It's literally a re-used image from almost 3 years ago, so this current story is provably fake.

EDIT: And it's an image that has been used, repeatedly, for similar "totally real" stories. Who knows if the first time the image was posted, three years ago, was actually real or not. But ever since then, every single story using the same image is clearly and blatantly fake.

I know that feeling. A lot of my classmates and younger cousins (Im an only child) are now married and some have kids. I feel life hasnt progressed much for me.

I, personally, spent a lot of time with a guy who, frankly, took way too long to admit that he didn't want to have a family. And while he eventually did, and it wasn't really "too late," it made me have some introspection on myself, too, and... Well, let's just say I'm exploring some things, now, but with a new worldview.

I respect her for it. She knows she doesn't need to do OF to make money. She gets enough social media attention otherwise, and gets money from sponsors for that. Good for her.

I started feeling "old" at 30. A lot of my friends had gotten married and started families, it was when I settled more into a career and worried more about work and less about my social life, and so on.

Yeah, 30 isn't literally "old," but it's an age where you're basically expected to settle into the "old person" lifestyle.

Funniest part about this is it happened when the economy collapsed in 07. They made a big speech at Christmas about how the company was doing strong and noone was losing their job. Then a month later laid off 5/6 of the company. Lol

That's similar to how I was laid off, though I was given a 2 week "notice," basically.

Last fall, we were told the company was going strong. Then, in December, we were told there may be cuts, but they'd be "small" cuts, mostly part time/new employees.

Then, lo and behold, in January, I was laid off. And I pretty much immediately knew it was because I was, at the time, the highest paid developer on staff. That said, like I said, they gave me what was basically a two week notice, so it was whatever. A betrayal, but not a total one.

The only time Ive been laid off they told me first thing when I came in. And they expected me to actually fucking do my job. Like you could have said that at the end of the day and you wouldn't have gotten a day of wasted labor.

Now this is dumb, yeah. There's a reason layoffs usually happen end of day, Friday.

And, to be clear, I have personal experience with this. At my last job, they got a new development lead that I, to put it simply, didn't see eye to eye with. I still did my work well and on time, but they just flat out didn't like me and wanted to replace me with a friend of theirs. Thus, when the opportunity for cuts came, I was one of the first ones they selected for layoffs, and they defended it with "We're paying them too much as it is."

However, I used the company as a reference, even knowing potential new employers may end up speaking with the person in question. And, since the person in question was asked basic questions ("Did you work with X," "Were they laid off for poor work," etc.) they couldn't really lie, so they served as a useful reference, regardless.

Go out gracefully.

Even somebody that laid you off, a coworker you didn't necessarily get along with, etc., can be a useful reference.

EDIT: This is because, when businesses call for a reference, they typically do so in a way where they go "Did you work with X," and even somebody that disliked you isn't going to think quick enough to lie, or even want to, for something so simple.

Yeah, to be clear, I'm not doubting somebody COULD have a notepad. I'm just doubting that literally ALL of the coincidences (has notepad, scooped out food with a spoon, purposely wrote large enough for a camera to make it legible, etc.) came true all at once. And the fact this image is almost 3 years old adds to that.

The probability that a delivery driver just happened to have lined paper, AND thought "I should scoop all of the food out, but in a very hasty and messy manner, which makes it very obvious I scooped the food out," AND thought "I should write in large, legible writing, so a camera can pick it up" seems incredibly, incredibly suspect.

Seems much more likely that somebody against tipping culture ate their food, then decided "I should fake something for my message," and was too dumb to realize how fake it'd actually look.

EDIT: Actually, to be fair, I shouldn't say they were dumb. It's possible they just thought the internet was dumb enough to run with whatever they said, and not even remotely scrutinize it. And, honestly, they were right.

The only way I see this being real is if it was ordered through a delivery service, the person didn't tip the driver in the app/website, and the driver scraped out all the food and left the bag at the door. Which is...plausible but unlikely.

Even then, a delivery driver just happening to have lined paper available seems suspect. That's the kind of thing you may have in a notebook lying around your house, not on you out and about.

Yeah, sometimes even though you may sleep 8 literal hours, that doesn't necessarily mean you got a GOOD sleep. If you tossed and turned, for example, that could be an issue. Or, it could be something more, like sleep apnea/lack of oxygen.

I simply posted because I didn't want you to think "Wow, all I need to do is sleep extra long for one day, and it fixes it!" It's the "Getting enough sleep multiple days in a row" that fixes it, the 14 hour day was a bit of a coincidence.

Sleeping extra long on certain days doesn't actually cause recovery from sleep debt. What is more likely is that, in your attempts to catch up on sleep, you actually slept for 8-10 hours several days in a row, consistently, and that's what fixed it. Simply sleeping for like, 14 hours in one day doesn't actually solve the issue, itself.

The best way to recover from sleep debt/deprivation is to consistently get enough sleep several days in a row. You can't recover it in a single day, no matter how long you sleep.

Yeah, this seems pretty fair. The guy said "stop" multiple times and tried to walk away, and the Youtuber kept getting in his face. At that point, the guy reasonably had no idea what the Youtuber was going to do to him, since there was no indication that he was just some dumb Youtuber.

This seems no different than those dumb Kick streamers who got punched.

