Been playing 30 minutes online and I haven't seen any new tracks yet though! Guess I'll go play the cups offline. I know there's only 8 new tracks currently but there really should be a DLC only option online

I use the physick that stops you from losing runes pretty much constantly now because of that.

Even if you die with runes lost, as long as its active it doesn't remove your old rune spot

I just lost 40,000 runes. Where I'm at level wise that's enough to level twice. Fucking Fort Faroth. Giant rat. Died once to him with like 32k. Made it back to him, got that back, died to him again, then died to the weird poison bats at the beginning on my third time back. What really sucks is you can just run past those guys. Realized that after on my next attempt (which was just to kill him and get revenge for no reason other than being a salty bitch).

At least I've heard there's farming spots later where 40k isn't too hard to get. But please tell me rune loss horror stories so I don't feel like shit thanks

I love this game. Finally getting good at this combat and actually upset with myself for being a little overleveled. Did Crucible Knight at 48 and he was a little too easy even for a newbie like me. I'm gonna wipe out all the bosses I've left before they get easier.

Whoops accidentally killed my first NPC thinking it was an enemy. Googling him (which was hard, had to rely on the location to find out who it was: Palm Reader), and apparently it's just someone who gives you a vision but doesn't have any quest lines or anything. That's a relief

Castle Morne is generally done in the upper 20s. Godrick in the upper 30s!

I did Castle Morne high teens and this is my first Souls game ever and I'm not good at it. Pretty sure it's one of the first "intended" things to do.

I did it way before even knowing about the existence of Margit. Which is fortunate, I was just the right level for that fight (like 30)

I think it's only one boss. A lot of bosses and enemies have light quick attacks in between big attacks, in which case a quick guard is useful.

The animation for putting up your shield is much quicker than the animation to dodge!

I guess I should say I'm learning to space better and wait for an opportune time to strike, not necessarily dodging in the sense of doing a dodge roll. But good to know other bosses don't make guarding useless! I'm still super reliant on it

Damn my interest is dead unless that emboldened part isn't meant to be taken as literally as it sounds

Knowing bosses do this stuff in the future is helpful. I'm learning not to guard everything and dodge more, trying to only block attacks I know I can guard counter

Apparently she dies no matter what. But if you talk to Edgar first, you can trigger a fight with him in invading NPC form for a +8 Halberd. I never met Edgar and could have used that Halberd, whoa.

Well see, the spells have different required stats than the seals you use to do the spells. So I can use the spell and it works, but the game tells me I can't use the seal properly.

I just got a heal incantation. Are incantations weaker if your Faith and Arcane aren't as high as they should be with the seal you use? Otherwise, this heal incantation is worthless.

I have to use the Furlcalling Finger Remedy to summon allies to my game and the Tarnished Furled Finger summons me to their game? Is that right? So I can't really just summon people whenever I want? Golden Halberd is a fairly slow weapon, so I'm not sure you'll be into it, but maybe you will be! By the way, you can't still equip weapons you don't have the stats to use; they're just weaker. You can equip it and try swinging it around to see how it feels if you like.

Yep, I saw that and that's exactly what I did. Certainly slow and I'm not that into it, but its stats are just so far above my +1 Longsword right now (the Vagabond starting one, smithed once). And this was the first Souls boss I ever took down and I want to enjoy my spoils dammit.

Maybe I'll find a better fast weapon while I'm leveling. The good news is it appears leveling strength OR dexterity still raises attack stats of everything, at least at the low levels.

hello this is my first From Soft game and I learned that you can sprint 4 hours in! (missed the tutorial at the beginning until going back there)

Cool game so far. Got to Castle Morne and did a lot of dropping off high places hoping not to die. Found a few grace spots by a beach with electric jellyfish and called it a night 7 hours later.

Also went back and killed that golden fucker at the very beginning when I hit level 20. Got a kickass new weapon that I can't even use! Dammit now I miss BotW (weapon breaking and all).

I have no idea what to level up and the amount of different systems in the game (and crap I collect with no descriptions unless going in the menu) is a bit overwhelming. I started as a Vanguard because I heard it was the most noob friendly. Mainly focusing on vigor, strength and endurance. Apparently dexterity is better for faster weapons though? I like faster weapons. But I just got this shiny new golden halberd I gotta have 30 strength to use properly, so strength it is.

Well I'm way behind in this topic but if I have newbie questions I won't be afraid to ask. Like right now I have no idea how critical hits work so I can't really use that assasin dagger talisman I got a while ago

Those games are great either way, but the incredible atmosphere of all those titles wouldn't be possible without the soundtracks.

