Do two dogs count as a pseudo match?

21 Pixie

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/1/9/5/AAUHRBAAD0br.jpg

Pixie is a dog currently living with Lush who considers herself to be Data's arch nemesis. She also seems like she has some of the biggest character development of anyone in the campaign.

Pixie was simply a good dog. Loving to her master and overall pretty timid and obedient. Then the world went wrong and Pixie found herself alone and injured. This is when the party found her and with Data's help convinced her to come with them in exchange for helping find her master. She came back to ZZ, was adopted by Lush, and started interacting a lot with Data 7. That last part would be the catalyst for her change.

Pixie started out meek and proper, calling Data 'Sir' and never wanting to play to hard or misbehave in any way. He kept pushing her to be more than a pet, even though she was very happy in that role. Still she became more outgoing and vocal thanks to him. Despite their many difference Pixie developed a pretty strong crush on Data, and who can blame her for falling for the cute magical brave hero that showed her such attention. Unfortunately Data did not feel the same way, and faked a relationship with Rover to get her to give up. Give up she did not and when she found out that Data wasn't just bi but interested in a relationship with non-dogs she was outraged. To make matters even worse, Data 7 and his bff Patch created an animal team and didn't invite her! Well it turns out that the old saying about a woman scorned and all that applies to dogs also.

In her heartbreak Pixie became angry and the once timid and shy dog was gone. Now she had a mission, to get back at her arch nemesis who broke her heart. She created her own animal group to counter the Big Troubles, naming it the Passable Persuasions (not a good name imo but she is a dog so I'll give her a pass). They are dedicated to opposing and stopping the Big Troubles though to be honest they seem very out matched. Of course that still can make for a very fun rivalry to read about.

I don't think her team has actually accomplished anything big yet but hey maybe they are slow to start. Pixie herself certainly was. Reading about this dog and her huge amount of growth and development was great. I hope I get to hear more stories in the future.

I think I should have ranked Pixie a little higher. This middle tier was honestly the hardest for me to put in order.

And to quote a local paper the Cedar Rapids Gazette:
if a teen gets sick, injured or killed on the job, the company they worked for would be free from any civil liability of negligence.

Almost forgot to do my second today.

22 Black Alice

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/5/0/9/AADKmbAAELdV.png

Black Alice is a young magical woman residing in the Oblivion Bar, one which an incredible and powerful ability. She can copy the powers (and look) of any other nearby magical person. This includes everyone from the demon Etrigon to former rankee Constantine, to magical super heavyweights like Zatanna and even The Spectre. Absolutely insane potential. That is just nuts, and always provides a bunch of fun pictures.

Of course she is not this high for her powers. Alice is an intense, emotionally driven young woman. Quick to anger and impulsive, just what you would want from someone with such incredible and dangerous abilities. After A-day she went looking for her family and I don't believe she ever found them, which would be incredibly difficult. She eventually agreed to join the resistance and come to ZZ where she made some new friends like Pepper and Brennus and met a bunch of other magical people to be potential mentors.

Every character seems to have fun stories with Alice but my favorite is the misunderstanding with Brennus. Alice had a crush on Brennus and thought he might feel the same way (this was before he was out of the closet). Then one day Brennus out of nowhere asked her to secretly sneak off to the Bar bathroom with him and seemed nervous and awkward and didn't give a reason why. Obviously like any teen girl Alice assumed this was like something out of a show and Brennus was asking her to go make out (and maybe more?) in the bathroom. He was not, he just wanted help investigating Arion. When she tried to kiss him Brennus stopped her and admitting to her he was gay, which was huge for him and showed how close he felt to her that he was willing to come out to her first. That last part was lost on Alice in the moment and she became enraged at being led on by Brennus, so she channeled the demon Etrigan and blasted him out of the bathroom and back into the bar. Oops.

Bad situation for Brennus but absolutely hilarious to read about for me.

Good morning. Two new characters to start today off I see.

