Welp, beat the Foundation. I figured I'd have to fight a Hiss-corrupted Marshall or Ash, but it looks like the latter transferred out of this dingy pit, so there's a little bright spot on the dreary story. Somehow, I beat Marshall on the first try, mostly thanks to seizing a bunch of enemies to draw her fire away. Overall, it was okay DLC, but probably not something I'd want to play again.

I found the post-it room randomly. I haven't really been reading much of the stray files, other than hotline convos and the occasional AWE info with redacted passages. As for the X-Files/Twin Peak vibes: yeah, it has a lot of weirdness, and because of the setting and the Board/astral plane stuff, it can get away with just about any type of creative oddity. Monster that barfs 1000 clocks at you? Sure. Traffic light AWE that makes you play "Red Light, Green Light" to approach it? Yes. Constantly shifting area that makes no sense half the time but is still badass, a.k.a. the Ashtray Maze? Yeah, we can do that.

One thing I think could be improved is how empty the areas are. I don't mind it too much because of the Hiss invasion making everyone their puppet, but it was fun finding areas of survivors early on, and now...well...there aren't many to see. At least the Foundation DLC lets you spawn a ranger buddy at certain spots to help. I mean...I could just brainjack a minigun enemy or something, but whatever. If they ever make a sequel, I'd like to see a FBC fully up and running. Imagine if foes/odd things/teleporting envelopes attacked and everyone had to flee or something while you take care of it. 'Twould be a sight.

Huh, I thought the Board was supposed to be the dead directors or something, but apparently my good buddy Former used to be on it (???) and got kicked off for something. He's giving me a warning, in his crazy interdimensional speech. All I know is...I can make crystals grow now.

Hmm, it seems Foundation is (probably) going to make me do some long-ass obstacle courses to free up this Nail/pillar thing. Just finished the first one. AWE does seem more interesting, mostly because it has LanGOATston, but I'll soldier through this.

Although I already started AWE, I might do Foundation next. Apparently Marshall is dead since I'm talking to her through the Hotline. =(

Now, I'm doing a mission where Jesse is some kind of bureau temp who hands out coffee. Not sure if the game is playing another prank or this is another "she invented the entire game up to this point" twist, which wouldn't be half bad (even if it's not novel).

I finally killed that bastard, got the quest update, then died to a kamikaze. Whatever works!!

I beat most of the kamikaze Hiss and the barf one, but I got hit by a stray debris shot from Tommasi out of nowhere, so it didn't go as planned. Tried using Charge (handheld rocket launcher) since it had an extra shot compared to the sniper, but it's not that great. Handgun/shotgun definitely seems to be the way to go, especially since I have high-level damage boost mods on the latter. Also, Tommasi is vulnerable after he tries to do his close-range melee attack, so if I kill the fodder and put up a shield, I should be able to shotgun him real good.

I could probably beat it if I took out this trash-ass sniper rifle that only has two friggin' shots, so I should remember to go handgun/shotgun. Honestly, I've had decent success with handgun/sniper by going to the catwalk area high up in the room, but even one hit from Tommasi's psychokinetic debris almost cleans you out, so a change is probably in order.

Eh well, I just went back to the normal campaign and promptly died to the second Tommasi fight ten times. If it's not those sneaky-ass kamikaze things that take off 99% of your life, it's those disappearing creatures that suddenly appear and barf on you for 99% of your life (unless you have lightning quick reflexes and put up a shield, I guess). Maybe I'll try again later when I'm not so tired.

I haven't played any of those other games, so maybe it's not a big deal?

Ohhhh, I see. I've wandered into the DLC without knowing it. Smooth, game, smooth.

There are plenty of normal-looking areas, even pleasant actually, but a lot of it takes place in weird, dark areas, too, where you have to turn the generator on, fight sewer sludge, etc. It's a weird paranormal skyscraper that changes its features all the time, so I kinda figured it'd be an electrician's nightmare.

Yeah, I'm glad it's over with, now that I beat the plant hydra or whatever that was.

Okay, these mold flowers that snipe you from 9000 feet away with homing bullets are kinda annoying. Might have to break out my sniper handgun for some of this trash-ass garbage.

Darling is great, so it all worked out. Didn't know about the "press square to drop items" thing either, but since important stuff isn't breakable, it hasn't really been a big factor. Can't imagine trying to stack anything for platforming purposes when the hem of your coat brushing against a desk blows it up and sends all the papers fifty feet. The physics in this game are rather sensitive. At first I thought it was odd and choppy, but soon realized it just feels that way because you start with no interesting abilities.

OH MY GOD, you do shoulder switching by pressing d-pad down. This is a gamechanger.

Marvin's is about as close to perfect as I can imagine -- in fact, the only thing I don't like about it is how the backing vocals are distracting in places. CCR's version smokes and I like how well it translated to a rock setting, even if the 11-minute running time can be off-putting for some listeners (personally, I like the workout). Smokey's version is pretty good, too, although I'd still put it third. Gladys' take, as much as I love her voice, doesn't do it for me, because it ditches that crucial organ vamp to make it more upbeat. Sorry, that's just not how the Grapevine works!

For me, the ideal would be Marvin's version stretched out to CCR's length.
