Well I do agree children's books should not have lewd and sexual content.

but is it really the government's job to police that content? why does the GOP care so much about "freedom" and "personal responsibility" in other instances, but feel the need to impose strong regulation on content in this case?

put a "rating" on the book, like we do with all other media, and let parents decide what's appropriate for their kids.

learned to drive / got your license.

when i was growing up in the 90s, it seemed like we all couldn't wait to get our driver's license and have our own transportation. but it seems like "kids these days" are less motivated to drive. my niece didn't get her license until she was 18, and her parents applied pressure for her to finally do it. i've noticed this with her friends as well.

i watched it out of obligation at first, but i completely lost interest and don't pay any attention to the brand anymore.

edit: i strongly suspect if any of this new content was identical in story / characters / writing but with a different skin that was not "Star Wars", people wouldn't care half as much. like, replace the "Empire" with a generic "big bad government entity" and "Blaster rifles" with "generic gun", and replaced all of the nostaliga inducing callbacks with new lore, etc., nobody would care.

But the head to head "I want it all" comparison is basically the same, cost-wise.

Pay $200 a month for "everything" on cable, or $200 a month by subscribing to 8 different streaming services.

sure, but the advantage to streaming is that, if i want, i can only have part of it and only pay part of the cost. with cable, every channel was lumped into one, giant package. or, at best, a "basic" option with like 30 channels, or "all 150+ channels".

now i can pick and choose which channels i want and only pay for those.

caffeine pills are one of the cheapest sources of caffeine. i think the only cheaper ones are, like, the super duper cheap coffee (ex: Walmart store brand).

the big difference is that you can pick and choose which streaming services you want and only pay for the ones you're actively using. vs cable, where it was "you get, and pay for, all 150 channels, even if you only care about two or three." the people who bitch and moan about the price being outrageous probably subscribe to every single one. every single month. how about you subscribe to one or two, watch some stuff you want to see, then cancel those and pick up a new service or two. rinse, repeat.

plants feel pain

the only ethical food is lab grown

i'll conceed your point that "plants feel pain" just for the sake of argument here. so, assuming that has merit, the scale of pain and suffering caused by growing and harvesting plants is considerably less than growing and harvesting from animals. at least the plant is a happy little plant until harvest time, unlike factory farmed animals which spend almost the entirety of their lives in pain and suffering. just because something isn't "100% ethical" does not mean it can't be "more ethical" than the alternatives, that's a poor argument.

no matter what we do or eat, there is bound to be some negative impact. simply transporting food causes environmental damage via pollution and a myriad of other negative side effects. we shouldn't strive for perfection because that's unrealistic, and just because we cannot achieve it does not mean we shouldn't try to be as best as we can.

this is like how people attack almond milk for being environmentally ineffective. yes, that's true, but it's significantly less damaging than cow milk. just because the impact isn't zero doesn't make it not worth doing.