23 Kobra / Pawn 905

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/9/7/1/AAOJ0pAADa_L.jpg

The players were introduced to Kobra as Pawn 905, a nameless friendly and helpful Checkmate member which a unique gimmick. Pawn 905 knew all of them and always acted like they had a previous interactions before they met him, referencing events that he wasn't around for or showing knowledge of them that he shouldn't have based on their interactions. In hindsight this really should have been a big old red flag. Instead everyone basically made friends with him and just chalked up the weird references to non-existing interactions and surprising amount of knowledge as simply a funny joke by Scarlett. In realty Pawn 905 was Kobra pretending to be a nobody to infiltrate Checkmate.

Then one day it was time to enact his true plan. A massive and devastating betrayal and attack on Z''onn Z'orr. He had things put in place to neutralize powerful former allies, like trapping poor Rozetta in fire. He had an army of dewormers assaulting the base. I'm pretty sure he shot and nearly killed someone as well. Oh and I'm pretty sure he was sleeping with Saorise at the time and literally started his betrayal in her room. Yikes. Pretty sure there were some other hidden allies who joined him as well. His plan was largely a success as he escaped after doing a lot of damage and stealing some powerful items/weapons plus killing a bunch of minor agents and injuring and scarring some major ones. Checkmate was left devastated, physically but even more so emotionally as the betrayal of someone they liked and considered a friends hurts and also can sow distrust in a group of misfit allies like the Z'onn Z'orr residents.

Kobra proved to be a sneaky, clever, and very effective enemy. One I imagine a lot of people are looking forward to getting revenge on. Just a crazy event to read about that immediately set Kobra apart from so many of the enemies that the players have encountered throughout their adventures.

I mean it might be a bit of a surprise? Who knows.

24 Morro

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/5/3/2/AAblU3AAD6X8.jpg

One of the things that makes me love the Lantern comics are the diverse casts. Hero's and villains can look like anything and everything. The green lantern corp includes everything from a planet, to a squirrel, to a living math equation. But one of the most interesting Lanterns was one I had not heard about before, and that is Morro.

Morro is an alien but that isn't what makes him so unique, its his personality. Greens are all about willpower, it is the common trait. The rings go to the designated sector and find the strongest will to become a Green Lantern. So what happens when a ring goes to a mostly dead sector? That's where Morro's story fits. Morro is not strong willed or brave, he is meek. He got his ring because he was simply the only real option available. Its not like he is a crazy coward or anything but compared to the rest of the Lanterns? He stands out. It also doesn't help that his sector has a bad history with the Green Lantern corp, but he still is a believer in his cause and helps in his own way.

Morro basically keeps to himself and watches over the Oa crypts. And that is where Data 7 found him. And luckily the little talking dog can make himself very little and non-threatening when he wants to. Data 7 took a real liking to the timid lantern and is helping him become a braver more willful hero. Helping him find his self confidence. He is really helping the little guy find himself and in turn has made an ally among the Green Lanterns, something the party really needed.

In his big scene Morro stood up for the party and spoke on their behalf when they were being judged by Corp. It was a shocking moment for the other Lanterns, something they had never seen him do, which meant that his words carried a lot of weight and helped swing the decision in his new friend's favor.

Its a great little story leading to an awesome moment. Morro is a unique character even in a group filled with unique characters.

So close to another match.

25 Brother Eye

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/1/3/5/AAQKElAAEK4P.png

Brother Eye is an OMAC. The OMACs are a dangerous enemy, an army of cyborgs run by Mother Miracle. People and animals turned into mindless soldiers for Darkseid, each one a powerful enemy. But Brother Eye is different, while he is an OMAC he has a level of sentience that was not intended and his own autonomy. He should not exist, and if Mother Miracle learns that he does then that will be the end of him.

