ and was asking people if they want to wrestle. I was like sure - I'm 6ft1, 200lbs, I lift weights. How hard could it be?

Holy cow, 15 seconds in and I realised I had to ditch the play-fighting thing you do with girls and actually wrestle like I had another guy my size there. She was on her back and Immediately I realise that my arm is going into an arm bar. I know enough about BJJ to know I was in trouble but not enough to know what to do about it. And as I was trying to get out of that suddenly my ankle is twisted up like a pretzel.

The only thing that saved me from tapping out was brute strength - she couldn't lock me out completely and i was able to pry her arms off just enough to save my joints, but the complete lack of skill on my part meant that we were in a stalemate. I had no answers, so all I could do was try and hold her off, completely exhausting myself in the process. I literally just had to sit on her to stop her from snapping my joints off.

So yeah, weight classes are important, but maybe not as much as actually knowing how to fight.

This exact thing happened to me OP, it really sucked. I'll say a few things

  1. A lot of people (well-meaning friends, bitter posters on this board, etc) will give you "why would you do that" or "that's what you get for being a hoe" type advice. Fuck those people, most sincerely. They're not looking out for you, they're just projecting. As if you aren't already thinking now about how to be more precautious, ffs.
  2. I just told my friends and family (well, the family I could tell) what happened and then asked them to block the guy or ignore it. Nothing came of it. That move alone made me feel a lot better because it meant if they did try and blackmail me further, i had already prepared my family for the worst.
  3. I never responded. It seemed to work. They're looking to escalate or wind you up, I just gave them nothing and they clearly moved onto the next target.
Horrible feeling. I guess I eventually just reasoned that hey, I have a penis and people might see it, I'm fortunate enough to be male and nobody actually gives a fuck about my nudes.

The main takeaway was how real these scams can seem. In my case they had clearly hired some cam model to take pics in whatever poses I asked for (at one point i asked for a pic holding up 3 fingers, and i almost instantly got one). So I'm now extra vigilant.

I had a videographer pal help me set up a project board so that it's laid out in a logical way. And he gave me a few quick tips on using in/out for grabbing bits of media and cutting it in.

What I'm finding tricky is two things mainly, 1) being fast at editing music and video together and timing it properly, and 2) post editing effects like zooming in on parts of the video, overlay text, etc. It takes me forever to figure out how to add markers and zoom in, and I'm doing it all from scratch each time.

For point 1 it just seems like trial and error over and over again until the video and audio lines up. For point 2 I wonder if there are pre-created effects that speed up this process. Like at the moment if I wanted to highlight part of the screen, I end up manually marking in an animation where it zooms in and pans over, and then creating an HLS mask and inverting the colours just so that it can basically blank out the rest of the screen.

I'm sure there are faster ways to do this.

They really aren't. You can get gains faster on legs than arms and chest. Back also. Generally the bigger muscles like back and legs, fog can get noticable gains in a short period of time. You don't need to do half a dozen different leg exercises. Squats alone will give you big and strong legs. Leg presses aren't too shabby either.
Lunges are also good to do if you are focusing on a split routine. I also recommend deadlifts for back and legs.

If you haven't done legs at all or in a while, they will be sore as heck in the first week, but will subside after.

That's not what I mean. Legs are psychologically hard to push and most people hate to properly squat. And if you do it properly enjoy having wobbly legs on your way home.

I say this as someone who loved to squat and who's legs are getting so big that regular fit jeans are becoming an issue. I pride myself on my legs, but these are my observations from watching other people train. Its 100% effort on bench and 60% effort on squats.

"I don't use it" isn't a sufficient defense of nobody getting the feature. Their phone may not be charged, may be occupied with another task, or may deliberately be away from the user so they aren't tempted to binge on phone related stuff. Whatever the reason, some people do not have their phone ready 100% of the time, or just don't feel lile turning it on when they're already using a web capable device.

If nobody used it the feature wouldn't be nigh universal beyond the one specific hardware being discussed.

I don't use it because game console web browsers are and have always been total ass, so it's not wild to justify why it's not a bit of software worth developing. I'm not a fan of developing crappy solutions to things when already good solutions are widely accessible.

This particular issue seems to be hitting a nerve with me because I'm constantly in a battle in my professional life with clients who want an everything-app, and constantly trying to explain why that is always a bad idea.

Rather than worrying about this, I'm wondering more pressing stuff like "why didn't we get bluetooth when wireless headphones dominate 76% of the market", and "why does nintendo hate online play so much?"

The fact that every other device includes one should get the point across that it's a convenience issue. Sometimes one might want to search the web for a FAQ or something and not feel like switching hardware to do so. On everything but a Nintendo Switch you can do that.

It's like people completely skip the common sense check when rushing to defend shit they like.

I'm not convinced. I've never used the browser on any console, because they are all ass. Why would I go through a clunky crappy web browser using a controller (or a specially bought keyboard just for this purpose) when I have a phone right next to me that does that better and faster. I don't understand convenience features that are worse.

I work in software development, our clients' directors are always trying to get us to develop a chat system in our CRM so that they can have everything in one system. What they don't get is that we will have to spend a year or more developing something that will be infinitely worse than whatsapp, slack, discord or literally any other app that people already use.

I think there's a lot to criticise the switch about. I've never missed web browser functionality on it.

I think it's pretty unfair to mention all the switch's obvious hardware limitations while also not acknowledging those deliberate design decisions that are its strengths. We got a lightweight hybrid console that could be played handheld or hooked up to a tv. It's very easy to play with friends and the controllers are accessible, it has a very lightweight UI that I actually prefer to other consoles (because its faster to actually play a damn game).

Bluetooth would have been nice. A better battery and screen would be nice. And nintendo doing their usual asshat shit of rereleasing 20 year old games for $70 is fucking ASS,

But once you start saying stuff like "but no web browser" that's when I know you're cooking up nonsense. Who the fuck wants to browse the internet on their switch...

Talking specifically like comic book super heroes vs shonen anime.

To draw some broad strokes, in comic books the details of the fight are rarely if ever explained. There's probably a speech here and there about personal values, but then the action cuts in and that's it. Quite often the protagonist will be on the losing end until some last second stroke of luck and they roll away just in time to make a killing move. You're left thinking they only got through that by the skin of their teeth.

Example: In Castlevania, you're never really told why Sypha is so good at magic. She just sort of develops over the course of the series, and by the end she is a freakin' master. You don't really ever have a sense of what her limits are, but she almost loses a lot of fights because of a lucky hit here or there.

In shonen anime, every attack is described in detail. The enemy describes how their attacks work, the protagonist describes their move that will defeat them. The pace has to slow right down to accommodate this, but in return you get a clear sense of why the protagonist won (i.e. they were legitimately stronger/cleverer/better). It's as if a character is not allowed to win a fight without exposition on why that was the winning move.

Example: In bleach, pretty much any fight is concluded after a character explains why their attack means they are going to win.

Good Afternoon John,

I hope you are keeping well.

I am writing to request a follow up from my email on the 9th of October regarding the document I sent over. To inform our strategy, I require a return on my email regarding points A and B.

Once you've completed this initial input, we can circle back to assess the next steps.

Kindest regards,
Douche A

Heey John! How's things? :)

It's a beautiful day down here at the lakes. Decided to go out for a bike ride and caught some serious sun, feeling the burn today hahaha!

Just wondering if you were able to get back to me about that document btw?
