Trump is set to spend a significant portion of the next 12 months defending himself court for multiple different civil and criminal trials. There are two or three civil lawsuits, including the one from the state of New York set to start next week. And then 4 criminal trials so far. Jack Smith is still investigating things and the state of Arizona has decided to go after their fake electors. Not sure if those will bring more indictments against Trump, but I wouldnt be surprised if they do.

We really need an article explaining what exactly changed when net neutrality was killed. No one seemed to notice anything.

The reason net neutrality laws went into effect in the first place is because multiple ISPs were throttling traffic to certain things. Most noticeably, multiple ISPs were throttling Netflix traffic. Netflix paid them to stop throttling traffic and then the average Netflix speeds over those ISPs increased dramatically. Netflix then passed the cost of those payments onto their customers by raising subscription fees. By now, Netflix has made that money back multiple times over, but weve never seen a decrease in subscription fees.

Without Net Neutrality laws in place, were just trusting that ISPs wont do that again. If they dont, great, but I wouldnt be shocked if some high bandwidth application comes along and some ISPs decide to throttle it. Especially ISPs who are the only choice in their given service area for high speed internet.

Whether or not you noticed it depends entirely on whether your ISP decided to throttle things, and more specifically, things that you use. Are we talking millions, tens of millions, hundreds of millions? I know it's not billions, since he's not valued that high, but is this a drop in the bucket? I mean he swindled like 30 or 40 million into his pockets from staying at his own resorts continuously.

I think its going to be hundreds of millions at the very least when you consider the fact that hes not going to be able to make money from any business in the state of New York any more, especially if he gets that permanent ban that the state wants.

DETROIT (AP) Hyundai and Kia are recalling nearly 3.4 million vehicles in the U.S. and telling owners to park them outside due to the risk of engine compartment fires.

The recalls cover multiple car and SUV models from the 2010 through 2019 model years including Hyundais Santa Fe SUV and Kias Sorrento SUV.

Documents posted Wednesday by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration say the anti-lock brake control module can leak fluid and cause an electrical short, which can touch off a fire while the vehicles are parked or being driven.

I need to check and see if my mom's Hyundai is affected by this. I don't think it is, but gonna check to make sure.

Any given house that sells for three or four million, is only "worth" a few hundred thousand on property tax rolls. Having to publicly admit this goes on would cause an instant housing crash, and thus we can't have that because reason.

A few hundred thousand vs 3 to 4 million is quite different than ~18 - 25 million vs ~1.5 billion, isn't it?

Five or six years back, I interviewed an applicant for a security guard position at my hospital. Former cop, had short stints as a security guard elsewhere, on paper seemed like a perfectly acceptable applicant.

Within fifteen seconds of his butt sitting down in my office, he voluntarily outed himself as an absolutely hardcore Trumper, and kept bringing it up at basically every opportunity for the next few minutes when, believe me, there is nothing remotely political about the position.

Then he starts talking about how bad vaccines are (this was pre-covid) and asking if this place performed abortions as well, with him being visibly heated with each passing moment as he kept talking himself into a crazy corner. He then erupted into shouting when I told him we were probably not going to offer him a position, at which point an actual security guard stepped in to give the guy a glare which settled him down as the good guard had a foot and about a hundred pounds of muscle on him.

As he was escorted out, he faked that he was hit, threatened to sue, and in the same instant took a swing at a second, shorter security guard that had also stepped in to assist. Our two security guards proceeded to take him to the ground and held him there until police arrested him.

He was charged and a restraining order was placed on him for everybody and everything associated with the hospital. Before it could go to trial, he committed a pretty bad assault on a neighbor of his and he is in jail for a couple more years as of last check.

New York AG Letitia James filed a civil suit, but she referred evidence of criminal fraud to federal prosecutors and the IRS. The relief New York is currently asking for:
  • $250,000,000 fine
  • Permanently bar Donald Trump, Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump, Alan Weisselberg, and (someone else I can't remember the name of) from being a director or officer of any business in the state
  • 5-year ban for the Trump Organization from doing real-estate business in the state

The judge, however, has actually just canceled the business licenses for those individuals, so they'll likely have to dissolve the Trump Organization entirely.

So what? Interviewers really like asking about that stuff. Ask yourself this, those hard tech questions in that interview, you would have used that stuff all the time if you were hired there?

I'm a network engineer now. Those are some of the most basic tech questions for a network operations center job. Yes, I would have used that stuff all the time if I was hired there.

Question 1, regarding the OSI model:
  • The OSI model is a framework that defines the basic framework of how networking functions. The TCP/IP model is what is technically used today, but the OSI model is still commonly referenced. I refer to the OSI model over the TCP/IP model myself because it's more specific.

