Is this looking for help with Noelle or Furina?

I think you just do each of them the way you would normally. Furina is primarily HP. Noelle is primarily DEF, with ER. You want some kind of geo battery for Noelle, but in the absence of Gorou, I just used Albedo. Consider Favonius weapons if the energy still isn't enough. On-field Noelle's healing should be enough on its own.

I still need to play Hellblade, though. I keep hearing too many good things about it.

All respectable choices, although I like metroidvanias and I didn't find Blasphemous very appealing. Maybe because I don't play Soulsborne games, but everything is slow, deliberate, and punishing. There was also a decided lack of clarity on how to play the game (item descriptions? hello?) and for all the time I played I think I got one actual upgrade which turned some random red drippy things into blood platforms. I ranked my indie metroidvanias a few months back, and Blasphemous wasn't even #20 on that. =p

I'm really not sure how I feel about Furina. This is also a really soft ranking, and I could wake up tomorrow and swap Navia with Arl. (The first and last picks are confident, though.)

Love Firewatch. Particularly, the ending being brave enough to not just deliver a happy sappy conclusion. I know a lot of people hated this, but the whole message of Firewatch is dependent on it.

So speaking of games I didn't realize what they were going in, I had no idea on A Plague Tale, either. It just seemed to get pushed routinely on Steam and I decided to take a flyer on it. This was a game I could have and maybe should have known what it was before buying, and very nearly returned before the two hour mark when it revealed a heavy reliance on stealth, mixed with horror elements. Not to undermine my OW argument above, but those are two genres I wouldn't expect to like, particularly the horror, but Plague Tale doesn't fully commit to either. Rather, it exists in this in-between space where there are some intense moments, but I'm not fully creeped out. It puts in more than the token stealth section many games have, so the experience is more refined, but it backs off it periodically so you don't have to endure 20 straight hours of it.

Agree with basically everything in the write-up. Amicia's character is great, the art and production are amazing, I was always surprised how the portions of gameplay where we were in a town or other civilized area didn't feel contrived for the sake of level design. There are a few choices Innocence makes that Requiem is better-off for not making, and there are a few minor nitpicks I could make but won't because spoilers, but overall a game that surpassed expectations significantly.

You tried it and didn't like it. Big deal, you lost like an hour. But there's a very good chance you could've liked it since it's a great game.

It's not like b8 made you play the entirety of Tales of Symphonia for 53 hours, stringing you along saying "I swear it gets better in the next chapter" over and over. Never gonna get over that one.

More than an hour. Not the 53 you spent on ToS, but just because you wasted 53 hours on a game you didn't like doesn't invalidate people who spent 52 on something else. We have one thing in common -- we played it longer than we should have, waiting for it to get good, and it never happened. So you can likely understand my bitterness as a result.

And not trying a Myst-like if they don't like Myst...is exactly my point. If you don't like sports games, are you going to play the latest Madden or FIFA? The difference is that if someone offers me Madden or FIFA, I know it's a sports game.

It's Myst x Majora's Mask. But saying it's like Majora's Mask could reasonably be construed as spoiling. Saying it's like Myst -- minimalist controls, obtuse puzzles, and a distinct lack of hand-holding -- is not unfair when I dislike them both for the same reasons. Except I also hate the Outer Wilds for its movement and for needing to magically be at the right place at the right time or you learn nothing.

It took me at least six deaths before I realized there was actually a time limit. But I don't think saying there's a time loop really spoils that because it just seemed like I was going through Groundhog Day.

To be fair it's because the first loop, which is like an hour, is so damn good and impactful if you don't know the twist. If you just played that, and then quit the game because you don't like exploration deduction games, you would still have a great experience

I guess I was just always destined to not like this game, then, because I didn't even find the beginning engaging, either.

Oh, there are definitely times when I've been on the other end of not wanting to be spoiled. The folks in the Genshin channel probably know me as the person who very pointedly doesn't want to hear anything about leaks. But in the case of Outer Wilds, the "can't spoil it" bit was extreme. I wouldn't angrily rant against the game if I had never played it, and if I had known what it was going in...I wouldn't have played it!

