I used to be a legit Radeon fangirl in the 00's. Played Half-Life 2 on my Radeon X700 Pro. Then built a rig with a Radeon 4850 that could play Crysis at decent frame rates while people with top-end geForce cards struggled. But I won't deny that even back then they had some really serious driver issues and their unreliability was a real problem.
The Driver issues aren't really an issue in this day and age.

I don't really understand what AMD is doing on the GPU side of things. They can't treat the GPU market like they're competing with (pre-12th gen, at least) Intel. Nvidia is so far ahead of them in driver support and feature sets. They can't just shit out a card and say "Hey look it wins in rasterization benchmarks!" Yeah ok, too bad about that DLSS thing that makes games look better than native resolution and doubles the frame rate.
It's the lack of a financial War chest and rebuilding of the technology base to be competitive with nVIDIA at every level.

AMD still has work to be done on multiple fronts on the GPU side, but it's getting there.

They definitely have the efficiency crown for GPU's at the moment.

They need to work on their Video Encoder Quality & Compatibility.

DarkRoast posted...
That's the issue I have with how AMD and Nvidia seem to work lately.
AMD needed time to build up a financial War-Chest along with getting the people ready.

AMD tries to be developer and community friendly, and generally works open-source when possible. Whereas Nvidia is nothing but proprietary stuff.
True, that's nVIDIA modus operandi. Proprietary Everything, screw everybody else.

But a perfect example of AMD talking a good game better than walking one is FidelityFX SS. It looks like fucking ass. I get that it wasn't actually designed to be a competitor to DLSS but they deliberately marketed it like it was. Yeah, it's something any developer can easily use - because it's just a bad upscaler.
FSR 1.0 had only Spatial UpScaling

FSR 2.0 will have Temporal & Spatial UpScaling features

https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/fsr-2-complete-reboot-amd-upscaling-needed/

I know Intel is pushing pretty hard to get into the GPU space with the Arc lineup. Something tells me they're not gonna be competitive for a long time (if ever).
It's going to take Intel time to be competitive.

Just want to point out that PS3 emulation is still barely even functional on the most powerful PCs. The handful of titles that do work generally have workarounds that consolidate all of the individual core workloads into one process. But that only works occasionally.

It was such an obnoxiously complicated system for seemingly no good reason.
Why do you think Sony went to Mark Cerny & swapped over to x86 after PS3, there's a damn good reason for that; and it's because Sony kept making wierder & more archaic architectures as time moved on from PS1 -> PS2 -> PS3

Well sure, we should strive to be more direct with our language. But it's not up to you or me to determine what a word means to a group of people. I think it would be more offensive to say "OK, from now on you're called X" without any kind of input from those people, especially when their history is littered with times where they were no longer able to name themselves.
But the English Language definitely has specific meanings for certain words. Shouldn't we use a more accurate term / label?

Plus, there's the phrase "Indian American" which has its own clear and distinct meaning separate from "American Indian".
To many folks, they would be confused as to which refers to what.

I'm not an expert on language or American Indian culture. But let me offer this anecdote. I went to the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. Wisconsin is known for its many tribes (most of our cities are named after them), so there's a clear presence of people from all native backgrounds. My university has several multicultural centers, and they are exclusively staffed by and support the advancement of the different multicultural groups. And among them is the American Indian Student Center (AISC).

https://uwm.edu/aisc/

UWM is a very diverse and culturally responsive campus. If there was a more correct term to refer to the ancestors of the first peoples in Wisconsin/United States, don't you think they'd be using it?
I don't trust Universities to be accurate on "Labeling Things" on a socialogical level, since they have a tendency to be just as screwed up as any other source.

Especially since they keep reusing the term "Indian" when it's clear from history that the European Explorers screwed up that label when they were on a search for a Western route to "India" and just blindly labeled the Indigenous folks in the America's as "Indians".

Well sure, those are more specific, but ultimately we should call these groups what they want to be called. And in most political, legal, and cultural circumstances "American Indian" or just "Indian" are currently used by the people themselves and the US government.

If you ever watch or read content made by American Indians, you'll see they most often refer to themselves as Indian.
What about the Indians from India, especially since many of them live in North/Central/South America now.

We shouldn't propagate the misnomer/mislabeling of Indians just because the European Ancestors screwed it up by labeling the Indigenous people as "Indians".

Shouldn't we correct the terminology and use more accurate terms?

Indigenous Canadians would be a apt term for the Indigenous people living in Canada versus "First Nation".

Indigenous US Americans would be a apt term too.

Indigenous Mexicans would be a apt term for the Indigenous folks who reside in Mexico.

etc.

I disagree and think that your title does the opposite.

There are two continental Americas, and thousands of indigenous tribes have existed across that entire landmass. "Indigenous Americans" can refer to someone from Canada or Chile. American Indian is far more accurate in its meaning and use in modern language.
The term "American" by itself can refer to North American, Central American, or South American.

How about:
"Indigenous North Americans"
"Indigenous Central Americans"
"Indigenous South Americans"
?

Would have enough specificity?

Or should we get more specific than that?

People from India could potentially take offense if you call somebody Indian when they're not from India and mistake those who aren't Indian as Indians.

This is why the term "Indigenous <Insert Continent / Land Mass / Region / Country>" is more accurate of a label.

