Tag. Thinking about doing a ranking like this myself.

My favorite game on the list so far is Dragon's Dogma. I don't remember the bosses/minibosses being particularly HP spongy, but I did run from a lot of them until later in the game. I should probably go back and beat FF1 at some point, but the last time I tried I got TPK'd by a random encounter in the ice cave before I even got a chance to take an action and that set me back like 45 minutes of progress. Immediate "fuck this game I'm playing something else" lol

Not if I can avoid it. They're almost as packed as the regular lines here, but much slower. If there's one open (and I'm not buying alcohol) I'll take it though.

What's your favorite game about a time loop? Mine's the US House of Representatives

If I had a nickel for every time the dancer in a Kaga game made me intensely uncomfortable, I'd have 2 nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it's happened twice.

Spyro and Xenosaga. I've already beaten the OG trilogy of both of these so unless I replay Spyro 1 I'm just gonna pass. Whoops!

Holmes is pretty great. I like Runan too but he's much more of a standard Roy-esque lord

I'm enjoying it plenty! I kinda feel like everything has already been said about games like Fates and FE7, so in a sense this is actually more interesting to me than those ones were.

Vestaria is such a mixed bag lol. I think the niche audience factor is huge, because it's definitely the kind of game about which you could say either "5/10, ugly, completely unpolished, and impossible to get into" or "9/10, interesting design choices and tons of heart make up for the shortcomings".

The set-up of "strong army will let you take out a mutual foe if you don't mess with them" is pretty solid, I think. The issue is that if you know what you're doing it's just scene dressing, not an actual component of the level that you do anything with. Seems like it would be better if the lower half of the map was interesting on its own merits.

...but then there's the whole thing with Mintz, which has always seemed pretty unacceptable to me.

The biggest change though is weapon mastery. Gone are weapon ranks, now it's tied to mastery, a stat that levels up like any other. If a weapon has a mastery level of 5, you need 5 mastery to use it, same for staves. Technically speaking, this means you could end up on a scenario where an endgame units can only use iron weapons! Again, not a matter of which way is better, just a fun new wrench. Also means your actual weapon use is completely irrelevant to leveling usability.

This is how FE1 works as well. I forget when they changed it, maybe in FE4? I kind of hate it!

It's also how it works in the default SRPG Studio engine because that really is just Kaga Emblem Maker, for better and for worse.

FYI, I'm not 100% positive about this because again, haven't played TearRing -- but I think certain units have to go with certain armies at the split in order to access certain events. For example I think Roger and Mel need to go with Holmes in order to get another unit from the place you got Narron earlier. Spoilers just in case, it isn't plot stuff. You may want to look all this up if you don't mind spoiling it because it's not intuitive.

Biden really needs to start bringing some "the court has made their ruling, now let us see the court enforce it" energy to his presidency.

Of course if 0 are caught the implication is the same. It's just an easy situation to use as ammo no matter what's actually happening at the moment.

I've also seen Guien Khaos and Gwenchaos, the latter of which is absolutely a rejected Dark Souls name. Incredibly dumb name regardless, so of course I kinda love it.

I've read an LP for TearRing and that's it.

This may sound stupid but I absolutely cannot keep all the similar looking characters straight and that killed a lot of my interest in wanting to play it myself (or trying to follow the story)

Yeah you might be! NKG took me about 4 hours to beat the first time (should have gone and upgraded more stuff first but was stubborn). Radiance I beat first try. Not even comparable for me.

Base Radiance definitely took me like twice as long to beat as NKG lol. Even on a replay where I breezed through pretty much everything else it probably took me 20 tries.

I have no idea how people find that fight easy haha

Yeah unless you care about funds rank, FE7 gives you almost too much money to even spend it all. I recruit Farina just for the hell of it even if I don't plan to use her.

If she showed up much earlier it might be a different matter. For how much money you'll have by end game, the first ~7 chapters can be rough. Shout-out to the time I forgot to get the first gem and had to pawn off Marcus' silver lance just to buy more iron weapons.

This game is pretty good. It's basically a character swapping puzzle platformer with more combat than is usual for those games, in a big interconnected world. Very metroidvania adjacent. Instead of trying to save the world, you're trying to find your family members and then escape from an apocalyptic threat, so it's got a bit more tension plot-wise than these kinds of games usually do.

Not perfect by any means but I enjoyed it a lot!

This is tough because a lot of them are really really bad, but Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer is a special kind of hell
