Well, I started playing it. I did the tutorial / opening, that sidequest involving going to the scrounger nest to get a replacement grill, and started the tutorials on that board game minigame (looks interesting).

I'm pretty impressed so far. In particular, I really want to commend it on keeping the control scheme very consistent with the first; few things are more annoying than when a sequel completely overhauls the controls IMO.

Imagine that becoming the straw that broke the camel's back.

(Just in case, mods, the above is a figure of speech and I am not suggesting anyone breaks the back of any literal camels.)

Yeah. He's technically right on the linguistics stuff, but holy fuck does he make it out to be a bigger deal than it really is for anywhere outside of linguistics study.

For defending one's own country yes; for invading another (even if 100% justified) no.

I do have concerns that in the name of tolerance people will be pushed in directions that aren't where they'd arrive on their own.

I could certainly see some kinds of people asking a tomboy if they "felt like a boy", and for any child that isn't going to be the clearest question. So IMO the space to express yourself in whatever way happens on its own is going to be healthier than one that promotes any particular answer. If you are trans you should be accepted, but also if you are a tomboy you should also be accepted, you should not be met with several "are you sure?" questions nor should you be treated as less special or good than the transperson.

Inclusivity is good, but in celebrating diversity and tolerance we can glorify the atypical and suggest the typical are less-than. And no child, male/female/trans/etc should feel less than.

One of my teachers in primary school asked me if I "wanted to be a girl" when she noticed everyone I'd invited to my birthday party was a girl. Something I myself had not realised until she pointed it out tbh. I just kind of thought "that's a weird question", answered no, and pretty much never thought about that again until this post reminded me.

Not really sure that there's any point here beyond "this post reminded me of something that happened".

And yes, sure, you'll be able to find people who don't like Japan. I'm not remotely saying "everyone loves Japan". But, they aren't seen remotely the same way China is, despite being comparable in terms of your theory.

He would've likely gone down as an average dickhead head of state, the kind that there's dozens of (if not hundreds) throughout history, had it not been for this. Hm, Japan has a very strong economy too - stronger than any other "white" country that China also are stronger than - and yet doesn't seem to see the same "prejudice" as China.

Can anyone think of what the difference might be? Perhaps something to do with Japan not having literal fucking concentration camps, maybe? Or something like that?

Yes. And it is completely possible to criticize them for that and praise them for halting sales in Russia, at the same time.

I kinda feel like there's a difference between "skip the entire damn game by invoking something that jumps directly to the credits" vs using something like, say, the "impossible bullet" glitch in Commander Keen 6.

Not that I care about Putin being made of, BUT this does remind me of Shrek. That movie was all about how people shouldn't be judged by appearance, and yet they mercilessly make fun of Farquaad's height.

The moral of the story is "don't judge someone by appearance unless they're a bad guy". The Trump and Putin jokes are said moral being put into action.

Simple explanation for that one. Average Russian citizens are not a hivemind. Therefore, they will not all think the same thing.

I'm sure no reasonable person blames them for what's happening, but ultimately, let's keep some perspective. Some discomfort for the average Russian citizen, as collateral damage of efforts against the Russian government and other powerful figures; is nothing compared to what the citizens of Ukraine are experiencing at the hands of the direct intended targets of the measures the rest of the world is taking against Russia here.

(Just in case, at the time of writing this message, the "measures the rest of the world is taking" were sanctions and diplomatic action; not any kind of violence.)
