I have no interest in getting either right now. Xbox hasn't been worth it to me since the 360. I would like to have a PS5 one day, but I'm waiting for the inevitable revision where I'll either buy that or the discounted old model. No way am I paying $500 for one when my PS4 still works perfectly fine and there aren't any PS5 games that I want to play.

I did have a PS5 for a while because my ex bought one. I don't know if I ever played any PS5 games on it though.

It was my final semester of college and I had to confront the boogeyman I'd put off for my entire college career: Microbiology. I knew I couldn't handle that (plus all my other classes) and working, so I took a leave of absence. My boss was super cool about it though; she told me that I could have my job back once classes were over.

So, I graduated (got an A in Micro for good measure and overall magna cum laude) and I fully planned to go back, work for a few months, and look for a post-college job in the meantime. I figured it would take four, five months tops to find something even if it was just doing grunt work in a corporate lab for $10/hr.

Then about... two weeks after graduation my wife* demanded that we immediately move closer to her work. So, I did. Figured, "Okay, I was probably going to find a job here anyway." Funny thing is that because I didn't go back to work, I had a six month gap in my employment at that point. Right now, in 2022, that's not the end of the world. This was 2015 though and it proved to be impossible to find anything. I couldn't even get McDonald's to give me a call back. A six month gap turned into year, into two, and eventually I found myself six and a half years post college with zero employment in the meantime. Did some tremendously shitty things to my mental health. I was also financially abused the entire time.

I'm getting out from under it now though. I got a lucky break and got a job that pays decently. No one controls me anymore. I will never quit a job without an immediate replacement nor will I let anyone sweet talk me into giving up a job because they'll pay for everything. I'll put up with any bullshit from a job if it means financial freedom.

Yup. I had a job that involved being in an office and it made me physically ill to be there. The lights, the noise (of people, of the printer, of phones going off constantly), and just being trapped there.

I started working from home and my productivity shot through the roof. I'm also fortunate that my job doesn't micromanage the remote work; I had an offer from a place that was going to constantly monitor me through a webcam and I wouldn't have been allowed to even drink water or get up for the entirety of my eight hour shift.

NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL

What teams are you a fan of in those leagues?
I'm not a sports fan at all. Being from Alabama, I know a few eternally-suffering Titans fans though. Growing up, my father (an Illinois native) was naturally super into the Bulls (as everyone seemed to be in the 90s) and I absorbed a lot of that. Haven't watched an NBA game in like two decades though.

I genuinely hate baseball because of bad little league memories, but that's just me. I have a friend who desperately wants to get me into hockey, but I have no idea which team I'd follow if I did. I did go to a Nashville Predators game once in the mid 2000s. I hope they still play that goofy country song when they score.

I used to be really into college football. Kinda lost interest after graduating college myself and then felt supremely weird about the idea of being that enthusiastic about the athletic program of a school I didn't even go to (though, unlike a majority of Alabama fans, I did actually get in to the university). College ball was interesting because you'd see the absolute freaks who would dominate everyone else. The NFL then takes all the super good dudes and no one stands out (to me, at least). I also kinda feel immoral watching football knowing what it does to the players' bodies.

And again, the ugly capitalist idea of only people who work "full-time" being worthy of a luxury such as "not spending hours shopping for necessities in their free time" pops up.

Champion that idea of the store workers being compensated; don't hate on the fellow man using the pick-up option.

That's the weird thing about all of this: she's the one who wanted to get divorced. Unfortunately for me, the fee just to file the paperwork for an uncontested divorce is well over $300 and I absolutely do not have that kind of disposable income right now. Hence why I'm sitting still married to her.

As to why she, who literally makes about quadruple what I do, hasn't filed yet... I have no idea. She's the one who moaned about how she hated being married to someone she didn't love. The cynic in me is convinced this is some kind of backdoor into trying to sweet talk her way back into my life if her current thing ever falls through. I don't want that, but it's what happened last time. It's sort of what happened this time too: she came home one day, announced she wanted to split, and just left for like two weeks. Started moving her stuff out. Then she told me she still loved me and wished we could be together and that she didn't want me to move out. Literally three days later she was dating someone new.

I cried plenty. As awful as she is, I still loved her. I genuinely thought she was the prettiest girl in the whole wide world. My heart ached from how strongly I felt about her, even a decade in. The things she did/said when she cheated absolutely killed me.

I've really enjoyed the freedom of not having to deal with her. It's so obvious in hindsight that she was the abusive one. I wasn't perfect, of course, but no one is. I did my best and I know that now.

Shit might be really bad now but you can get through this and there is still hope.

