People who are upset at just probation are missing the forest for the trees. You don't hit the low level drug traffickers when the kingpin is still available. Whenever that nepo baby article came out, Hasan pointed out that he benefited from nepotism. Personally, I think "nepo baby" is a little stronger than how I use that in my personal usage, like I think Cenk offering him a pittance paying job doing their social media content is in a far different camp than like...Will Smith getting people to put his children in starring roles in his movies because he's Will Smith. I.e. I think most of Hasan's fanbase does not come from former TYT fans.

I think most people are calling it Twitter because it's been Twitter for like 16 years and it's been X for half a year. In addition Twitter is just a much more "unique" name and x is a letter and people will generally lean towards using unambiguous names when they can.

Like yeah if people liked Musk more would they maybe make more of an effort to use the new name? Sure idk. I don't think hatred of him is the primary motivation though.

Feeld. Which I'll say to address some of the "what % of girls out there are actually asking" or w/e, I've personally found that Feeld has leaned a little more towards the "We've had a nice chat, do you want to meet up tonight but also I want to see what I'm getting ;) " side of things than traditional apps like Tinder/Bumble.

I try to keep the two sides silo'd though. I use a different set of pictures for my more "hookup" sites/apps/whatever with a different name and less information to connect to me, whereas I'm more willing to share information about myself on apps where I'm actually looking to go on real dates with people and stuff. The only thing that really connects to me is my phone number which up until now I didn't feel too concerned about giving that out before meeting up because a phone call when you get somewhere doesn't feel unreasonable. Really I just had the wrong threat model in mind, I was prepared for like...someone shows up and tries to rob me type scenarios or someone arranges a meet up and then is like "oh silly me I don't have money for gas could you send me some".

I received an email saying they hacked into my webcam and recorded me fapping. Funny thing is I don't own a webcam.

This used to be a common thing where they would just send emails to people and said "I know your password is [password leaked in some database breach]" but at some point they got lazy and started just being like yeah trust me I have the pics.

Thanks to the people who are being supportive. I obviously understand that there were stupid actions on my part and generally I honestly don't care that much about if a person I know sees a nude pic of me or something, but there was something so aggressive about the messages and the blackmail that it was really shocking/violating feeling. There have been some things going on in my life that opened me up to be more susceptible and "trusting" over the weekend. So far they haven't seemed to have done anything.

That's one reason I got tired of dating apps. It takes a lot of time constantly doing detective work to determine whether the other person is genuine. There are so many bots and scammers.

It's kind of exhausting but up until now they've all been "quick" and so I'll roll my eyes and waste five minutes to get to the obvious pitch. Now I feel like even that is insufficient.

With some dating apps I definitely wouldn't, but this was one where that sort of thing was less unusual of a request.

Basically messaging with someone on a dating app, looking out for the normal red flags like the scripted bot conversations, people who don't seem to know what location they're allegedly in, people who are angling for either paid sex work of trying to get payment from me.

Conversation eventually moves to trading some salacious pics. I took one and then they asked for a face pic and I didn't think anything of it because I've gotten that from real people enough who want to make sure I actually match my profile and stuff. Fifteen minutes later they've used my phone number to find my Facebook account (I'm not exactly sure how this worked because they didn't have my real name, but I'm assuming that you're able to used the number tied to the account to find the associated profile even if my phone number isn't displayed?) and threaten to send our conversation and nudes to all of the people on my friends list.

They asked for $500 and I bluffed them that I had to talk to someone to get the money and used that time to call my friend to talk through what to do. I made more of my Facebook settings private (Most of my posts and things aren't visible but I guess friends list was for some reason) and filled out the form at https://stopncii.org/ in order to get the hashes of those images blocked. I also told my brother to be on the lookout to report accounts that tried to share things with him as I thought he would be more "aware" than most of my family and friends. Blocked the number, reported the associated accounts, and am filling out an FBI tip line/report thing for it.

Nothing has happened and tbh I don't think anything will, but I do feel violated and it kind of sucks.

I don't really get this...I've been a cashier before. That's how I know that many cashiers are worse than me at it. I feel like enough people on CE have had experience working such jobs and know that there are plenty of bad cashiers.

Thats why I don't feel bad for the corporations when people start adding items into bin but not scanning them, i.e scan one item but put two items in their bin, they feel like they're performing work so they should be compensated for it so why not add on a couple of free goodies here and there

I don't really care for the corporations' sake, but that's just a dumb mentality to excuse shoplifting. Reckless driving can be upgraded to vehicular homicide if the person you kill later dies in the hospital. If a person knowingly spread a lie that devastating and it results in the death of the accused I don't see how it's any different.

