American news media in general doesn't care about inner city mass shootings between rival gangs. There's no shocking marketable outrage to be farmed from it. Innocent bystanders shot and killed during rival gang violence are less likely to be acknowledged by news outlets today simply because gangs were responsible for the killings.

It doesn't spark clicks. It doesn't drum up votes; not as much as collective outrage does.

The American media industry doesn't bother spotlighting most events of gang violence because those in charge don't give a flying crap about communities dealing with those hazards until it's voting time and media-supportive policies/candidates are on the table.

But every person that is racist/homophobic is right wing

False.

Some hardnosed left leaning people still hold racist, sexist, and bigoted views. They just tend to be more private about it unless there's a platform where they are allowed to vocalize it under the guise of progressivism. "No true Scotsman" doesn't fly. They are leftwing; just the toxic kind.

  • Some left leaning race activists invoke many of the ideological hatemongering tactics they claim to oppose, excusing their version as virtuous.
  • Some left leaning pundits claim they want to promote gender equality, while continuing to support policies that are clearly discrimination based on gender.
  • Some left leaning feminists are TERFs.
  • Some communities overwhelmingly associated with voting leftwing still have their own share of internal issues of people within those communities engaging in racism, sexism, and bigotry. For example: there's LGBTQ people who openly engage in all 3 while looking for partners despite voting for leftwing promotions of equality and acceptance.

If you really believe being leftwing should be synonymous with virtue, understand that has a requirement of acknowledging and calling out when members of said group act like hypocrites failing to practice what they preach. Sincerity and accountability get dumped when no one in the group checks for authenticity. People who want to promote leftwing beliefs as just and humane have incentive to check those within the group who conflict with that message. Quality requires quality control.

The case discussed in that topic was about a mass shooting involving child victims at a school. That's a subject that's going to hit a lot of people emotionally. And some of the emotionally charged responses are not going to be ToS friendly. Par for the course on the internet.

The user in question has walked the line in discussions before and I'm sure she's upset certain people on this board. I'm surprised she didn't get nixed earlier with how blunt she was. She definitely identified as a feminist and gay, but some of her comments suggested she was the TERF variety without directly stating it. Not the first time I've heard of a lesbian with that outlook...

Guns are a problem

Ain't that the understatement of the century.

And if the reported details are true about the shooter in this case (being trans), it's a surreal moment for me personally. I'm typically not worried about any of the trans people I've met shooting up a place. I always figured they had more reason to fear being the victims of a shooting themselves. It makes me curious about the motives of the shooter in this case and why they targeted a school full of children. I've fallen into that trap investigators infamously warn about: I want to know why.

Like I don't believe this event will turn into an epidemic and there's going to be a huge uptick in trans offenders committing shootings. I'm just a bit shocked to hear a mass shooter is trans.

I always thought the idea that "men can't acknowledge the attractiveness of another man " was bullshit. One of the ways men have gauged their ability to attract a certain woman for centuries was taking into account how attractive the competing men were.

Plus men platonically hero worshipping male icons has been a thing probably dating all the way back to prehistoric tribal times.

2. It's POLICY to arrest men every time for any type of domestic disturbance call, been that way for years all over America.
EDIT: To be clear, the arrest is mandatory period. Even if she recants on the spot, even if a third party made the complaint and they both deny it, even if there's no visible injury to anyone. Domestic violence call = automatic man gets arrested, period.

It's true. Many, if not all, American police departments still operate on the extremely sexist and draconic "Duluth Model" which basically translates to: when responding to a DM call involving a female person, ALWAYS presume she is innocent and the victim by default. ALWAYS presume a male person (men and teen boys) accused of violence are guilty by default. Female persons are granted the benefit of the doubt and do not require witnesses to corroborate innocence or accusations (Believe All Women). Male persons do not receive these privileges.

No joke, that's basically how the policies rooted in the Duluth Model function and have for decades. They're long overdue for repeal for a variety of reasons, some of which were present the days of it's institutional application. Even some feminists (typically center left) have come forward pointing out the inequality of the model and laws birthed from it's implementation. I state that to note the irony because many other feminists have incentive to uphold the practice, not repeal it, and they're not a minority among the figurehead organizations of today's movement. Feminists who actually seek equality out of principle (rather than political pandering), however, have spoken over the years that the Duluth Model needs to be buried.

If a man is the victim of DM by a female perpetrator and calls the police for help, there is still a significant possibility in the US he will get cuffed and taken into custody due to practice of the Duluth Model policies. The reverse is NOT true. Female accused are often not arrested. Even if the guy has witnesses stating he was the victim and shows clear signs of being physically attacked...the woman's word legally bears more weight than his (regardless of truth). She has a very real chance of walking away scot free. Seriously. It's why witnessed incidents of male DM victims getting arrested instead of an violent girlfriend/wife (who the cops allow to stay in the man's residence) are not rare. And it's a big reason some male victims don't trust American police in these scenarios.

It's the Oscars, not a political election. There's no urgent legal incentive to check the legitimacy of a TV award show's voting results in the first place.

Sometimes when a show is claimed to be operating on audience voting, it's fabricated, meaning the selected results were already preset beforehand which the audience is obviously never told about. It would ruin the illusion of participation. So even if an award show claimed it's results fully depended on viewer polls, it should be taken with a grain of salt. Plenty of former employees who worked these shows will tell you the same.