TL;DR
My platform "started" with (2019):

Ryzen 5 3600x
ASUS Prime x470-Pro
16GB DDR4 3000
Zotac RTX 2060

I'm now rocking:

Ryzen 7 5800x
ASUS Prime x570-Pro
16GB DDR4 3600
Asus RTX 3070 Ti

It started with RAM. I wanted faster RAM, so I bought G.Skill 16GB DDR4 3600 CL16. In the process of trying to make it work, my motherboard's VRMs crapped out. RMA'd it through the store that I bought it from (2 year warranty replacement) at the beginning of the pandemic. Went without for a month and a bit before I saw my computer again. They had to upgrade the motherboard because they couldn't get the x470 anymore. I got a free upgrade to an Asus Prime x570-Pro.

Other than a couple of m.2 NVMe drives, I stayed largely stable until this past Christmas, when I bought an EVGA 360 CLC AIO for $100 CAD (50% off) for Boxing Day. I bought this because it was an obvious upgrade over my Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo, and I eventually wanted to get a Zen 3 chip to get the most amount of life out of my AM4 platform.

This was at the start of March. I bought a R7 5800x for $440 CAD (thanks to a government rebate cheque for paying for almost all of it), got it price-matched down to $400+tax, then sold my 3600x for $250 CAD. Now I just bought an Asus TUF RTX 3070 Ti when it was _just_ in stock for $900. They've charged me for it already, and the card is now out of stock. I'm selling my Zotac 2060 to my roommate for $300.

Not bad, if you came state-side to MicroCenter, you might be able to buy a 5950X for $550 USD.

WATER POLLUTION IN CHINA

River like blood in Roxian, Guangxi About one third of the industrial waste water and more than 90 percent of household sewage in China is released into rivers and lakes without being treated. Nearly 80 percent of China's cities (278 of them) have no sewage treatment facilities and few have plans to build any and underground water supplies in 90 percent of the cites are contaminated.
Water shortages and water pollution in China are such a problem that the World Bank warns of catastrophic consequences for future generations. Half of Chinas population lacks safe drinking water. Nearly two thirds of Chinas rural population more than 500 million people use water contaminated by human and industrial waste.

In Yale University's 2012 Environmental Performance Index, China is one of the worst performers (ranked 116 out of 132 countries) with respect to its performance on changes in water quantity due to consumption, including industrial, agricultural, and household uses. Jonathan Kaiman wrote in The Guardian, The head of China's ministry of water resources said in 2012 that up to 40 percent of the country's rivers are "seriously polluted", and an official report from the summer od 2012 found that up to 200 million rural Chinese have no access to clean drinking water. China's lakes are often affected by pollution-induced algae blooms, causing the surface of the water to turn a bright iridescent green. Yet even greater threats may lurk underground. A recent government study found that groundwater in 90 percent of China's cities is contaminated, most of it severely. [Source: Jonathan Kaiman, The Guardian, February 21, 2013]

In summer of 2011, the China government reported 43 percent of state-monitored rivers are so polluted, they're unsuitable for human contact. By one estimate one sixth of Chinas population is threatened by seriously polluted water. One study found that eight of 10 Chinese coastal cities discharge excessive amounts of sewage and pollutants into the sea, often near coastal resorts and sea farming areas. Water pollution is especially bad along the coastal manufacturing belt. Despite the closure of thousands of paper mills, breweries, chemical factories and other potential sources of contamination, the water quality along a third of the waterway falls far below even the modest standards that the government requires. Most of Chinas rural areas have no system in place to treat waste water.

A study by Chinas Environmental Protection Agency in February 2010 said that water pollution levels were double what the government predicted them to be mainly because agricultural waste was ignored. Chinas first pollution census in 2010 revealed farm fertilizer was a bigger source of water contamination than factory effluent.

Water consumed by people in China contains dangerous levels of arsenic, fluorine and sulfates. An estimated 980 million of Chinas 1.3 billion people drink water every day that is partly polluted. More than 600 million Chinese drink water contaminated with human or animal wastes and 20 million people drink well water contaminated with high levels of radiation. A large number of arsenic-tainted water have been discovered. Chinas high rates of liver, stomach and esophageal cancer have been linked to water pollution.

Water pollution and shortages are a more serious problem in northern China than southern China. The percentage of water considered unfit for human consumption is 45 percent in northern China, compared to 10 percent in southern China. Some 80 percent of the rivers in the northern province of Shanxi have been rated unfit for human contact.

A poll conducted by the Pew Research Center before the 2008 Olympics found that 68 percent of the Chinese interviewed said they were concerned about water pollution.

You mean like multiple people were doing? All night? To many others? Which is pretty standard for these award shows?

It is not an excuse for assault, and suggesting otherwise is asinine
I disagree, and so does Will.

Not everybody finds jokes that poke fun at a person's "Physical Health", to be funny.

And a "Bitch Slap" across the face is hardly what I call "Assault".

You must be over sensitive if you can't take a physical hit for making a mistake.

It is unhinged thinking to suggest that joke deserved assault on an international broadcast
You would be thinking very differently if somebody else was embarassing YOU in front of millions and your significant other defended your honor and bitch slapped the hell out of them.
