TopicDad publicly shamed by mime for not helping
ClockworkHare

Ironically, the mime's actions implied that the wife was so wimpy she couldn't handle carrying a medium-size bag while holding a toddler.

He didn't make the supportive (nonverbal) statement the crowd thought he did.

The applause also reinforced the discriminating narrative that all dads are just babysitters, when many of them are just as capable and hardworking as many mothers. The wife said her husband had been contributing to taking care of their child and she wanted to give him a break. I believe her. She may have also felt bad about the applause coming across as shaming her husband. And her intuition would be correct.

The mime did it as part of an act, but it was still in poor taste.

I didn't need to get married. My husband wanted to and I said yes.
We both wanted to be exclusive, so it worked.

We're 2 men. Significantly less risk of either us getting crucified in court if we split.
I basically lacked reasons NOT to get married to him.

Plenty of people forgot there even were Brady Bunch spoof movies in the 90s.

Hollywood has been trying to rekindle the same chemistry they had with the original 90s Addams Family flick for a while now and still failing miserably. Not even the sequel matched it.

The casting of Raul Julia, Anjelica Huston, and Chistopher Lloyd had an eerie almost paranormal synch with their given roles. They were great choices and made their scenes memorable. Raul Julia will always be top Gomez to me because it was like he actually wanted to be as freaky as the character. No shade towards the guys stepping up behind him, they got a tough act to follow.

ClockworkHare
10/04/22 5:48:51 PM

Keep in mind that her powers actually allow her to invoke characteristics of her namesake.

Most people on the planet (over 80%) are prone to allergic reactions to urushiol oil, the toxic element in poison ivy, poison oak, and poison sumac. The reactions can range from mild to anaphylaxis (ER time). The rashes from exposure can last more than a week along with additional difficulties depending on how much oil the person unwittingly spread all over their body. Some cases can include symptoms as worse as painful sores and debilitating eczema until treatment, which can take days to weeks without professional assistance.

Many people simply don't realize they have a common sensitivity to urushiol oil either due to living in a location where the plants don't exist or are far removed from heavily populated areas. The nasty, itchy, potentially blistering effect poison ivy can have is an intense allergic reaction to the oil itself. It's a natural defense mechanic of the plant. And it's very easy to spread the oil all over your body without noticing before it's too late.

The comic character can not only excrete the same oil from her pores, she can spread it throughout the air like spores. For some people she's a fantasy, for many more she's a fictional nightmare.

This is true, many of us did not.

We're also tired of watching America's cheesy media Pander-a-thon for cash grabs.
This movie may have not been that, but the point is it LOOKED like it from adverts, that's the problem.
Hollywood has overplayed the lazy diversity bait for $$$ and even those of us it's supposedly targeting are feeling burn-out.
We might bother to watch the flick for free in the future, but the advertising didn't really give us a solid reason to pay for it.

Besides we're not dying to see a movie about gay male life. We are gay male life.

I think having influences from both sexes makes for a healthier state of mind.

I agree.

However, I fully disagree to a requirement of "equal" influence from each to achieve a healthy ideal and successful performance within society. I find something like a goal of a "50/50" ratio to be unnecessary in most cases and a self-defeating constriction with others. Each individual human being is different; how much influence each would need to benefit would be just as relative.

It's why many institutional campaigns to push equal exposure fail hard in their results. Contrary to what screeching radicals want everyone to believe, many people (women AND men) are already operating on a healthy medium of both influences. Oversaturation of propaganda can threaten that....

Giblet_Enjoyer posted...
Have you been hit on a lot by women? The stereotype is that women really like going after gay guys >_>

Over time I have been approached by several women voicing interest, this includes fellow staff in nursing facilities. Not so much after I declared my orientation.

However, some women came to their own presumptions or straight up accused me of only claiming to be gay to avoid dating them. One of the workplace harassment cases I had to deal with was 2 coworkers jumping to that conclusion and being spiteful enough to falsely accuse me of sexually harassing them hoping to get me fired. And the HR board (4 women) was initially on their side by default, showing clear bias. It was a long awkward drawn-out series of meetings, but I persevered and won. The HR coven was so hardnosed in arguing me as the aggressor by mere accusation, I literally had to get one of my gay fuck buddies at the time to recount our sexual activity over vid chat to prove I was in fact a gay man (which was apparently a HUGE violation of my employee rights). Imagine if I was gay, but still in the closet without anyone to vouch for me. That happens.

The two coworkers still threatened additional action to get me terminated and I countered by threatening the HR board themselves with legal action for discrimination (risky emotional move, but paid off). Enough of the other women working at the facility supported me in their statements instead of the liars. The administrator herself also backed me and apparently called a former chair of the board to tell the others they were in deep shit if I could prove anything, especially over that facetime call (which was recorded).

I've been told I seriously could have sued the shit out of these clowns, but I'm no legal guru. I was exhausted. I really wanted to get the fiasco over with and move on with my career without marks against me. The two beasts who harassed me did NOT get fired, but they were at least pressured to quit. The other women made this pair of lying bitches work life so awful they bounced. Their falsifying was noted all the way up to the administrator and they couldn't drag anyone else into HR. Far as my boss was concerned, I was more valuable.

Events like these are why I view the despicably sexist Duluth narrative of "men always default aggressors, women always victims " as political horseshit and grift. I don't live in a country where that narrative is sensible let alone civil. I'm male and have been sexually harassed at the workplace on multiple instances (I'm tall, fit, employed in a field packed with single women). You don't have to look like Chris Hemsworth to get groped by desperate or bored women. I've witnessed female coworkers also endure similar harassment by surprisingly by other women. One of my former supervisors got canned because she harassed and groped a young female nursing student who didn't even have her certification yet. The student quit over the harassment, but was brave enough to at least report why. Coworker accounts matched what she said. Point is the culprit was a woman.

Like sorry not sorry, some women do bad shit too. ESPECIALLY in countries with campaigns for gender equality, as ironic as that sounds. That can include women in charge. Bad people are prone to abuse power, gender has little to do with it. Sorry for the length, this is cathartic.

This reads a lot like "Let bosses pressure women into sleeping with them".

Not just women.

There have been cases of male and female employees in the west being sexually harassed/exploited by female supervisors too. I know, I've been harassed by supervisors and coworkers while working as a man in a medical field predominantly women. It's not far fetched to imply for a male employee stuck in that situation it can feel similar to a woman working on a 90's construction site with just as little support. And modern HR is certainly not as helpful to male employees due to bias, while most male victims have a first experience after being falsely accused by their harasser (which happened to me). I won my case, but the ridiculous steps I had to take just to convince an HR board to practice professional parity spotlighted the fact that men working in certain fields DON'T have it easier dealing with workplace harassment either.

My saving grace is experience has shown that most of my coworkers have not been malevolent like that and would prefer it not happen at the workplace at all. Some honest friends have been there to prevent my harassers from framing me as the aggressor. I'm grateful for people with integrity, both men and women.

As a married gay man I don't have as many "opportunities" to mix the workplace with dating. And as a rule of thumb I prefer not to. To me it's always been oil and water. Having a zero tolerance policy on it would not be a loss for me. Although I could see how it would be a noticeable dent in heterosexual socializing. A lot of popular white collar and blue collar TV series would look dramatically obsolete with that simple political change.