Sounds like a great potential ally. Brother Eye agrees, using cold robotic logic he has come to the conclusion that Mother Miracle will destroy not just the human race, but himself as well. So he is happy to help humanity survive in exchange for killing Mother Miracle and ensuring his survival To make it better Brother Eye seems to be able to take control of or maybe corrupt other OMACs, essentially slowly and carefully building his own private OMAC army. This means that any OMAC could be Brother Eye, and he has appeared in a few different locations. Of course he can only make himself known if no other OMACs or Darkseid agents are around, his secret is the most important to him and he will kill anyone to protect it.

Like Joker earlier, Brother Eye is another great example of the kind of dangerous allies you make in the apocalypse. Their goals are aligned but only up until Mother Miracle dies, and then who knows. He might stay loyal and keep his word. Or he might take over all the OMACs himself and try and wipe out everyone. But he is just to good of an ally to not take the risk of helping.

Maniac Hint #24: This character is not from Earth.

Last one for the bottom half of the rankings!

26 Stargirl / Courtney Whitmore

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/2/1/4/AAAe4tAADrpe.png

Stargirl was met in...lets say the Quad Cities, I feel like it was in the Midwest but I'm really bad at remembering where things happen. Anyway, this was the players found her, where she had been turned into a fury and was with a bunch of other furies. But wait! Then our heroes discovered that she was not actually mind controlled, she was faking it in order to help protect people in the city. Specifically she had a bunch of kids hidden away in a school being looked after by her and her dad.

Man, that takes some serious guts to fake that. An Stargirl is still a teenager, so this is a lot of pressure and responsibility to put on a young heroes shoulders. But she chose to do this in order to help.

With the help of Checkmate they were able to get her and her dad their weapons/suits and help her fight off the local baddies. Then she joined them in coming to Z'onn Z'orr where Pepper recruited her for her young hero team and where she is one of the main annoyball players.

Stargirl is normally a positive and friendly young hero who seems like a lot of fun, so the fact that she had to dress and act like a villain is made that much worse and that much more impressive. Stargirl just sounds like a fun addition to the team and the way she was introduced was really cool and an awesome story.

27 Rover

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/1/0/8/AAQKElAAEHNc.png

Rover is a dog, in fact he seems to be the doggiest dog in the campaign. While Artemis/Data and even Pixie show a lot of human personality traits and plots Rover seems to be a pretty normal dog. He just wants to play and eat and spend time with his friends. Just a big ,very dumb, lovable dog.

Now lets discuss the hint. Rover, the poor guy, got dragged into the crazy romance shape that is Data/Patch/Pixie/Prowley (or whichever cat it was). Data likes Patch but Patch just wants to be friends. Pixie likes Data but Data is gay. Prowley(?) the cat also likes Data and suggested Data pretend to be in a relationship with him in order to get Pixie to accept that they aren't meant to be. Data liked the idea but instead of the cat he picked Rover the big dumb male dog to be his fake relationship. Rover, of course, did not understand any of this and just thought he was hanging out with his friend Data, but eventually Data realized this ploy wasn't working and broke it off. Pixie then got mad and made the Pretty Persuasions as a counter to Data/Patch's Big Troubles team and recruited/forced Rover to join in

This is all far too complex for poor Rover to understand. The poor guy.

Now lets get to the real reason Rover is this high. How he plays catch. Normally when a dog plays catch it is either throwing a ball and the dog chasing it and bringing it back, or throwing a ball and the dog catching it in the air and bringing it back. That is not how Rover plays catch. No, Rover plays catch the exact same way as my turtle did. I sat a little ways away from him and pushed the ball right to him then he pushed it back to me. If the ball didn't get to him he might move a little to push it but more likely would wait for me to push it the rest of the way, same thing if it went to far to the side. I loved it and the fact that this big dog plays the same way gave me a huge soft spot for the guy. My turtle passed away a couple years ago so something that makes me remember happy times with my favorite pet is going to get a lot of points in my book.

Now somebody go take Rover out and throw a frisbee to him already.