The game that annoyed me the most on the "can't tell you" front was Outer Wilds, which isn't even a meta-twist game, but holy crap if you wouldn't see literally every reference to Outer Wilds for a while go "just trust me bro, it's so amazeballs good but I can't tell you why." They refused to even explain the gameplay, the genre, or anything else.

At least now I think people generally know it's a time loop game. But I ultimately bought the game just to see why SO many people were giving us the "trust me bro" routine...and -- big surprise! -- I didn't like it because it was a type of game I don't enjoy. I didn't like Myst in 1993, and I haven't liked any game that resembles it ever since.

Fun fact: I've recently been talking with a friend who made fun of me for quitting Nioh 2 for it being too hard (don't come at me, it is, I've played basically every Soulslike, but fuck that game in particular). He's recently been going through Kena: Bridge of Spirits and OH HO HO HO LOOK WHO'S STRUGGLING NOW. Kena is deceptive, because what looks like a normal indie adventure with silly little animal sidekicks is actually one of the most brutally and uncompromisingly difficult action adventures this side of Sekiro. Legitimately, you'll probably watch the trailer thinking "oh that doesn't look too bad" because I did the exact same thing, and then three hours into fighting the fucking Corrupt Woodsmith you'll just be sitting there wondering, "Is it me? Am I bad at video games now?" I mean why is the "collect silly hats for your teenie little blog friends" game this hard? Kena is a visual wonder, with a 3D world that looks much better than most games with 10x its budget manage to.

When Asterigos came out, my reaction was "it's Kena with a white girl as the lead." But I've played Asterigos and I haven't played Kena, so now I'm wondering how true that is, given that it shows up on my wishlist intermittently whenever there's a sale.

Oooh yeah, Prey's a good one. Don't really think of it as survival horror but it probably counts.

I would have thought of Prey long before I thought of Alien-anything. Those games are just a blip on my radar whenever I hear about them, and immediately dismissed as "licensed crap." (They're not a genre I'd ever play, so I have no reason to try to disprove that notion.)

Welp, I got wrecked here. Forgot case 4 of AA3. Knew nothing about F/SN. Knew nothing about P3 (and google pointed me at P5.) And was apparently the only person who didn't know that was Earthbound. I also lost all the toss-ups, after assuming TFTB would be the correct choice.

Guess I should give up hope for snatching one of these after a rout that bad.

When I try to think of the funniest games I've played, Jazzpunk pretty much always comes to mind. I have no idea how to actually describe this game. It's vaguely about an undercover 1950s spy that feels kind of like a James Bond/Hitman mashup, but that barely matters. This is quite possibly the most absurd game I've played. None of it makes any sense, but it's hilarious and worth experincing for yourself.

I watched this trailer and I have no idea wtf just happened.

After 3 weeks, I have not quite cleared the patch's content. I could with one strong push, but I'm in no hurry. Mostly underwater stuff left to explore.

I don't feel very strongly in these votes, but this is what I landed on. Sorry, Shiina-san.

The OG monolith from like 2 years ago that was dreadful taught me how to manage those. None of them have been remotely challenging since that one, probably because of that trial by fire. (And the awareness that anemo groupers make them much more manageable.) But also, mostly what HDT said -- not all of them go for the monolith and the ones that do can be drawn off with the right attacks, so often it's just a matter of getting the enemies' attention. The only caution I'd give is that once an enemy's AI starts on an attack (which often begins before the literal animation,) they're committed to it, and some enemies have to be prioritized as a result. Haven't done the new one yet, so I dunno which those are, but it's usually ranged attackers that are the pain because they hit with elemental attacks that do repeated damage and are harder to prevent.

My answer to this topic by the way is just the game Crosscode in general - the entire second half of the game is just laden with stuff that made me look up Youtube videos because it was too complicated for me to figure out.

I don't think Crosscode qualifies as a "non-puzzle game."
