also heck enthusia being a 0-2 victim is just tragic. to be fair, g-darius also ending up as that would've been a similarly criminal act, and at the very least, all its top songs remained unused so it's good to come back next year if the no returning songs rule is still around

voted utaware in the poll, though I personally prefer the regular forms of Utawarerumono 1 to the remake tbh. it's a shame the fan translations for the ps2 and psp versions never happened since they definitely had significant quality of life improvements to the srpg gameplay without replacing everything like the remake did, and the sensitive content of the original release is less than ideal. remake's handling of the visual novel half is largely just a straight upgrade though, save for some quirky menu selection stuff from the original (getting to pick what areas you go to on a minimap) i miss. also both the fan and official translations have some questionable (even if justified) localisation decisions regarding names, the official use of Hakuowlo is probably the most glaring example

oh right and similar to planetarian I also have to strongly recommend giving Narcissu 1st and 2nd a try, combined they're only like 10 hours long or so but still quite powerful, and they're free (both on and off steam)

this non-steam version of both was delinked a year ago since the steam version had a more recently updated translation but this one was never fully obsoleted since it had more translations on it (3 english tls of narci1 and 2 for side 2nd) and the ones that got removed from the steam version (from haeleth) were also the best ones imo. since they were both official translations and also freeware i don't think there's really any issue with me linking to the installer directly especially since it wasn't fully removed.) oh yeah also 2nd is a prequel but i still think it's better to read the original first

... eh, i don't have enough time now to reach a verdict i'm comfortable with yet, if i'm free after my house inspection in about 10-14 hours and the match is still going i might come back to it

when i said i was definitely not voting rivals before i honestly managed to forget that this was still an alt so uh hey thanks for forcing a tie so it could play lol. i am going to turn on it so hard from next round onward though since the only song left in it that i'd likely vote over even like an eighth of the field is nihil (still wild to me how all the songs not from rivals almost ended up filling all of the top 3 of the set, yet it was still the one nominated. i'm getting justice for non-roa flashy next time with a bean dreams set for sure)
sakimoto never really seemed to suit 13s to me but this song really is a peak form of sakimoto. still, it still feels like an act of mercy was passed here, to see that this match isn't totally one-sided despite the continued attempt to murder umineko for the hubris of requesting less zts epics (to be fair these kinda are c-tier (b-tier maybe but that feels slightly generous) non-zts umineko songs, could've just done RIP or discolor (yeah it's zts but i don't think anyone would've complained lol)). i also wish the vocal version of golden nocturne was valid... granted i think that for the longest time the demographics were such that the instrumental version was way more potent a pick here anyway, but whatever the case i at least would have likely flipped if it was the one here. close either way though
damn both games turned up to the match here. i'm glad since the sa2 set is so... arbitrarily arranged (not in a bad sense mind you, it just tries too hard to show off specifically two mostly incompatible aspects of the soundtrack that to their credit are still good, just polarising) and the arceus one... well, it was obviously missing arceus itself (fair though) and i was also gutted in hindsight that obsidian 1, alabaster 2 and crimson 2 (ok that one maybe was a bit riskier to have but shh) also didn't make it on... anyway love the style of both but i have to give an edge to fly in the freedom in that particular regard, it's an underrated song of such a high standard for jazz vgm... but it's also so fucking hard to top the feeling arceus' remixes have, especially those coupled with ichinose's style. match hard

this is just an evil match. I don't want to go against something like customise just because it's just a little "too passive" because that's exactly what it's going for (frankly, if it wasn't in this game i'd have assumed it was an ending theme in a 90s anime ova) but here we are. incarnation of desire definitely demands a lot of whatever its opponent is because it just picks up so incredibly well despite its unassuming start.
this is also just an evil match. i do have a bad feeling that maybe i should've uhhh, maybe pushed to get my overall favourite of "the other enthusia songs i like not currently in the set" in rather than defaulting to whatever one hadn't been used in vgmggs prior if i had known it would be facing hecking g-darius in losers r1 but really nfun only has himself to blame tbh. not to mention even for g-darius invivo is one of the more lowkey really hard ones to top. going back to horizon though i think it's a really catchy song though. feel so bad that i have to do this especially when i think i might've just barely taken it over everything else today maybe, which is kind of insane on a day as stacked as this
shade armory good. sound design bears most of what i really like about freedom planet in general which is a very good thing. compositionally reminds me a bit of like, the top gear games on snes unexpectedly, which i also like. in general i like it. despite this though, probably my least favourite song today which is wild. ys redbook synths are still one of my favourite ys things, and bronze district is a song that represents them so hecking well. what on earth is today even

honestly maybe my favourite day so far now that i think about it. even though remarkably none of them had any of my favourites on their respective sets, these are all very strong sets that drew something that i really like about them. rooting for everything, praying most for enthusia since it's really been the one that's been furthest from showing its potential yet (despite having its 1 and 2 slot songs it really feels like its 5 and 6 to me personally, and from here there is a noticeable gap to the rest) and i deeply hope it gets the chance.
