I've been seeing those headlines for years. They always do studies on it.

Basically they think that if you have mild or moderate depression SSRI's are no better than placebos. If you have severe or worse depression they may help.

I'm not a doctor but I think that they don't even know what causes depression. A study 50 or so years ago said they think it might be because of serotonin. Since then a lot research and drugs have been assuming that the cause of depression is serotonin. Here's the thing, they aren't sure if they are right. It's just the current prevailing theory.

So again, not a doctor, but is the study actually saying SSRIs don't work at all? Or is it saying "hey maybe Serotonin wasn't the problem. It may help some people but it may hurt even more. Maybe we need to fund more research into potential causes of depression."

I loved it too. I feel like they painted themselves into a corner with all the mysteries and all of that stuff and it made some of the later stuff weaker. But the ending was fine (if you still say they were dead the whole time you are wrong) and overall it was a great show.

The scene with Keamy, Alex, and Ben still make me have a bro tear.

Yeah it says she has to give notice. No scheduled repairs or anything. She never does inspections or anything like that in the 5 years I've been here. I've got cameras set up and have never noticed anything moved or missing

I didn't even notice you had this listed. I saw Don't Tell Mom The Babysitters Dead. My Boyfriend's back is a favorite from my childhood. Loved that movie. I even bought a blu-ray copy a few years ago. I NEVER see anyone talking about this movie.

Generally speaking:
-If an emergency repair needs done / there is an emergency in the apartment (like a fire) the landlord can come in with no prior notice.
-If there isn't an emergency then they typically are required to give you 24 hours notice (I believe this includes maintenance guys showing up for non-emergency repairs as well) This is also if the landlord wants to do an inspection or something.

This is all state by state but it's the general rules for most states. Some states the 24 hour number is higher or lower. There might even be a state where no notice is required at all.

I would also check your lease to see what it says about them needing to give 24 hours notice.

Yeah, all the answers are what I was thinking. I thought "get a shot for a cold?", and figured it was a waste of time and money, even if that was a thing.

I'm not a doctor but I wouldn't be surprised if there is something you can actually get a shot of to counteract the "sick" feeling from a cold. Like something to give you pep for the day. You'll never actually get it done because that would be overkill.

I'm pretty sure, but not 100 percent, that it's been mentioned and talked about at the hearing. If it hasn't, it has been something that's been floating on the outskirts for a while (like this article being written in April)

As long as you are sure your cold isn't actually covid. Especially since you're going to AEW Dynamite tonight (total guess) If you go to urgent care with with the flu which is worse than a cold they won't even do shit unless you're seriously sick.

Pop a Sudafed if it won't knock you out while you're driving, make sure it isn't Covid, get there in plenty of time for the merch table, and enjoy the show.

Even if you don't game on your phone the bill is probably 60-100 bucks a month right off the bat. I don't buy a new game a month to make up for that on Steam/PS5/Xbox and I would imagine a lot of other people don't either. If you bought the console this year it makes sense to have a console higher but otherwise I'm surprised phones aren't 1 or 2.

Agreed. It's why I feel like this could have been a totally different show, and maybe even good, if the writing was consistently improved. It's like that movie She's All That. (Or the play/novel it's based on) You can see Laney (This show) is possibly cute under there but it would take a lot of work to make it beautiful.

100 percent. This is a few weeks ago at an Amish Outlaws concert in PA. Not a band I've ever heard of but I can't imagine they need overwatch security like this.

Ever read / hear of the old novelizations of the games? I think they were by an author named SD Perry. Imagine them bringing those into the show as well.

The tone is really all over the place too. In some places it wants to take itself seriously like Walking Dead but in others it's as campy as Z-Nation. They aren't doing a good job of pulling off both.

Agreed. It's kind of messy now and maybe they will clean it up some. I vaguely touched on it when I mentioned something about the fall of OG RC and how were they still allowed to exist as a company. But even then, you're right, the timeline is sloppy too.

I see what they are trying to do and I appreciate it. Maybe if the writing is stronger this should could have been better.

Okay maybe not AMAZING. But as a fan of the series since almost day 1 it's entertaining to watch.

I have no spoilers marked below. There are spoilers for all 8 episodes of the show and for the complete series of Resident Evil games.

I know, another Resident Evil topic. As I was finishing it yesterday I just kept noticing all of these things and I had this really strong urge to start making notes about everything. I didn't, but I may go back and watch it. This show, like no other show I have seen, has confused me on what I think about it.

The Bad:

The writing is atrocious in some spots. Like almost dog shit bad. But then there's some scenes where they do an amazing job. The dialogue is good, the emotions they want us to feel come across, the scene is shot well, etc. I'm making up a ratio here but it feels like the writers were mandated to write 4 bad scenes for every 1 good scene.

Wesker is good at moments and bad at moments. The very beginning scene of episode 7 where they reveal all the clones.... When that scene finished around the 4 minute mark I texted my buddies and told them that that may have been the worst 4 minutes of a TV show I've seen ever. The acting was so fucking weird. The context for it was so weird (as in they could have revealed the clones a better way. When Lance Reddick showed up in that knockoff blade costume I lost it. He looked so unbelievably bad. The reveal that OG Wesker had the superpowers was fine but again, it looked bad. He just kind of.... punched quicker or something.

There were characters in this show that served no real purpose. Was that one dude from Umbrella (the chunky guy in the suit) actually supposed to do anything? He had some funny jokes, and some of his scenes were decent but in the end he really didn't have a reason to have existed besides to tell Jade that her sister was still alive. Also it was weird how she was told that, and then the next episode when she actually shows up Jade is somehow surprised. Like you were just told this.

