Haven't had much time to play today but I'm not willing to let the topic die just yet. I still can't entirely make up my mind about weapons since the switch axe while fun seems almost cheesy to me. So next up I'll try out the dual blades.

Btw, if I just started the high rank quests, how far away am I from getting that feather that unlocks the final shot for bows?

Dual Blades is even cheesier when you get used to it in my opinion. I have never managed to deal as much DPS with them as I have with Switchaxe, but Dual Blades is a much safer weapon. I'd say even when you factor in all the counters Sunbreak added, Dual Blades has the best defensive ability in the game that isn't tied to a shield. That would be one of its default silkbind moves, Shrouded Vault. You can totally nullify almost every attack in the game for the cost of a single wirebug. Not even Lance can do that without investing in Guard Up. Dual Blades also gets a number of moves that give you invincibility frames while you're in the air. I usually don't die when using Dual Blades unless I play really unsafe.

I mean that isn't a flaw though. The game's difficulty is designed around not getting hit. I'm pretty bad at it too, but I think it's great.

Sounds like you need to stop getting hit.

You can still refill your flasks in health shops. And ever since they reworked gold/the economy you always get enough gold to buy extra health while still having enough to buy weapons and skills every couple of biomes.

If it gets more people to experience Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga, that's good enough for me. But for me it doesn't seem worth it to get the Expansion Pack.

I've been looking a fair bit at Arrekz's videos. Yes they're long, but they're very thorough and structured. Sadly though he's only covered six weapons so far, and the switch axe is not among them. Now it doesn't seem like it's super complicated with the combos and stuff which I quite like. But we'll see today when I start tinkering around with it. For general purpose, is there a phial type that's just super good? Like, would I do a status ailments, exhaust, or just impact? Exhaust seemed nice but poison/paralysis also seem very very helpful for a sucker like me

There aren't many options with Poison and Paralysis phials unfortunately, so you're kind of limited with them. Exhaust Phials are great though. The best Exhaust Phial, Conqueress, is one I used very often in base Rise.

Power Phials and Element Phials are the most common though. The big difference is that Power Phials take a longer time to build up your amp gauge. Element and Exhaust Phials build up very quickly. So as far as the meta is concerned, Element Phials are considered the best for that reason along with how powerful elemental weapons are. But the other phials are fine too.

I like her new design even more.

I wish I could craft better weapons. All mine max out at like 120 and barely any blue blade color.
I need to settle on a plan and grind some stuff out I guess.

What point in the game are you at? Still doing Village quests or have you moved on the Hub? You'll start getting access to more weapons once you hit High Rank in the Hub.

Yeah I've been using that to finally clear out all the weapons I had on my wishlist still.

I'm thinking that once the story moves over to hub quests, I'll do the low level ones to practice a new weapon. Might as well, instead of blazing past them with license tests.

I dunno what's considered easy weapons though. Seems like every guide has its own opinions. I did start off with the long sword but that was before watching a guide, so I was really just messing around. Today I tried the insect glaive and it just didn't feel as good as I thought it would. I'm thinking of trying either switch axe or charge blade? I dunno they seem kinda interesting. And I like a lot the idea to have more ways than just dodge roll to avoid/block attacks.

Switchaxe has a lot of information to digest immediately, namely the two different gauges you want to pay attention to. But once you get the hang of it, it's a pretty simple weapon. I've never played Charge Blade, but I imagine it's the same deal. What weapon is easiest to use is ultimately subjective, but the one thing most MH players can agree on is that all weapons are good and viable against every single monster you will come across. So pick one that you think looks cool, learn it, and see if you enjoy it.

Bear in mind as well that the Sunbreak expansion also makes virtually all the weapons a lot better. So something that may not seem to work for you in base Rise might be more appealing if you end up playing Sunbreak.

Rampages are pretty awful solo. They're a little bit better in multiplayer though. I'm pretty sure there are only like two you're actually required to complete. Not entirely sure.

I found it off-putting at first too, but then I chalked it up to just not being used to Ganondorf having a voice (that isn't just grunting and evil laughter). If it is Matt Mercer, certainly his voice acting ability isn't in question.

Zootopia 2 sounds cool. I never watched Toy Story 4 or any of the Frozen movies, so I'm not as interested in those.

Yeah not really surprising. But I already buy Nintendo games for 60 dollars, so what's 10 more? I won't usually pay full price for any non-Nintendo game, so the price going up for those makes no difference to me either. Zelda is also the only AAA game coming out in the near future that I plan on buying day one anyway.

There already is an AI Vtuber that is decently popular on Twitch. Neuro-sama is the name. And she too received a 2 week ban last month for a comment about the Holocaust.

Well couldn't beat Risen Valstrax. I think that's the first monster in all of Rise and Sunbreak where I failed on the first attempt at fighting them. I even upgraded my armor, though even after that it's my lowest defense armor set in the game. -9 dragon resistance also didn't help.

Guess I'll have to try again tomorrow.

Velkhana was conveniently out of reach of most of my attacks. I was spamming Soaring Wyvern Blade because of that. Honestly though I think it felt kind of outclassed compared to all the stuff we already have in the game. It never really felt threatening.