28. AJ Curry

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/4/7/5/AAOJ0pAADW9b.jpg

Arthur Curry is better known as Aquaman, the powerful hero, King of Atlantis, and core member of the Justice League. Arthur Joseph "AJ" Curry is not Aquaman. He looks like Aquaman, has the same name as Aquaman, but he is definitely not Aquaman. Aquaman is dead. The throne of Atlantis is unoccupied. AJ Curry does not intend to sit on that throne. He also does not seem to have all the powers of Aquaman, but he is an Atlantean and can breathe underwater.

AJ Curry seems to be from a different Earth, even though the multiverse isn't supposed to exist anymore, and no one knows how he got to this earth (which I am just going to assume is Earth-8 based on the board). AJ Curry does not want to be a replacement for his deceased doppelganger, despite that many people would love him to step in.

The team met AJ when they went down to Atlantis to find out what was happening and find a new letter for Freddy. The mysterious Dweller in the Deep led them to wher King Shark and AJ were hiding. AJ was being protected by King Shark, who he had befriended. Eventually they both decided to come back to Z'onn Z'orr. There AJ made a startling discovery, his father was alive and running the lighthouse. On his earth Tom Curry was dead, and on this Earth Tom Curry had lost his son. Of course neither AJ nor Tom are actually the one who was lost, but there was a potential to fill the hole's left behind and bond in their shared grief and similar early experiences. But it would be awkward and difficult. So AJ joined the young heroes in a brand new game called Annoyball. A way to occupy there time and have a little fun, and also to annoy the man in the lighthouse near where they gathered to play. It was an awkward and immature way to reach out but it seemed to eventually work and now they have started to build a relationship.

There is one other relationship that needs to be mentioned. Minerva is an Atlantean PC who idolizes (and I think has a crush on) Aquaman. She was on the mission beneath the sea and you can imagine her excitemen to find the hero she thought was dead hanging out with King Shark. Unfortunately, as mentioned, AJ is not Aquaman. He looks just like her idol, sounds like her idol, but is definitely not the man she looks up to. Its a unique relationship, AJ has another Atlantean around but one who will struggle to accept him for who he is, and who he is not. Imagine someone hanging around your workplace/home who looks just like your personal hero, but isn't him. What a disappointment.

That dynamic of AJ as a man in the wrong world, a world where his counterpart was a massive hero and king who recently passed away. Everyone will of course want you to fill those giant shoes, and the fact that you aren't who everyone will see you as would be extremely tough. I do not envy AJ Curry, but I do really enjoy reading about him.

Maniac Hint #27: Has been part been of some relationship drama

29 John Constantine

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/8/4/4/AADKmbAAEKUc.png

Constantine is a badass wizard in a trench coat. Something of an anti-hero and definitely a bad boy with a heart of gold. He isn't trying to be a pure good hero but he can absolutely be trusted to help out his friends and is a very loyal ally. He has helped out different PCs with a variety of little tasks and even a bit of magical training I believe.

He also has a real soft spot for kids which is a trait I love in a character who often comes off as not child friendly.

For now Constantine is content to hang out at the oblivion bar with his beer and cigarettes and play no part in the war against magic that is being fought. We will see if he can stick to that though, or if he will give in and help when the chips are down.

To be honest, I may have ranked Constantine a bit too high due to my love of him in Legends of Tomorrow but he is an awesome character so who cares. I can't really remember any specifics he has done in the campaign, just that he has been his usual awesome and interesting self. I suppose that is enough.

The only filler in the entire series I wouldn't tell people to skip.

Well out of what I've watched at least.
I mean a couple of the movie set ups are OK but they are just to hype the movies and not worth watching unless you are going to watch the movie after.

Other than that there isn't really "filler episodes" in the 2nd half of the show. Not in the way people think of normally anyway. If they need to delay they just do a recap or flashback episode or just take some time off. But also, as mentioned, they basically do a chapter an episode so they aren't catching up.

Some people hate the 2nd half of the series others really love it. Just kind of have to see where you fall. The last like three large arcs have people who hate them and people who think they are among the best in the entire series.

