Way back in the early days of PCs, I bought a cheap game bundle that came with Life & Death. The game used CGA graphics (4 whole colors!) and the PC speaker. None of the games in the bundle came with manuals, so I had no idea how to play or that it could use the speaker.

So I headed off to surgery. First thing I did was pick up the scalpel. The nurse helpfully told me I should anesthetize the patient first. "What kind of hospital is there where I have to do everything myself?" And I started searching for the anesthesia. I had no clue what anything was, but I finally found a syringe labeled with the letter "A". A for anesthesia, maybe? I gave the patient an injection of "A" and then picked up the scalpel. The nurse didn't say anything, so I figured that must be it. I took the scalpel and cut a large square on the patient's abdomen.

The computer SCREAMED

This absolutely startled the hell out of me, and then I burst out laughing at the absurdity of the whole thing.

RAINFALL: Hilary is expected to produce storm total rainfall

inches, across portions of the northern Baja California Peninsula
through tonight. Flash and urban flooding, locally catastrophic, is
expected, especially in the northern portions of the peninsula.

Heavy rainfall in association with Hilary is expected across the
Southwestern United States, most intense from today into Monday
morning. Rainfall amounts of 3 to 6 inches, with isolated amounts
of 10 inches, are expected across portions of southern California
and southern Nevada. Dangerous to catastrophic flooding is
expected. Across portions of Oregon and Idaho, rainfall totals of
1 to 3 inches with local maxima to 5 inches are expected through
Tuesday morning, resulting in localized, some significant, flash
flooding.

WIND: Hurricane conditions are expected within the hurricane
warning area this morning and are possible within the hurricane
watch area later today. Tropical storm conditions are occurring
within the southern portion of the tropical storm warning area and
will spread northward today. Tropical storm conditions are expected
to begin in southern California later today.

Winds could be particularly strong and gusty in and near areas of
elevated terrain. Higher gusts are expected well inland and will
persist even after the system becomes post-tropical.

STORM SURGE: A dangerous storm surge is likely to produce coastal
flooding along the western Baja California peninsula of Mexico near
where the center passes the coast in areas of onshore winds, or east
of the center if Hilary makes landfall. The surge will be
accompanied by large and destructive waves. Coastal flooding is
possible along the northern coast of the Gulf of California today
through early Monday.

TORNADOES: A tornado or two may occur today from mid-morning through
the evening over parts of the lower Colorado River Valley, Mojave
Desert, and Imperial Valley regions.

SURF: Large swells generated by Hilary will affect portions of the
Baja California Peninsula and southern California over the next
day or two. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening
surf and rip current conditions. Please consult products from your
local weather office.

One of my favorite games as a kid was an Atari 800 game called Mountain King.

If you were foolish enough to venture down to the bottom level of the mine, there was a giant spider that would suddenly rush out and if it caught you, it would encase you in a web. If you didn't escape by the time the spider returned, it would eat you alive. As you progressed through the levels the spider would get harder and harder to see, and more and more difficult to escape its web. At level 8, the spider became completely invisible, and impossible to escape from.

The spider can outrun you, so your only hope is to jump over him, or jump or climb away from the bottom of the mine. But there are tunnels where you can't jump, so the only thing you can do is run and hope you can get out of the tunnel before the spider catches you.

Now, it does have tax advantages IF you're actually going to need it. If you have a medical condition, a family or are thinking of starting a family, or are planning for a surgery or the like, then by all means, put in as much as you think it's going to cost. Never put in more than your maximum out of pocket.

HSA is where it's at. Anything you put in is yours forever, and it's all tax-free. Only disadvantage is that you start with nothing, but if you are starting your job late in the year, you can still put in the maximum amount by the end of the year ($3850 single, 7750 family). I started my job in August, and couldn't make any HSA contributions until September, but I still managed to put in almost the full nut by December 31st, and I saved SO MUCH on taxes. Nearly half of my contributions were either from the employer or tax savings.

The problem for me is that most games - most fictional media in general - are awful at realistically depicting bows.

One of the biggest offences is one you're tangentially referencing in your post: if you shoot someone with a bow suitable for combat (i.e. a war bow or high draw-weight hunting bow), unless you're shooting at range that arrow is going to go right through them. The whole trope of someone shooting someone else with a bow at close range and having the arrow dramatically stick out of their chest is pure fiction, yet almost no depictions of bows get that detail right (I think I've seen precisely one time where someone was shot with a bow and didn't wind up with the arrow sticking out of them).

I did some checking, and $20 in 1934 would have been worth the equivalent of $460 in today's dollars. That was probably several days wages for somebody back then, and someone in my family (my great-great-grandmother, most likely) just set that bill aside and saved it for nearly 90 years.

Notes of that age and condition are worth about $100-150, so it's actually kind of a loss.