The local theater I go to has 11 dollar matinees for all movies it seems. It never showed blockbusters though until it rebranded after shutting down for a while during the pandemic. I assume they're all still $11 like the rest of them.

Maybe, I don't really want to spend more than 20 dollars on it. So possibly when it's on sale at some point, but no guarantee.

Man, Scorned Magnamalo is a really fun fight to do with Lance. Caught me off guard because I thought it would be pretty tough, but it wasn't at all.

Dead Cells is the best roguelite and probably the best overall indie game I've ever played.

One thing I don't really get is most of the Buddy system. Like when it comes to hiring them and sending them on missions and stuff, but it seems like I can just ignore that stuff, so I am going to.

I am now about 12 hours in and while I can't really pinpoint any aspect of it that I love other than the general loop, this is all I wanna play in my free time. I'm addicted to it.

You're going to want to use The Argosy to get Herbs and Honey most likely. You'll burn through potions extremely fast if you haven't already. And collecting those materials yourself is pretty time-consuming. Stick all the Buddies you aren't using into the Buddy Dojo to level them up. They'll be more effective in both the Argosy and Meowcenaries that way. Also, above Buddy Plaza is an owl nest that gets an item added to it after you complete a hunt. It always has up to 5 items, so every 5 hunts you may want to check it. One of the items you usually get from the nest is a Lagniapple, which can be used for all the Buddy-related activities in the Plaza.

It's all kind of annoying, but you get used to it eventually. You can opt to never do Meowcenaries, but there are a couple items that are exclusively obtained through there.

So they're not powered up from their normal quest versions?

I assume they get whatever health and damage buffs that the afflicted monsters get in progressively higher leveled Investigations. Not sure what that means exactly though since they already have high health and hit hard.

Also, afflicted risen elders? I thought risen dragons were ones that overcame the virus. Are they reafflicted? Or only partially risen?

They're not afflicted, they're just appearing in Anomaly Investigations now. They are still anomalies after all, just a different kind. Just a means of getting to fight them on other maps for the most part.

Leaks said we'd get Velkhana and Risen Crimson Glow so there was no surprise in the stream I linked in 152, but I haven't looked at datamine stuff recently so I don't know how likely Amatsu is rn. Are there any leaks on what the "returning elder dragon" teased for next update is?

I assume it would be Amatsu, who is speculated to be the true final boss.

Anyway, no surprises this update at all, but I do think it's pretty lame how they're seemingly unable to figure out how to give Afflicted fights to Lucent Nargacuga and Violet Mizutsune.

Yeah No Time to Die makes Craig's run overall pretty good. It's just too bad QoS and Spectre are some of the worst Bond movies ever.

Good game for the Iron Knuckles to make their return I think. A slow but extremely resilient elite enemy to serve as a counterpart to the faster Lynels that should also return.

Seething Bazel's difficulty seems highly dependent on the weapon. I know for me he was by far the easiest monster added in the TUs. But I've only used Switchaxe and Dual Blades against him, and both weapons make it an extremely easy fight. The other weapon I use is Lance, and I have not tried it against Seething Bazel yet because it looks like one of the worst fights in the game for Lance.

Not one of my favorites, but still pretty fun. Richard Dawson was a good villain.

In addition, there is the Palamute ability on the Action Bar called Sniff 'em Out. I'm not 100% if sure this ability in base Rise, but I also don't know why it wouldn't be. When you use it, you can highlight the location of anything on the map that you want to find. This of course includes Spiribirds. And they stay marked on the map permanently until you want to turn it off. Very handy feature.

I find it pretty enjoyable and I mostly play solo. Rise is considered one of the easier games in the series. As of this moment between Rise and Sunbreak, there have not been any monsters that have been so tough that I felt like I needed help.

So is collecting those spirit birds the only way to reach the hp cap? Been struggling on elder dragons recently and the extra hp seems pretty mandatory. I don't want to have to farm for them each hunt though :(

Sunbreak at least adds a skill called Spiribird's Call. It's a 1 slot deco that gives you a random spiribird every few minutes. Combine that with the Absolute Petalace and Dango Bird Caller and you can get pretty close to max health without too much searching around.

For me, I just usually take a set path on each map that I know has some Spiribirds and endemic life that I want. It might waste a minute or two, but the paths I take are usually efficient enough so that you can quickly get to other zones when you're done collecting.

The Red Sox don't really have any unlikeable players like they used to. I guess Cora is the only one you could consider unlikeable because of his part in the Astros scandal. But it's not the same when it's a manager.

The Red Sox have won more many more World Series in the past two decades than the Yankees have. And 2018 is still pretty recent. So they've got that going for them. But right now they're an utter mess. The Yankees are always consistent, but just a bit too consistent at choking in the playoffs.

I think it's reasonable to assume it could be worse than BOTW just because they were developing through the pandemic. I'm not concerned about the lack of information. I think that's been deliberate. Even going into BOTW there was still a lot we didn't know.

Obviously it's the best Brosnan Bond movie by far. I know that's not saying much, but hey, Tomorrow Never Dies was good too at least.

Definitely within the Top 10 overall Bond movies, though probably just barely misses Top 5 for me.

He'd been quiet for so long you almost forgot just how much of a buffoon the guy is.

The Shining is my favorite. 11/22/63 is the one I would recommend the most to the average person.