Next arc has very different opinions on it. Just know that even if it feels separate from everything it really really isn't.

Arc/saga after that is arguably the best in the series.

Then another one with mixed opinions butt generally not as popular and more silly.

Then the start of a saga ending in the other popular choice for best arc in the series.

I definitely wouldn't say Alabasta is peak though it is almost always in people's top 5 and often top 3 arcs (assuming you merge water 7/Enies lobby )

As someone who doesnt follow the live action stuff they do is Mighty Nein an entirely separate thing? Either way Im already interested based on how good Vox Machina has been
Totally different characters. My understanding is it's the same world but a long time after the end of campaign 1.

I'd love to read a good summary of Taliesin's death if someone felt up to it sometime. I feel I've gotten a loose idea of what happened via these topics, but I don't believe the event itself has been directly recalled.

30 Fiddler (Isaac Bowin)

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/7/3/2/AAcguBAADoHM.jpg

Fiddler was a member of the Secret Six when they first become allies with Checkmate. I honestly don't know much about him but I know how he died.

The story of it is powerful and clearly made an impact on the players of that session. Its a great example of how sometimes the end of your story can be the most important to how you were remembered.

On a mission, the Secret Six and the party were betrayed by Cheshire and put into a horrible situation. It seemed they might struggle to escape at all but that was when Fiddler made a decision that it was time for his Swan Song. So he used his magical music to buy everyone time to escape. Which meant the party and allies fled to the sound of a fiddle playing, and the end of that playing was a deafening silence. Everyone knew that when the song ended it meant Fiddler was dead. But his sacrifice worked and everyone managed to escape, and now he will be remembered as a hero.

Even reading about it in past topics I could easily hear and imagine the scene. The party and allies fleeing as Fiddler plays his bardic battle. Music can be a powerful emotional trigger, and the emotion that would come when the music stopped is so clear and powerful. What a great dramatic moment.

This is the end of the C tier btw.

31 Mento / Steve Dayton

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/3/9/1/AADKmbAAEJ9v.png

Mento is an incredibly powerful psychic and a complete asshole. With his signature helmet on he can has no issue messing with people's head. He basically has no moral compass or compassion. My understanding is that this wasn't always the case, that Mento used to be a hero, but it is the case now.

Steve Dayton on the other hand is a genuinely good person. Unfortunately he can't use his powers without his helmet and wearing his helmet makes him act like...well Mento. This is such an interesting dynamic to me. ITs kind of like Cheetah/Barbara but more complicated because Steve would rather not be Mento. Unfortunately Mento provides a vital service at Z'onn Z'orr, protecting it psychically. Which means every needs Steve to wear the helmet and be the version of himself he doesn't like. So Steve has no choice but to spend almost all of his time as Mento. Its a really interesting character story.

Mento has been a big ally for the party. He was the one who wiped Fright's mind. He is also the person typically responsible for sending people inside other people's minds, something that has been used multiple times for some pretty important missions, like helping Misty and Uncle Sam. People have often come to him for help when psychic abilities are needed and Mento does help, just not always in the way you want. And certainly not in the most ethical way.

Maniac Hint #30: This character made it due to one scene.

We have a match!

32. The Joker / Oberon Sexton

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/9/4/3/AAOJ0pAADZRX.jpg

Arguably the most famous DC villain and obviously a big antagonist in the campaign....or not? Surprisingly the crown prince of crime has been more of an unwanted ally than an enemy to the Checkmate team.

And I do mean unwanted. Multiple party members are close with Oracle and Brennus is becoming BFFs with Harley Quinn (who has escaped that toxic relationship), so Joker is not someone a lot of people want anything to do with. Unfortunately for them Joker didn't introduce himself when they first met up in Campaign 2. No he was in disguise as the mysterious Oberon Sexton and convinced a team to help him do a job. The job was a success and Joker revealed himself in a flashy way right as it was coming to a close, to the shock of the party. When Joker was first ranked in a topic it was as the alter ego and in at that point in the write up it switched to a Joker ranking. Luckily for me I didn't scroll down at the start of the ranking so it was a surprise to me as well, and a great one.