What's the urgency for finding a date?

If you feel like you're suffocating when single, that's a more serious issue. It can ironically impact the quality of partners you invite into your life out of desperation leading to less stable relationships and faster breakups. Being thirsty or too anxious over feeling lonely attracts shitty partners that will only offer short term commitments and zero compromises. Feeling confident even while single is less likely to chase away better quality partners.

As an adult you should be strong enough to function comfortably coupled or solo. If you're not, you need to work on that. Otherwise this cycle will never end for you. And you will attract someone who's ready to exploit it because they can smell that energy miles away.

Is Chrono Trigger really that good

Compared to certain titles we have now, it's aged like a typical 1990s SNES rpg. I would say nostalgia is what kept most of the awe alive in the fanbase. It's, however, not a poor release as a retro hit and has a solid storyline backed by a comfortable play system that's held up over the years. It also has a NewGame+ mode.

IMO it was better developed than the classic Final Fantasy entries at the time.

I knew something was up when Black Adam was not set to appear in Shazam 2. He's one of Billy Batson's top archnemeses next to Doctor Sivana and Mister Mind. His powers are similar to Billy's, but Black Adam has been shown to be far more ruthlessly cunning in using them as an adult dictator.

Plenty of comic fans have been begging for a Superman vs Black Adam showdown on the big screen for years. He teamed up with Billy in the comics in more than one occasion to face off against Black Adam (Billy handicapped by childlike inexperience, Supes having a vulnerability to magic, and Black Adam being a powerhouse having neither of those issues). They're entertaining showdowns and IMO the Rock could have brought that imposing presence on screen.

Missed that golden opportunity when DC pointlessly burned Henry Cavill.

If you're not comfortable with your coworker's flirtatious conduct, the typical first route is to gently ask them to at least tone it down, ask them to stop, or introduce some unflattering context that makes you appear less attractive to them. A classic example is stating you prefer to keep things platonic at the workplace. There's ways to defuse these situations without immediately involving management.

When casually defusing the situation does not seem like a viable option, it's time to discuss things with management or HR (not everyone's first choice, but often a necessary one). Be sure to have your receipts ready and be prepared for potential backlash from your coworker over being outed for misconduct. When I have handled these situations, I generally spoke to my primary supervisor first whom I keep on a cordial basis with (which has purpose). I ask them to monitor my coworker's awkward behavior themselves before asking any authority to lower the hammer. Sometimes a supervisor witnessing the behavior and commenting on it can be enough to send a message to the coworker, potentially leaving you out of a 3-way discussion yourself. Just also be prepared for your supervisor to bring you into that discussion anyway to give your opinion openly. Be polite to your coworker, but be direct that it is an issue for you. Hesitating to clarify details at that stage does you no good, it's too late...the mic is on, speak up.

A person being transgender does not exempt them from workplace rules of conduct or getting nailed for them.

That being said, I could sympathize with a recently transitioned person feeling an emotional attachment to a trusted coworker they knew beforehand. Most trans people are in need of social support after transitioning and some are eager to find an interested dating partner to help validate their life choices. IMO some of them move a little too fast with that step, but I can at least empathize why they would feel a need to.

Just don't feel like you're obligated to turn your life upside down to make a coworker feel more comfortable with the changes they decided to make in theirs. If your personal orientation/preferences don't synch with theirs...that's not a situation to fix on your side. They just need to get over their crush like other people do.

I think he sensed shifting trends in the current American media market and made career adjustments to "bunker" through it. NBC can also be notorious assholes. The man's rich and still known, he'll be fine.

How would this even be implemented? Who would be expected to pay for it? The money would have to come from somewhere and I don't see how even glorified California could pull it off.

It doesn't sound like something feasible, but more like a political stunt to garner attention for a cause that's more complicated than shoving money at it. A public hearing really doesn't mean much.

I doubt enough people were legit "hate watching" the series to justify continuing it. I think those invested in it will lie their asses off about the numbers to save face for both their pathetic attempt at meta edginess and preserving the studio's rep. Both Mindy Kaling and Netflix have incentive to blow smoke over it...Netflix being a known repeat offender.

No surprise, it stunk.

The original move came out in 1988. Fans of it would only look at this new series out of nostalgia and Disney basically gutted that selling point. Warwick Davis makes an appearance and the baby is grown up playing a part of the main cast, but that's about it....

Even if you can get past that, the writing is lazy and the main cast is bloated. The movie worked with the odd pairing of Warwick Davis and Val Kilmer (plus the baby who naturally didn't do much besides be an adorable prop). That's it for the main cast. These two had years of acting experience and unexpected chemistry on screen. Dwarven Willow (Davis) was the actual main protagonist of the story, not the tall athletic rogue Madmartigan (Kilmer)...a switch for Hollywood at the time and caught audiences off guard (that's good). This new main cast feels more like the CW and CBC collaborated to check boxes with little regard to actual chemistry in scenes. There's at least 2 characters you could remove and still make the script progress forward with how the series is written. Couldn't do that with the movie...

The casting and roles echo "corporate checklist". And I say this as someone who was looking forward to seeing a genuine Willow spinoff succeed. This screamed lazy attempt at keeping the rights to an IP by name drop alone, sorry.
