Haven't played in months. Beyond full time hours job, kids 3 and 1 years old, all my free time is spent reading for leisure or study. My new hobby is investing and macroeconomics. I find it more stimulating than video games or sports, my 2 previous hobbies. Stock market is honestly more entertaining than sports. It's like sports with thousands of teams.

The only asterisks on my last post is that I think the stock market is going to go to shit in '23, so personally I would hold cash for another 8-12 months before dumping everything into stocks/ETFs/index funds. But the strategy to hold and time the market is nlagaijst bogleheads strategy. But to me it just makes no sense to invest when clearly the economy is rolling down a hill with a cliff in sight.

My reasons for stock market crisis are all written out in detail in the stock market topic.

TC, go on Amazon and buy the book Bogleheads guide to investing. It's a quick read, you can get through it in 1 week tops. That will answer all of your questions.

Tldr: if you make less than 140k, make a Roth IRA and max it with 6k per year. If you make over that then read about backdoor Roth ira and do the same, 6k per year. Everything left over put it into a brokerage account, like vanguard or fidelity.

Now you'll have 3 investment accounts: 401k, Roth IRA (or backdoor Roth), and your brokerage account.

How you invest the money in each should be more or less the same: put it all into index funds that more or less match the S&P. Like SPY, VOO, etc. A slightly better strategy is to mix it up with S&P, some kind of entire stock market fund like VTI, and a small amount international stocks, small amount in emerging markets.

Bogleheads books will guide you on everything.

The data is somewhat flawed so I can't say that with as much confidence as the statement about red meat. But definitely think there's biologic plausibility. It just makes sense.

Honestly people need to start thinking about their careers early in HS, our society actually discourages this. As soon as 9th grade hits, kids should at the very least start thinking about what they like and exploring career options. That way in HS they can dip their feet in different fields to see what its like. So when they finish up HS they have a clearer picture on what they want to pursue. Society doesn't encourage you to decide until later in college and thats a complete waste of time. Thats why people graduate with useless degrees that they never use and end up wasting time and money switching around majors.

I started thinking in 9th grade - I had no idea. I thought about Law - I did speech and debate, took a law class - researched law school - decided it wasn't for me since I didn't like to write and I wasn't an efficient reader. I thought about software engineering, since I enjoyed HTML/javascript and making websites as a hobby - I took java, AP computer science, did a ton of learning on my own and made programs for fun. Decided debugging was literally the worst shit in the entire world and I rather poke needles into my eyeballs than debug. I very much enjoyed chemistry, took AP chem, it really clicked with me. Explored careers, went to different club meetings, ended up narrowing it down to some kind of biological science - either biochem research, teaching, medicine, pharmacy, etc something along those lines. Entered college on a biochem and molecular bio major - did more research, made connections, talked to people, joined different clubs, by my 2nd year I had it narrowed down to 2 or 3 careers, and by my 3rd year I was pretty much set. And in the "consideration" process you always factor in work-lifestyle balance and pay, along with years invested and whether I'd need a masters or doctorate and everything that would entail.

I'm making this post because when I got to college, I was amazed at how many people had no clue what they wanted to do, its like they never even thought about it. And even by the time I graduated, so many people graduated with me who had NO clue what they wanted to do. Thats a huge problem IMO. Thats how you end up with a useless degree and down hundreds of thousands of dollars. That money has officially been wasted rather than invested.

You have a point in all of what you said except less trashy neighbors

You'd be surprised how many low class, trashy, entitled, and whiny rich Karens I run into in those kind of neighborhoods when I used to deliver for Amazon

Yea, personality wise I would say its probably a negative. People are more uptight and more entitled. In a middle class neighborhood, people are more down to earth.

I recently lived in a lower-middle class neighborhood where theres always broken down cars parked on the street that haven't moved in years, a dude down the street put up purple neon lights around his garage, tends to be more littering around the neighborhood, just eyesores like that.

The trade off with this is, safer neighborhood, less trashy neighbors, more aesthetically pleasing neighborhood, nicer restaurants and stores nearby, better schools - so its an investment in your children.

In pulmonary clinic we have about 1000 patients in the queue waiting to be seen or scheduled. As we're seeing them, a LOT of these referrals do not need to be referred at all and we're noticing the vast majority of the BS ones come from mid-level providers. And there are alot that are inaccurately marked as "urgent"...most likely because they can tell their patient they are gonna do that so the patient feels like they're getting better taken care of. All this does is clog up the system so for patients who truly need a referral and need to be seen urgently, they are unable to do so because they get lost in the mumbo jumbo of BS "urgent" referrals. And these delays can have devastating consequences...I've seen referrals for "masses" several months later. That delay can up-stage cancers and worsen your prognosis by alot. Theres already strong data describing how mid-levels waste alot more resources than MDs. Again its a huge strain on the system.

Still gonna be a while.

House prices lag behind rising interest rates. By spring is when I'd guess house prices go to where they should be. Right now prices are still inflated. They peaked and are just starting to come down.

Once mortgage rates start coming down, prices might not actually reach their new equilibrium but start going back up. But mortgage rates won't come down until 10-year yields go way down and that won't come down until inflation is defeated and fed funds rate starts going down.

Seeing strippers irl is a better overall experience than watching porn on ur laptop.

It's just eye candy while u enjoy some drinks.

I don't generally care for strip clubs personally but on every bachelor party I've been on we've made it a point to go there early before we go to the club and it's been a fun experience every time.

Especially when the ugly dudes who never get attention suddenly get attention it's an artificial confidence booster for them.

I've tried multiple times but I just can't do audiobooks. Most of the time, I just can't focus that intently on them. My mind wanders for just a second and then I miss out on what's going on and have to rewind a bunch. Sometimes too, the narrators just annoy me. There was this one woman where she did the same gruff manly voice for every single male character, so some young adult male would sound exactly the same as some old dude.

I much prefer reading books, I can read at my own pace, stop and absorb when I need to without missing anything, and do my own voices for characters in my head.

I was the same until I found the right book. Found an amazing book that I really wanted to read, the narration was perfect, the writing style kept me engaged...it was a 30+hour book and once I was done with that, I could listen to others no problem.