Joker tricking the party into helping him and then making himself an ally worth working with again is just a great twist. People don't want to be on his side. They have to hide the alliance from two close friends who will not be okay with it. But if you can trust him (which you normally shouldn't) he is a powerful and cunning ally. Its just the kind of amazing chaos you would expect from Joker.

The weird thing is that he might actually be okay to work with right now? Batman is MIA and that basically takes away Joker's purpose in life, his motivation, his everything. With no archnemesis what's the point? And Joker blames Darkseid and the Society for losing Batman, so he is damned well going to turn his evil brain against them. As they say, the enemy of my enemy is my friend, and right now Joker and Checkmate have the same enemies.

Maniac Hint #31: This is an important person at Z'onn Z'orr

33 Bobo Benetti

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/6/2/1/AAOJ0pAADa5t.jpg

The man, the myth, the legend. The toughest man in the campaign, ol Bobo ready to throw fists with anyone who challenges him. Street thugs or Darkseid himself, Bobo will sock him in the kissah.

That's probably not a good imitation of Bobo's style but I tried. Bobo is one of a kind for sure. A completely normal tough guy who is super old school. He has a massive over confidence in his abilities but in a really fun way. He also has nicknames for most the PCs and that is always a fun trait.

I can't do justice in describing Bobo, but that's fine cause everyone in this topic knows why he is here.

34 Lono

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/9/5/7/AAQKElAAEJIF.png

I swear I had that hint before Cody did his Lono Hint/ranking.

Lono reminds me of an 80s action movie hero. The attitude, the long hair and clean shaven face, the attitude, and of course the over the top action. You know if Lono is around you are in for an adreneline filled time. And if you are an attractive female you are also in for some comments straight out of the 80s as well.

Lono's big moment was taking part in a massive car chase through the streets of...I'm gonna say Atlanta. With Data-7 as his unlikely partner they tore through streets in a scene straight out of the movies. It sounded like an absolute blast and was one of my favorite scenes to read about. He hasn't shown up a lot but he has really made the most of his appearances.

Maniac Hint #33: This character would either be great friends with or hate the last two people ranked (Guy and Lono).

The most interesting part of Guy that I don't think has been mentioned is that he's a former special education teacher, and there are a number of misfit Lanterns like Rot Lop Fan who swear up and down that Guy is actually their FAVORITE Terran, and the reason they've sided with Hal in the growing division of the Corps.

WarThaNemesis2 posted...
And on the flip side, Guy told a bunch of his fellow Lanterns about Roz'etta and Lashina.

...Guy's complicated.

Yeah that pretty much shows why Guy is both great and terrible. There is a reason one of his most famous comics moments is Batman punching him in the face. But he is still a hero at heart.

35. Guy Gardner

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/8/6/7/AAOJ0pAADYCD.jpg

Guy Gardner is a Green Lantern of Earth, he is also a total frat bro in all the worst ways. He Green Lantern Gaston. Super arrogant, he will hit on every attractive woman he sees, which given this is a comics world is a lot, always acts like he is the toughest most macho guy, and generally be an dumbass. But Guy is still a hero and a good person deep deep down inside. He really is trying to do good and ultimately is a harmless buffoon who is always good for a laugh when someone puts him in his place. Which happens quite often because he is skilled at pissing off or at least annoying of basically everyone.

And like many comics characters Guy isn't without his sad story. He was in love with the heroine Ice, who was killed. Despite all his comments towards women he hasn't gotten over her.

Final thing worth noting is that Guy has a female clone named Gal Gardner which is hilarious and those interactions sound amazing.

I'm trying not to let my actual feelings for the comics characters influence the rankings (that's why 20% of my HMs are Lanterns) but it probably did help Guy here. Because if nothing else my knowledge of him makes me excited to hear about any of the party's stories and interactions with the over the top Lantern
