But I haven't watched the Simpsons in over a decade, and I avoid the news whenever possible. So I'm kind of surprised I did as well as I did. It was basically a coin flip for most of them.

Why don't people just quit twitter if they fucking care about sticking it to that jerkoff...

Because quitting means they forfeit any kind of benefits they might get. Being fired means they can still get things like unemployment.

EDIT: Also, wrongful termination lawsuits are definitely a thing. And there is definitely a case to be made for them in this situation. So putting up with it until Elon fires you means a potentially sizeable payout.

Timing. Id imagine a lot of people werent yet comfortable buying things online in 1998.

Less timing and more absolute negligent stupidity from the execs.

"Pets.com lacked a workable business plan and lost money on nearly every sale because, even before the cost of advertising, it was selling merchandise for approximately one-third the price it paid to obtain the products." - Wiki

EDIT: Also,

"Pets.com tried to build a customer base by offering discounts and free shipping, but it was impossible to turn a profit while absorbing the costs of shipping for heavy bags of cat litter and cans of pet food within a business field whose conventional profit margins are only two to four percent."

2-4% margins to start with, and that's with already established customer bases in brick-and-mortar stores at the time. There was literally zero chance their company was ever going to work.

Probably a waste of time

I don't know about that. Biden did just make a big push for it at a federal level a month ago. And with the Dems managing to control the senate after midterms, they might actually be able to get something done soon. Especially with the MORE Act already passing in the House in April.

I've been pretty pessimistic about marijuana legislation for a long time. But even I have to admit that the tide finally seems to be turning.

But if I'm going out to buy some new shirts for work, or general stuff like socks and undershirts, I pretty much always go to a physical store for them.

This will eventually lead into two scenarios: we come up with a solution that removes the space debris or we effectively lose out on ever meaningfully going to space due to being "locked" onto our planet due to the requirements of leaving it becoming to great.

This is kind of right, but also pretty wrong. Kessler syndrome is the runaway chain reaction of orbital debris crashing into other satellites, creating more debris, etc. It basically results in a shell of debris surrounding the planet at whatever orbital heights it occurred. But we absolutely DO NOT have Kessler Syndrome currently. It's just a potential disaster we need to be careful to avoid.

The biggest misconception that I hear about this all the time is that Kessler Syndrome will essentially mean we are "locked in" to Earth and unable to get back out into space until the debris in the shell gradually falls back down and burns up in the atmosphere. This couldn't be further from the truth. Kessler Syndrome only locks us out of using that particular orbital height. It's not a solid wall of debris circling the planet. Even with Kessler Syndrome, the debris shell is still mostly empty space, kind of like atoms. We could still punch through that shell and get into outer space or higher elevation orbits with relative ease. The amount of material that would need to be in that debris shell in order to actually lock us in is practically inconceivable.

Musk is an idiot and I really can't stand him personally.

.....but he's putting his money towards (mostly) the right things. Electric vehicles (less reliance on fossil fuels in general, really) and spaceflight are two of the most important advancements humanity can work towards. And he's bankrolling the leaders in both of those industries. So I think in the end he's been a net positive so far.

The only thing I can hope for in this situation is that the Russian people who are taking these kids in are not in Putin's pocket and are doing so in order to keep them safe until they can go home.

Realistically, there's probably like a 0.000000000001% chance of that. But...I mean, you gotta hope for something, right?

That is for a non electrical system, the pedaling is what actively raised and lowered the needle.

You believe they were using an entire wrought iron system as an on off switch?

The pedal is a speed control. Not the on-off switch.

I say this as the son of a man who's owned an upholstery business for over 50 years. I've seen a sewing machine or two. Many electric machines have the speed control on a floor pedal, because you're using both hands to manipulate the fabric.
