80% of the ones you hear about never even make it to human trials because they were able to find out they were crap once push came to shove and more evidence was required to get the approval of/funding for human trials.

Sometimes the result of overly enthusiastic scientists but more often it was just a company/research group looking for media hype to garner the attention of investors. Tabloids love to cover these untested miracle drugs to prey on people desperate for good news to make a quick ad revenue click buck.

Of the 20% that do, we often don't know exactly why they didn't work. The human body is a mystery with a million factors we still don't know how they interact. Usually some combination of the cancer cells having an easier time mutating an immunity to the treatment in humans and the reason of the cancer forming in the first place never actually being addressed by the drug.

It wasn't nothing. They did get a new, better drug out of it. They just didn't get a cure.

https://www.npr.org/2022/10/01/1126397565/the-ice-bucket-challenge-wasnt-just-for-social-media-it-helped-fund-a-new-als-dr
So I googled the drug because the article suspiciously didn't list what the drug achieved. Europe is opposing its approval for some reason and has skeptics of whether it works. And best case it extends the lives of some patients by a few months.

Man if that's not nothing, it's the next worst thing.

Whatever happened to the disease that was supposed to be cured thanks to the money from the ice bucket challenge?

Last I heard the extra funding allowed researchers to try higher risk methods for more conclusive results (I even made a topic on CE about it).
ALS, a neurological disease. And nothing.

In like the last 50 years of intense research we don't have anything to show for it. Forget a cure, we don't even have a single drug to treat or slow most neurological diseases. We don't even know exactly what some of these diseases actually are. It's one of those fields that makes you really appreciate what little we have to attempt treating cancer.

There have been thousands of drugs? I'm almost 100% positive that is entirely untrue. Unless you mean the fact that you could pour bleach into a petri dish and eliminate cancer cells immediately or something, which, of course you could. This drug does something which has NEVER been done before, namely eliminating said cells and leaving alone healthy cells. It's groundbreaking. There has never been a drug that has been able to do this.

And there are only around 200 cancer types.

But feel free to list the thousands of drugs created from 'higher ranked research centers'.
A quick google will show endless times it's been done. It almost never translates to success in living humans.

https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/news/newsroom/news-releases/johns-hopkins-researchers-design-prodrug-that- targets-cancer-cells-big-appetite-for-glutamine-leaving-healthy-cells-unharmed
The basis of entire categories of treatments like prodrugs and selective molecule/immune/gene drugs is that they only affect cancer cells.
For "higher ranked" context Hopkins is a top 10 oncology research center. City of Hope is 80ish.

https://interestingengineering.com/health/new-molecule-kills-deadliest-cancer
And this also links to other drugs that eliminate a broad spectrum of hard to treat cancers cells while leaving healthy ones unscathed.

I've doomscrolled through 20 years of these articles leading to nothing.

https://www.cnn.com/2017/04/26/health/hope-vs-hype-cancer-treatment-partner/index.html
CNN had a piece on how the hype of early preclinical results is crushing the general public with false hope.

Again, I don't like being the wet blanket, but it's the truth and I'm ready to see real results not preclinical blogs.

Your source is a blog post marketing the story behind an untested drug they came up with. They hope it's still able to inhibit some growth in clinical settings when combining it with today's chemo and hope that the cells won't be able to immediately mutate around it.

There have been thousands of drugs from higher ranked research centers that eliminate cancer cells through novel approaches in random lab dishes/animals for decades. 1, 30, 70, 100,000 cancer types, it's all been done and not impressive until it cures a living human, which why this achievement is a tabloid exclusive.

Because in spite of that their devices are industry leading in longevity so it's weird to single them out for it.

Apple supporting their devices for so long is what eventually forced Google/Samsung to support devices longer than 1-2 years. And they still don't support their devices as long as Apple does.

Not since the battery preservation thing they stopped doing forever ago.

If they're doing planned obsolescence they're doing a crap job at it since they're the only tech that's still perfectly usable a decade+ later. No one is still walking around with an HTC M8.

Republicans are cartoon villains encouraged by corporate interests to say/do the most nakedly damning things to test the limits of what we'll accept.

Democrats are empty civility corporate bots with most elected officials having a "morph into Sinema in case of D majority" button. They're funded to sedate movements for left wing policy and maintain current paradigms giving an environment of certainty for companies.

One is clearly better than the other but both are under complete control of capital and definitionally corrupt.

Monied interest enjoys the Overton window being "complete insanity vs not that" as opposed to "developed country healthcare reform."
