It's not as if these entities are just sitting on scrooge mcduck money here. Yes they're worth this much, but they're definitely not just sitting on 1 trillion or some shit. It's all invested into something.

Looking it up, Disney has 10b cash on hand, and Apple has 50b cash on hand. They'd need to take out a sizeable loan just to purchase Disney.

I wouldn't say he's an amazing person or an American hero or anything like that, but he's considerably less bad than almost any other billionaire.

What did they do to ruin education? Genuinely curious as this is something I've read about.

The only contribution I know of their foundation making is a personal one: some of their money helped start an early college program in our county that my sister went to (and have a niece going currently) that allowed my sister to graduate highschool with a two year degree. Saved her a ton of money as she went straight to working on her bachelor's.

I'm guessing they are referring to Bill Gates' influence on education reform. Because he donates large amounts of money to public education he gets to say a lot about how to do education reform. One of his ideas was breaking down larger failing schools into smaller schools on the theory that students would get more resources this way. It was a failure. And some of his other education reform ideas have been failures too. And these failures have done decades of harm to children.

The larger concern here is that even if these wealthy people have a genuine good hearted interest to help people, they are not immune to faults like letting your own success lead you to believe you are competent everywhere including in fields like education and public policy. Plans with good intentions can do damage if executed poorly and we shouldn't let billionaires decide the trajectory of our public policy.

depends really. musk had to sell tesla shares and take on debt via tesla to finance the twitter deal. he dumped some debt on twitter as well, but any attempt at generating tens of billions would have repercussions on his companies.

He both had to get loans and liquidate some of his stock in order to pay for Twitter. When it comes to things that costs billions of dollars, there's only so much one is willing to loan to a single man.

elon musk is the world's richest person, but almost all of his wealth is theoretical and he can't access 200 billion + in any way to spend that much. if he tried to liquidate considerably less than 100 billion worth of tesla stock the stock would crash and the company would be in trouble. someone that runs a drug cartel is basically all liquid and can access more currency than elon musk could and those types certainly have connections to way more hitmen or criminal gangs.

musk could do tons of good with his wealth if he wasn't a shitbag, but he couldn't actually liquidate anything beyond a small percentage.

I don't think I want to buy a Tesla anymore. He's a POS. If Twitter didn't exist, and he didn't buy it, he would be more tolerable.
