Car situation is: - His, which he and my mom use - One lease for family that I'm temporarily using as my primary. - My primary car that's been a long project to repair. Hindsight is a bitch, as I committed to the revival before my uncle's kidney failure occurred. Selling it now would be pretty backwards, and his car has more potential market value. I'm not sure if I can play with what can be interpreted as primary and excessive in respect to him. Ever since his kidney failure last summer, I noticed there's been a strong decline in his coordination, cognition, and some flashes of lacking composure. I'd want to be ahead of this move because I'm unable to watch him myself, and my mom already needs my help. That being said, I don't know how I can make anything happen. Been going through some forum threads and pretty much the bottom line is it's always going to be a heavy expense even after medicaid and SS + disability. Unfortunately I was in the position to just make an ok living for myself and save a bit each month. Semi-boosted by being able to pool expense when my mom and uncle were working. I don't resent the idea of taking care of family, but mathematically it's like I'd be walking into a failure. Siblings and cousins are younger and still barely making a living for themselves. I can't ask other aunts and uncles to help because they're probably going to need their own help sooner than later. Guess this is a wake up call for me. Fast turn in the span of months from "stable" to more like "screwed ", where both are having to retire at the same time. Current measure I'm looking at is selling his car, which I know is gonna be pretty sour because he held out a long time for it. The convenience is that they did the thinking for you as far as putting most of the ingredients and recipe/procedure together. A small speaking-out-loud thing (not to make it about me). Today is one year exactly after my dad passed. Time/hindsight has shifted perspective a slight bit since it's become more familiar. Maybe one key takeaway I had is that there's no asking questions or seeking answers at some point (about him). Any time that I pick up something new, is through passing when an older family member recalls something. The mindset that still sticks is just trying to paint a clearer picture of what it was like in his shoes when he was my age, and fatherhood just begun for him. What decisions he made and what drove them; where he was and was not confident; what was he thinking about on his own time between fatherhood and working. It's a little bit of personal understanding of him - never to actually change my relationship and perception of him - but I'd say it's also heavily an understanding of the world he was living in. I don't think I'd really learn anything in a way that would benefit me, but it'd be nice to know about that time with clarity. Theyre going to try to move him down to the hospice ward because he is not doing well and hes refusing his medications. He was pretty sleepy yesterday and hes pretty out of it today. He has rallied from something like this when he was at home but the doctor says its looking pretty grim. When my dad was entering a difficult stage, he had lactic acidosis and it frequently forced him to sleep/wake. He also was refusing morphine. Nurse quietly doses his water, presumably to keep him from suffering. Otherwise he could still think pretty straight as far as broad memory goes and talk. He even tried getting out of bed. Personal take (and not a suggestion): that was not a pleasant situation to keep up with. My dad wanted to see my mom again, and visitation rules limited how many people would be in once. If I knew my mom couldn't stay in the room for long, I would have stayed until the end. People trash that train with their food so much, and at some point I gave up on sitting (this was before the needles). Either woke up earlier to eat my food before going to the station or waited after my 3 hour commute to my destination. I don't want to write up a picture, but a lot of people who did that really came with the mentality of being above everything, some being friends I grew up with. Skip fare gates and stuff, don't be surprised if enforcement and price hikes kick in. BART and whoever is just trying to not have their spaces trashed for everyone to use. This guy sounds like a prime example.