Because we still have a level of agency regarding suicide, whereas in the reckless driving case you're just being charge with what you would have been charged with at the scene if the death had happened. It's a different situation, for example, if the hospital through malpractice kills/maims the victim of a reckless driving event who would have otherwise been fine.

Notably all of the examples given so far of who would benefit from this are just celebrities. I'm not really positive there's a huge contingent of great presidential stock who are being held back by the rule.

Start throwing the proverbial book at these scumbags and I guarantee you the sheer amount of false accusations by people looking for petty revenge against those they felt wronged them in some way will drop significantly as they will be less likely to bring false testimony before the police and the courts if there was a severe enough punishment for getting caught in the act doing it.

I don't think you're going to get much traction on that when the accusation is just a TikTok live video. Not saying whether I think that's the right standard or not but someone pressing charges / filing a lawsuit carries much heftier possible punishments for lying.

Presumably if I'm a fan of ASOIAF it's because I think George R.R. I think it mainly just came from e.g. Catholic Church scandals, because regular homosexuality was ostracized outside of major cities, so if you're from a rural town who are the homosexuals you hear about? Well, in those days it was mostly people molesting children.

Which is obviously a dumb conclusion to draw (as it has more to do with people in power taking advantage of children who are available to them) but that's the source.

Saying "look at how well he is doing" as an indicator of intelligence suggests that the smartest people in society are the ones tending to make the most money but that's rarely the case at all. Case in point, every product sold by a Musk company has more intellectual investment from people who make less than he does.

It kind of just depends on how popular the team is. It was cheaper for my brother to fly to Baltimore and watch the Vikings play the Ravens for me than it was to try to get reasonable seats at US Bank Stadium for the Vikings. Ravens tickets aren't particularly cheap either.

But I got to see the 49ers play the Commanders a few years ago for like... $50 after fees because even though the 49ers are popular, the Commanders absolutely were not.

It's mostly annoying in suburban/urban areas where people treat every left lane like it's for immediate passing and get mad that you're actually turning left at the next light.

I speak English. I also speak Russian which is gendered and a declensional language and learned German which is gendered but not nearly as declined.

The argument that "Russian has gendered language you can't just call some [gender neutral term]" is no different than English going from e.g. fireman/firewoman -> firefighter. Grammatical gender doesn't even actually have much to do with sociological gender anyway. The Russian word for "car" is feminine and tricycle is masculine. That doesn't mean that people think it's manlier to own a tricycle there. But these two notions of gender *do* tend to intersect when it comes to referring to people.

"This is the way the language is" is just lazy as language changes all the time to incorporate loanwords, new constructions of slang, etc. It's just people being confronted with the gender binary inherent in the systems of their lives and saying "I would *never* want to be called anything besides Latino because I'm male" is no different than the people who are like "Why would I need to have my pronouns, I'm not trans".

The end result of this isn't "Gaetz becomes speaker" and it's unlikely that anyone his group puts forth will have enough the support of the rest of the GOP. So they have to pick someone who can pick up a few Dem votes, which may or may not stave off shutdown.

1. I just don't think that most rapists do so thinking that they're going to get caught and most aren't in situations where they inherently are going to be caught. I feel like you're picturing that most of these are hostage situations where the police have the rapist surrounded mid-act.
2. I think you're just vastly underestimating how many rapes don't end in any sort of conviction because there "isn't enough evidence" for it to be rigorously pursued by a DA. Your average missing person draws a lot more immediate attention.

Just as another example, people commit murder in states where the death penalty is on the table for murder. Most of those people do not after committing the murder go on a killing spree of all of the witnesses under the justification that "I'm already getting the death penalty so I might as well".

I mean just a few reasons:

1. Not every rapist is capable of murder. I'm not really here to psychoanalyze the reasons, but for one reason or another, their ****ed up morals will allow one but not the other.
2. Circumstantially, you might feel like for one reason or another you are unlikely to be found guilty of rape (lack of evidence, some sort of power over the victim, etc.) whereas murdering someone might draw additional scrutiny.
3. Most criminals are not rational actors and thus aren't trying to min-max their crimes.

Unrelated to the problems with this law, how does this incentivize murder? It's not as if people who are guilty of other capital crimes are like "oh well, I'm getting the death penalty so I might as well get my value".

I know that's weirdly contentious, but there are movies that I liked as a kid and looking back on them I'm like "okay they kind of sucked, but I was able to look past some of that because it's catered to children" but Hook doesn't even manage to be that.