Question 2, regarding the subnet mask:
  • A subnet mask of 255.255.255.252 is the most commonly used subnet mask in networking. You get two usable IP addresses, and it's most often used for links between two layer 3 devices. I thought the answer was 1 because I learned subnetting improperly at my ISP tech support job. The way I learned it was that with that subnet mask, the ISP uses 1 IP, and the customer gets 1 usable IP. So I thought only one of them was considered usable, which is completely wrong.

I was about 3.5 years into doing tech support. I thought I was hot shit and believed I was ready to move on to a networking job. I landed an interview to work in a network operations center at a company in north Austin, TX. I walked into the job interview pretty confident that I was going to get the job. The interview started, and he began asking me some basic technical questions.

Question 1: Have you ever heard of the OSI model?
My answer: No

Question 2: When you have a subnet mask of 255.255.255.252, how many usable IPs are there?
Me: 1

There were no more technical questions after that. I knew just from that fact that I had bombed the interview hard. After it was over, I sat in my car outside the building for about an hour and was incredibly angry at myself. It was a soul crushing experience. It was at this point I realized that, while I had been doing very well at my ISP tech support job, I had been spinning my wheels and was not setting myself up for the future.

Looking back at it now, I needed that to happen. If I hadn't done that interview, I probably would have continued doing tech support for a lot longer than I did.

Yeah. I used to work for a telecom and handled call delivery problems between service providers. I hated that shit.

The companies basically charge a fraction of a penny per call that travels through their networks. They'll route the call through one of multiple available paths, most often the one that gets them the best profit.

And then we'd get a trouble ticket because a call from phone number A to phone number B happened at a precise time and had choppy audio. We would have to look at the call and its data and either provide an explanation or open a ticket with a downstream provider if the problem was suspected to be with them.

This steered me even more to the network side of things. We had some very capable voice engineers, but I hated that part of the job.

Now if they could just stop scammers from making a billion calls a day
The FCC ordered telecoms to stop delivering those car warranty calls, which ended some of it. Hopefully they'll do that for a lot more.

Do you have a list of these "thousands"? I can think of maybe ten or twenty, and the recent ones have had consequences (being in or out of prison isn't the only measure of justice)

Yeah This ruling by the judge is absolutely the worst consequence Trump has ever had to deal with so far. Normally, he would just pay a fine that is a fraction of his profit from his fraudulent activities. Losing his business empire in New York is huge.

Also, NY AG Letitia James did make a criminal referral to federal prosecutors and the IRS, so hopefully they actually act on it.

Is this enough to send him to prison? There have been thousands of we got him! moments but he still walks free.

This is part of a civil lawsuit, so he wont face any jail/prison time over this. However, as a part of this ruling, the judge canceled the business licenses for the Trump Organization, Donald Trump, Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump, and a few others.

Theyre likely to appeal, but they cant explain away the fraud in the evidence presented. This was set to go to trial next week, but the judge ruled this way because the evidence presented by the state is so overwhelming. So the state will have to prove some other things during the trial, but this part was the core of what she was arguing.

So now, Donald Trump, Eric Trump, Donald Trump Jr., Alan Weisselberg(sp?) and others are not allowed to be officers or directors of any company in the state of New York. From what Ive been reading, theyll have to find people to handle the dissolution of companies and the assets belonging to those companies in the state.

The NY AG is seeking the following relief as a result of this lawsuit:
  • $250,000,000 fine
  • Permanent ban for Donald Trump, Eric Trump, and Donald Trump Jr. from being officers or directors of any company in the state
  • 5 year ban for the Trump organization doing real estate business in the state

I think that about covers the basics of what the state is asking for

This is crazy as hell in my mind

Ive been paying attention to this case since NY AG Letitia James announced it. I looked at the relief she was requesting in this lawsuit I thought she had a case because Trump is such a serial liar, but I questioned whether the relief would actually be granted. The case progressed, and the judge said the trial was happening on October 2nd, 2023 come hell or high water. The judge was very well aware of Trumps common attempts to delay things. Then he actually appointed a financial monitor, which made me even more convinced that he would rule in favor of the state.

And then today, the judge actually just fucking canceled their business licenses because the evidence presented is overwhelming. Its real now And Im still surprised and trying to wrap my head around this. I wasnt expecting this to be a real thing that happened to Trump because he has gotten away with just paying a relatively small fine for his fraud so many times in the past. Trump literally had to shut down the Trump Foundation because he kept stealing money from it. He just had to pay a fine a they all just moved on as if nothing happened.

Its happening, though. Business licenses canceled. And according to Tristan Snell, the properties will basically be treated like Trump is bankrupt

Nuts
