Not really, they introduce multiple enemy types that can't be countered by regular means. Plus if you just mash Y even the easiest encounters would take an eternity.

I love 3, Vice City, and San Andreas.

4 and 5 are fine but never quite captured the fun of the PS2 trilogy IMO