It should be very simple to just... Not harass people.

This is a hell of a take.

If I'm waking up in the middle of the night parched, it's probably because I'm hot/I've been sweating, and so that cold water high is amazing. Room temperature water in that scenario feels like I'd just rather not have water at all.

2FA is basically a necessary evil. Sure, I hate having to check my phone to log in to something, every now and then, but when I do the math on "worth vs. annoyance," the worth always wins.

And they also have Halloween stuff out. They just have both, because while Halloween is the current upcoming holiday, there's a good chance people may go "Ooh, Christmas trees on sale!" and buy one in preparation for the next holiday.

It's a "Think one step ahead" approach, that retail takes.

EDIT: And, to be fair, it's not like Costco is literally decorated for Christmas. They just currently have a Christmas tree/decoration section. A majority of stores are, indeed, only decorated for Halloween, right now.

EDIT EDIT: That said, Costco is a poor example in general, since Costco doesn't decorate like other stores do. They just put shit out for you to buy.

Yes, but your average user is not that dumb, is my point. That's why it's so useful. Even your average "dumb" user is going to realize "Wait, I'm not trying to use Netflix right now."

Are there edge cases? Absolutely. But there are edge cases for literally everything, and it shouldn't be used as a knock against 2FA.

We shouldn't use the 2/1000 that it doesn't work for to downplay its usefulness, basically.

I'm not a tech support guy but I've built and fixed and PC for a long time, and if it's one thing I've learned to be the absolute truth in this world it's that people never read shit fully.

To be completely blunt, this isn't an issue with 2FA. It's an issue with your friend being an absolute dumbass beyond all reason.

We shouldn't fault 2FA when somebody goes above and beyond all reason.

Literally nothing can be 100% idiot proof, unfortunately.

The biggest cause of getting hacked is still human error. I've known more people get hacked from literally giving their password away (or in a couple cases people literally beating login info out of them) than all the techno wizardry you see on TV. Well, for your average Joe at least. 2FA can't fix that, but it's not a bad safety net.

2FA actually can fix that, to an extent. Even if you give your password away, the whole point of 2FA is that it notifies you when somebody is trying to log in from any location but your own, and even the dumbest person should realize "Hey, I'm not currently logging in to X..."

People against 2FA basically seem like people who make all of their passwords "Password1," to me.

Like, yeah, I get it can be potentially annoying for a few seconds, but... C'mon.

Yeah, definitely disagree. 2FA is pretty great. Sometimes it's annoying for like, 2 seconds, but I appreciate it, overall.

As far as stores are concerned, "Thanksgiving stuff" isn't really a thing. You don't decorate for Thanksgiving, you just buy stuff like food. Thus, it makes sense to go Halloween -> Christmas, when it comes to displays.

This is partially correct.

In practice, there is literally nothing mandating any kind of support for both iPad and iPhone. In most cases, you develop an app for iPhone, then tap a checkbox for how you want it to handle iPad. Your choices are, basically:

A. Keep the resolution as the same on iPhone, which causes the app to load in a "letterbox" style format, and gives the user the option to zoom, or
B. Actually fill the iPad resolution, but then you actually have to manually develop with it in mind (increase text sizes where applicable, rearrange how things fill screen real estate, etc. and so on.)

So, to that effect, yes, Apple probably would provide a similar option for Swift, which would make it easier to have your app just... Work on a foldable phone. That's a perk of Apple, tough, which typically does not exist on Android. On Android, such as for the Z Flip, you HAVE to develop with it in mind. And while your huge mainstream apps have the money to throw that way, smaller apps are just going to give you a half-assed solution, if they give one at all, as we see today.

EDIT: That said, I got away from my main point. My own developer bias aside, foldable phones at the $2,000 price point already exist, so this isn't some Apple thing.

I'm typing this now on my Z Fold 5.

Love it, best phone I've ever had (previously had a Z Flip 3). The crease is a non issue as you can never see it and can barely feel it, the screen will never "shatter" after folding as it's been tested for 200k folds (folding it 100 times per day will take 5 years to hit 200k, and a youtuber actually did 400k before it broke), and all apps I've run since launch support both folded and unfolded sizes.

Can't wait until Apple releases one with the same features as the original Z Fold and everyone will say how amazing it is.

How much is Samsung paying you? Is it good work?

I'm not at the point where I'm ready to trust smartphones with foldable screens. I don't know how they would get around having a crease.

Even beyond the potential for crease, virtually no apps whatsoever are designed with foldable phones in mind, since, for a foldable phone, they typically have to fit two different screen sizes for the same device, which is an additional step that, previously, never had to be taken, in development. Thus, most apps just kinda... Ignore it, and you either get apps that just stretch to fit the unfolded size (and ignore the folded size completely,) or just don't even actually support folded phones at all.

It's a dumb technology that is way too young to be pushed so heavily.

Apple isn't even the first to make foldable phones, let alone the first to charge $2000 for them.

Foldable phones are stupid and pretty much nobody wants to develop for them because they're stupid, so all you'll be getting out of them for a long while are apps stretching (usually poorly) to fill the screen real estate.

Though more likely apps will just continue to be made without foldable phones in mind, and so they won't truly be supported for a long while.