There are some things they could have changed around the order to in the episodes to make the impact better. Showing us a baby alligator and saying "imagine what we could do with bigger ones" while you demonstrate the ability to turn it off and turn it on is cool, but imagine if they showed a fish instead or some other creature. Imagine they showed this at the beginning of an earlier episode, like 4 or 5. Imagine they didn't show the alligator under the ship at the end of episode 7 / beginning of episode 8. We knew the ship was towing something behind it but IIRC the shape was kind of vague. So now, it's time for the big reveal. The whole "should we push the button" thing you're not sitting there knowing they are talking about the alligator. You vaguely forgot that 4 episodes earlier there was a small scene about being able to control some animals. They decide to push the button and then the alligator appears. That would be way cooler as a fan of the games then blowing their load on it an episode or two early and just having us sit waiting for something to happen with it.

They somehow managed to turn the gameplay of exploring an old mansion/police station/lab and finding keys and clues and backtracking to use those items into the whole setting for an episode. The episode where they find the dad's email and he talks about a hidden bag is just that. Kind of interesting, but totally as boring as I thought it would be.

The Good (and what keeps me watching):

The way they are tying these into the games is amazing. I have always been a fan of RE3 and I even imported the soundtrack because I thought the music, ESPECIALLY the ending music was awesome. (Link to RE3 ending) The whole news report thing? Awesome.

But the moment I heard the mention that old Raccoon City was nuked I was kind of hooked. I was thinking it was a cool nod to RE3. Then later they say OG Wesker fell in a Volcano and I kind of realized that this show is basically a sequel to the games which is crazy. I didn't really see that coming. It's cool. I loved it. It makes me curious which games are part of the show. Obviously 3, and probably 2. Did I remember a conversation about a tape of something that happened in Barcelona or something? Didn't 4 take place in Spain? 5 for sure with the volcano thing. Do we go up to 8? Will Ethan make an appearance? Werewolves?

The other thing that I enjoyed is this show is FULL of callbacks to the games. Within a few minutes in one episode we had:
Chainsaw dude with a burlap sack on his head
A wooden crate being crushed and out pops a grenade that Jade can use
Her opening a locker and taking out a bag to better manage her inventory
and a master of unlocking reference (when he didn't actually unlock anything)

That's just a small section of one episode but I feel like multiple times an episode I was doing the Leo meme.

Those things are all cool. But it feels like the only reason I'll still watch is to see more of how they tie it into the games.

There's a lot of loose threads they left dangling. I can't remember them all off the top of my head right now. But it's pretty clear that Bea is a mother zero
or something very much like it. She screams and the alligator literally stops attacking.

We need to see how the world fell apart in the kid Jade/Billie era. Also they mention the last time Jade and Billie saw each other was when Jade was 19 and pregnant. So if that's' the case we have about 5 years from end of the first season to sometime during the fall.

I would love to see the fall of OG Raccoon City. Was Wesker involved? How is Umbrella still a company after that?

Are they going to keep the games kind of on the periphery or will we see more characters in the show like Leon/Claire etc. We already know Ada will be involved.

I feel like the bones of a solid show are here. Some of the actors are bad. Some of the writing is the worst but there's glimmering moments of hope. I'm sure I'll watch the next season if there is one and if they continue to do cool tie ins to the game I will continue to watch. But other than that I'm not really excited.

Thanks for coming to my BlogFAQS. I don't know why I felt the need to write all of this bud I did. I've never had such conflicting emotions about a piece of media before like this one. Is it dog shit? Yes. Is it good? It has it's moments. And it's wild to me that those two can both be true. But it's trying to adapt a video game into a show. That has been notoriously difficult to do over the years.

This game just guts you. I had tears.

I played it after the fan translation first came out in 2008/2009 but I didn't have sound and the timed battles didn't work properly.
Decided to give it a go again and beat it last night.

This game is superior to Earthbound, possibly in every way. Even the combat system, which at face value looks identical, is slightly different and improved. If you were ever a fan of Earthbound you 100 percent need to play this.

Yes, to play the game may be a legal gray area. But if you think Nintendo doesn't know about the fan translation you're kidding yourself. They know. They also know the game will never get a US release and that this is the only way we will get to play it. It's why it's still up.

I mean I'm concerned but I'm not leave the country concerned. I'm more buy 50 acres and go a little "off grid" with solar and a garden and shit. But not stockpiling guns or anything.

But I'm also a white dude so it probably wouldn't be me they would be after.

I'm 2 episodes in so far I am not going to call it bad yet, but it's leaning that way.
If it is going to call itself the same name as the series it's trying to emulate it should tie in more to that series. I have the same complaint with the World War Z movie, it's fine as a movie, but it's not anywhere close to World War Z.

Same. Back during the "trucker convoy" in the US I clicked on a suggested page of one of those groups once to read the stupidity on the comments. Ever since then I've been getting right wing and libertarian groups as suggested pages. Also, I work in construction, specifically flooring, so it's also full of ads for different floor products. I hate it.

Almost as much as I hate people trying to sell their shit on the marketplace and it showing up on my wall for some reason. ACAB has a point but I agree with you somewhat. Yes, he doesn't learn to do anything for himself. I don't know how much of it is on him and how much of it is on his parents trying to protect him from this cruel world or something dumb. Every time you would ask him about getting some work, or going out and doing stuff on his own he always said his parents wouldn't let him.

He has autism.

It's one of those things where he cant' tell what is BS and what's real. He doesn't know when people are joking with him or lying to him. He doesn't have the ability to have "adult level" conversations but tries to and sometimes says offensive things because he doesn't know better (probably.)