You may not know or believe it yet but this whole thing was a giant red pill. Prepare for a divorce now by getting all your assets together and talking to an attorney. Do NOT keep any attorney that will not fight for you, a lot of these dead beats will tell you to fall on your sword for her or to let her have shit she should not or advise you dont fight her on this.
It's pretty hilarious how off the mark you are. She has a high paying job making infinitely more than I do. I did keep a lot of the shit that she tried to take though

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

This is all assuming I can afford a lawyer. I'm making enough to stay afloat for now, but that's about it.

Learned that the hard way. She begged, literally begged, for a second chance. Sobbed about how she had been out of her mind and that I was the best thing that had ever happened to her. It was stupid of me to give her that second chance. I genuinely wanted to believe that it had all just been a lapse in judgment and that she would be better from then on.

Funny thing about that "just jumping in" bit... I had been with her for a decade. It was specifically our tenth anniversary when we got married. We'd put it off for years for financial reasons, but she wanted to get married once we got back together. I remember asking if she was certain and she swore up and down that she was.

Of course, now, she's extremely adamant that I "forced" her to marry me. It was her idea. I was even getting cold feet the day of, but she was so insistent that I went through with it.

Some people use this kind of stuff as an excuse to air out their weird bigotry. Just to be completely factual: my ex is transgender. I genuinely have no idea how I would label my sexuality at this point. I'm like 99% attracted to girls, but I dated her before her transition and she had 100% of my support during it. I remember telling my mother, to her face, "If you have a problem with this, that's your problem. I love her and I will stand by her."

I was thrilled when almost all of my family was 100% supportive. My octogenarian grandmother instantly took to using my ex's new pronouns and her new name (though she mispronounced it a lot). My mother gave her a ton of girly clothes and purses. My aunts adapted. Keep in mind most of these are very traditional, Southern folks. Almost all of our friends (mutual and hers) were supportive too.

Yeah, guess how many of them revealed that they weren't supportive at all. Some of them are outright transphobic. I genuinely can't repeat some of what I've had said to me about my ex because it would be a ToS violation. And people feel comfortable saying this stuff to me, because I must feel that way since she did me dirty. It's just made me feel more alone, realizing how hateful everyone is.

Wow that sucks. Sorry to hear you had to deal with all of that. And yeah, there's always a ton of victim blaming with cheating for some reason. I got cheated on and I had several people saying that it was something I did that caused it. Ignore those people. She was the one who made bad decisions.

And hey, don't give up hope just yet. I'm sure there's someone out there that won't make you regret letting them in.
It's not just the cheating. She would scream at me. Blame me for things that were her fault. She controlled pretty much everything about our lives: the money, the car, the apartment, and she held it over me. She would scream at me that I wasn't mentally stable enough to hold down a job and take care of myself and that I was an idiot for wanting to work when she made enough to take care of everything.

I've had close friends try to tell me shit like, "Oh, you just grew apart," or even, "Well, it was your fault too because [x]" where the SAME PERSON has said that it was both because I tried to control my ex and because I didn't try hard enough to control her. "Controlling" her, btw, usually meant trying to get her to not splurge hundreds on her hobbies to the point that we couldn't pay rent.

You ever try to open up to someone, who you thought was your close friend, about the abuse you've been put through and all they say is, "I'm not going to get involved in your drama," or, "You caused this,"? I can't do it again. She broke me. I'm alive. I'm as okay as I can be, but I will never be even close to the same as the person I used to be. I won't let anyone ever do that to me again.

I am married. I've currently been separated from my wife for longer than we were married (roughly three months).

I... wouldn't recommend it. Maybe it's just because I married a woman who cheated on me, begged me to give her a second chance (when her affair collapsed), and then lost her mind (accused me of abusing and manipulating her while she was the abuser) in a haze of drugs and debauchery. I haven't talked to her in about a month and a half. She stiffed me on about $300 she owed me.

The really fun part of it all has been my friends saying that this is my fault too. Love the victim blaming. Definitely doesn't make me want to completely cut off everyone I know and just live like a hermit for the rest of my life.

I probably won't ever get married again. I'm reasonably attractive, smart, have an okay job, and am fun to be around, so it's not like I couldn't get someone. I won't ever let anyone in like that again though. Not worth it. Can't imagine a world where it is worth it for anyone.

I would cry if they made me come back in because there is absolutely no reason that my job needs to be done in an office and it would just cost me money.

I already pre-ordered Rune Factory 5 because it's the kind of game that's hard to find in stores. I'm in the process of moving and separated from my Switch by about two hundred miles, so I'll wait for a while to buy Kirby. Gonna get Stranger of Paradise once it goes down in price.