What story? There really isn't a forward-moving plot so much as there are scenes of the past functioning to do the barest minimum character building for characters that...make zero decisions of any consequences (in the past or in the present). Does the game even have one identifiable plot moment besides the one you get from leaving the plateau, let alone a memorable one? Zelda awakening her powers is all I can think of and it's not exactly anything compelling.

Definitely a disappointment for me in this department initially, especially after Skyward Sword knocked it out of the park, story-wise. Yet Breath of the Wild is still the best open world game ever made (haven't played Elden Ring yet) so ultimately the lack of a story didn't bug me much at all by the end.

The nations in the game are loosely based on real world countries. Blue Moon is basically a stylised Russia.

That makes a bit more sense then. Things are just going to keep getting worse here in the real world though. I don't know if there will be an "appropriate" time to release this any time soon.

Advance Wars is like fictional armies right. It doesn't directly involve Russia or anything does it? I don't really get this.

I'm revoking my rating and only quoting this message to give Lightning Strikes some context. It's been like 9 years since I last played Prime 2 and I don't think I remember the story well enough to rate fairly after reading that.

You're not going to convince me the Luminoth logs are better than Prime 1's Chozo logs though! They wrote some fuckin' poetry for Prime 1.

The nice thing about BotW though is that even if the game's not working out for you, if you do want just a greatest-hits tour of the game and rush only the major progress points, there's nothing stopping you and the game is not very long if you do that - I don't know if that's really a bright spot if you're hoping for a more standard Zelda adventure, but at least it won't overstay its welcome

Yeah, to echo what others have brought up, (even though I didn't beat the game til over 100 hours in) the most incredible experience I had was going to Hyrule Castle the first time 20 hours in, severely unprepared, and exploring everything I could. If the whole game was as good as those 3 or 4 hours, it would be my favorite game ever.

That said, the divine beasts are actually some of the low points of the game for me, so rushing to them is definitely not the same. Some of the missions to get to them are really good though.

Which was definitely the best stretch so far. I mean, I got whomped and will have to go back later when I have better health and stuff, but it was fun at least.

This is what makes the game so good in my book - the world is filled with weird stuff like this that you just can't possibly expect and stumble upon organically while exploring.

The original Link's Awakening - got to the final boss and turned the game off before starting it. Came back that night to beat it and my save file was wiped. Luckily got to rectify this when the remake came out and beat it. So my real answer is

Start with second hardest mode (sometimes this is Normal, but as the poll included Very Hard I voted Hard), hardest mode for replays. Feel like this maximizes the play value for someone like me who likes challenges

This exactly. And too many games just feel better to play on harder difficulties when implemented correctly. Halo not on Heroic doesn't feel right at all, but I also never would start with Legendary

The arrows just tell you if that Pokemon is easy/hard/impossible to catch, they don't affect anything - they just provide information

That's kind of what I was figuring at this point since I've seen no discernible difference from timing. But yeah, I have been mainly trying to hit Pokemon from behind. That works!

I have no idea about the icons when locking on, I never used it. You wanna hit them from behind if possible. The leaden ball is the highest catch rate you've got right now.

Are you battling a lot?

I'd say yeah, doing quite a bit of battling in general just to fill out the Pokedex. I love that you can catch so many things with never battling them though.

And interesting, leaden balls are really better than great balls huh? Why do I keep thinking great balls are so great lol. (This is like my third Pokemon game ever)

So maybe a dumb question but

When catching Pokemon and locked onto them readying the ball, am I supposed to be waiting for the arrows above them to appear or disappear? Does it even make a difference? I thought early on the game told me the more arrows in the icon the harder it was to catch at the time. I've been trying to time my throws so the ball hits when they're gone.

Also what's the best ball to catch Alphas earlier on? I only have up to Leaden Balls. Are heavy or great balls better is my main question I guess. Sometimes I can get them super low on health and it can still take like 5+ balls and I just switch between types.

Finally started playing this the last couple days...and yep, this game rules. Color me impressed, Game Freak. About 10 hours in and just trying to capture as many alphas as I can in one expedition is so much fun. Biggest achievement so far is catching a level 62 Blissey that I had to cheese and reset my game for multiple times (damn thing kept healing itself and one time beat my great ball with next to no health). Only had a team of 30s and 40s up against it. Sadly I won't be able to use it properly for a while because I'm only just getting star rank 4, but hey, that didn't stop me from using level 40s anyway for the last 3 hours!

The loop is a ton of fun. Just beat Kleavor a little bit ago and did some more quests. Excited to continue and get some more mounts baby.

I will say this is the first game maybe ever that I've thought "I might actually skip these cutscenes if it let me" though.
