I've been playing Secret of Mana lately and the combat system is totally pissing me off. If an enemy attacks at the same time as you, it doesn't matter that you're level 70 and it's a level 1 rabbite, your attack is cancelled and nothing happens. Charged attacks are worthless because half the time your attack gets overridden by the enemy's attack. And don't even get me started on how enemies become invulnerable while they cast a spell.

If you take the payments, the lottery invests the money in bonds with varying maturity dates. Even if the lottery goes bankrupt (highly unlikely), the money is already invested so you'll still get the payout. And if you die, the annuity is transferred to your estate or specified beneficiary.

When I do the turkey, I cook it at a very high temperature (500F initially, then 350), but when the juices hit the hot pan, they start to burn and the kitchen quickly fills up with smoke. I figured out how to avoid this by putting vegetables (potatoes, carrots, and sweet onions) in the bottom of the pan and setting the turkey rack on top. The veggies soak up the juices, which also makes them taste absolutely amazing.

When I went to college I would always park in the back of the lot. Took only a few seconds, I could pull right in immediately. Everybody else would circle around in the front rows looking for a spot, and by the time I walked across the lot, they were still driving around trying to find a place.

When I make rice I make a whole bunch and put the extra in containers in the fridge. It'll keep for at least a week. Since rice has little flavor on it's own, you can use it as a base for all kinds of meals.

One thing I do sometimes is nuke one of those Stouffer's frozen meat pies then smoosh it up into a bowl of rice. Also good is rice, diced Spam, and Blue Top hatch garlic creamy hot sauce. Or rice, canned chicken (or pick up a rotisserie chicken from Costco, it'll keep in the fridge for up to a week), and some kind of Asian sauce (hoisin, teriyaki, etc) or barbecue sauce. Or rice, chicken, some Kirkland bacon bits (keeps practically forever in the fridge), and ranch dressing.

Costco has packets of Tasty Bite Madras lentils, cooks in 60 seconds in the microwave. They go great with naan, toasted tortillas, San Francisco-style sourdough, or over rice. They sometimes have other flavors like coconut dal or vegetable tikka masala.

I sometimes make chili cheese burritos. Heat up a can of your favorite chili, then put a frying pan on the stove and set the burner on maximum. Get the pan super hot, then put a flour tortilla in it. Flip it when it starts to bubble, then slide it off onto a plate. Spoon chili onto the first 1/3rd of the tortilla, sprinkle grated cheese over it, then roll up the burrito. Repeat until you run out of chili. The leftovers can be heated the next day in the microwave.

Winter used to be my favorite season when I lived in California. It was cool and rainy, and even though it was winter, it was always green.

After moving to Nebraska I have come to detest winter. It's cold and snowy, and everything is brown and gray.
