I mean, it's Mario 1. Not a lot to say here. Not being able to go backwards is kind of a bummer, but overall it holds up better than virtually any other NES game. Always fun to go back to and knock out a run. I appear to be a bit rusty though as it took me quite a while to get through this time around.

I'm not the biggest SMB1 fan, mostly because I think later games in the series are just pain better, but it's still one of the best games in the NES lineup and certainly the best of the ones we've played so far. I debated between it and Pokemon TCG for awhile, but ultimately I think I give Mario the slight edge there.

Yes. I think people who say silent protagonists have no character don't pay attention. There are a lot of ways to give characters personality other than dialogue.

A few ground rules:

Explanation of Levels:

Level 1: Pick a winner. Simply pick one team to win their game. If they win, you go on to level 2.

Level 2: Pick an Underdog to win. You must pick a team that is an underdog to win their game. Underdogs will always be the team listed second.

Level 3: Level 3: 2 Games with Spread. Using the spreads I provide, pick 2 games. You must get both correct to move on. Spreads work by giving (-) or getting (+) points. The team that is the favorite to win "gives" points to the underdog. If you choose the favorite to win, they must still win after "giving" those points to the underdog. If you choose the underdog, you would be correct if they win the game after "getting" those points. For example, if a game says "Giants (-2.5) vs. Cowboys," if you pick the Giants, they must actually win the game by at least three points; if you pick the Cowboys, you would win if they actually won the game or lost by two points or less.

I think if you win enough games, there's like a championship or something, but I decided I had enough after winning three games. Partly because we only won one match of Hockey and Baseball, and partly cause this game absolutely sucks.

First of all, pass defense is basically rock paper scissors, because if you choose the wrong play you're going to get gashed every time. Even if you control your defensive lineman and get to the quarterback, half the time he just runs right through him and doesn't sack him. This is annoying beyond belief and after it happened three plays in a row I decided I didn't want to play anymore. Then there's passing on offense. The CPU intercepts any ball thrown within a mile radius of a defender, and your quarterback is apparently in capable of leading a receiver so even if they have a step it gets picked because the ball is thrown where they are instead of where they're going. I mean, I know this game is ancient but it's downright awful. It's a disgrace to the game of football.

I started this up when wallz was on vacation because it's a Japan exclusive, so I assumed he wouldn't be playing. I figured I'd knock it out in a couple days and get back into the NA lineup. Boy, was I wrong.

The playtime is one thing. 23 hours isn't that long... for an RPG. But some of these puzzles took a lot of brainpower and I couldn't play much per day because I just ran out of juice. It was pretty easy at first but about halfway through it really kicked up the difficulty. Or I'm just bad, which is very possible!

Puzzle games typically age pretty well, as they don't require precise controls and such. Occasionally this game does require some pretty tight timing, and those sections can be a little rough, but overall not too bad. There were also some mechanics that were never explained, like respawning enemies by covering the tile they start on, but maybe that stuff was explained in the book. Overall, it was a fun puzzle game that really tested my brain, but it always felt good when I finally found the solution. The final boss was an absolute chump though.

I've never gotten a flu shot and never caught the flu (knock on wood) so I don't feel motivated to get it
I did get the first COVID shot but I had a bad reaction and never even got the second dose, let alone any boosters

on a serious note Im guessing mzero is either very busy or has some personal stuff going on this week. Running anything like this takes a good bit of time and effort so lets all try to be patient. Not that theres anything the tiniest bit wrong with anyone asking. Hope all is well for you mzero.
