13 combat is honestly some of my favourite combat in a game, but it takes literally ten+ hours before you're doing more than autokilling everything, and it's not super intuitive how it works.

Iirc the commando stops the stagger bar from falling while the ravager increases it, so you typically want three ravagers and then switch one to a commando if the bar starts to fall. And then you apply buffs, debuffs, heals and tanks depending on the fight.

The commando does more damage so switch to more commandos once they're actually staggered.

Don't bother assigning people individual actions. Just focus on class switching.

And I could never figure out how to effectively use summons. I mostly just used them as a free party heal that did a small amount of damage.

On topic, I think violent video games probably lower violence in society. Most people need a release for stuff going on in their lives. And sometimes that release is shooting people on CoD or kicking someone ass in Soul Caliber or something. Honestly those "rage gamers" probably would be in jail if they didn't direct those emotions towards their games.

This seems like an unhealthy view of things? Our fathers and grandfather's did not need to brutalize fictional people to avoid jailtime. They just beat their wives.

They're not the same thing. Battle sisters have existed for a long time, though largely as more of a fetish curiosity than as a serious army. They got revamped into a new model line a few years ago.

Battle sisters are nuns with high tech armor/weapons. Space marines are humans implanted with demigod DNA.

There are still no girl space Marines.

The Imperium of Man in Warhammer 40k is essentially space Nazi Germany.

As the lore developed (gradually, over decades) the iconography remained but the Imperium was gradually presented as less obviously evil (and it was always presented as the lesser of various evils). This makes it easier for people to latch onto.

Additionally, wargaming has always been very, very white male dominated. It makes a video game convention look like the UN. This has for the longest time been reflected in the lore. Space Marines, even now, are almost exclusively white men.

On a final note, Warhammer is very popular in countries with large white nationalist movements. I don't know which came first, its a bit of a chicken egg situation.

The idea that these shooters fall under the typical scope of mental illness is largely bunk. Shooters often aren't diagnosed with any mental illnesses, and when they are, these illnesses aren't usually typified by mass violence.

I decided to leave the edge highlighting for now; ill try on a solid blue space marine, not one ive done detail on.

took the plunge on basing today too. I have a small container of astrogranite and i used that for my necrons. looks good, just need to paint it.

should i apply a wash first, before dry brushing? the tutorial i found just uses astrogranite and then 2x dry brushes to get a really good moon-like terrain base. that's my plan, but kinda thinking i should do a wash first...

Generally people drybrush after but it depends on the effect youre looking for. If you wash afterwards, it will tone down the drybrush and make it look a bit more cohesive, but a drybrush is ideally very subtle regardless.

Also if you wash afterwards make sure you give the drybrush ample time to dry or it could start to run when you wash it.

Whether or not you wash it at all depends on you. I'd recommend giving it a dry and seeing if you like it or not.

Edge highlighting is difficult. I do lots of fairly chunky edges and go back to clean it afterwards and it looks ok.

You will never get edge highlights looking like the box art. They tell you the box art is "base, wash, highlight", but they do significantly more work than that.

When it comes to basing, keep in mind Games Workshop brand basing is expensive. You can buy basing textures from other brands, and then paint it afterwards. You should be basing, shading and drybrushing the base like you would with the mini, to add depth.

Just watch what you want. You cant ask a sub vs dub question without having weebs flooding in just to talk shit about dubs in general. Notice how the first reply only says bad things about the dub, but nothing good about subs. For something supposedly so superior, they sure do love having to keep telling people it is.

I just watched a movie about nuns giving each other oral called Benedetta. I watched it in the original French, because I'm not gonna watch nuns having sex while an American woman who gave up on her acting career talks over them and pretends to be part of the movie.

This is basic science. Watching a dub is like watching a special edition Star Wars film, you're just watching the original with extra shit strewn on afterwards

Unless there's a really specific reason you can't read subtitles (like you watch shows while doing something else), there are near zero instances where the dub is better. Good english voice actors don't generally do anime dubs, and rewriting sentences from English to Japanese while keeping the same meaning/tone can never be done naturally 100% of the time. You'll always have translations that just don't land.

Yes I know there's an urban legend that the Cowboy Bebop director prefers the dub, guess what, the sub for Cowboy Bebop is better too.

Also Konosuba is quite good, but you might need to adjust your expectations for it depending on your preconceptions going on. The artstyle is in some aspects deliberately ugly, I think it has a lot of thought put into even it's more bizarre aspects. The movie that came out a few years ago is very good for anyone who missed it.

So enemies can come back from the dead and NPCs can teleport around the map like moles but elevators can't move on their own, something which they already do in real life

I finally got around to watching it and it's...not very good.

Given how No Way Home absolutely shattered my expectations this was a big disappointment.

And I know people eat up scenes like this, but I despised how they had an invincible style scene with Wanda killing off the alternate universe avengers. These are fucking kids movies. Especially since one of these characters is going to be starring in a film in a few years, seeing him die violently in this film for shock value is huge disservice of an intro.

Wanda's acting was phenomenal it sucks what happened to her character.

It's about making the levelling process feel rewarding. Especially in games where the gap between levels is very minor and gradual, receiving an immediate tangible reward for levelling up makes progress more engaging.

I am not letting my youngest anywhere near an HD tv until he's old enough to drink

I'm letting my older child play all the newest video games (just got him a PS5 and new Xbox for his birthday), while my younger son isn't allowed to play anything that came out after 1993 (when he's 13 I'm going to let him play games up until the GameCube if I can borrow my brother's old one).

I think this will help them both remain humbled and well rounded, and they'll be able to play off and help each other with life's challenges.
