I think Alain will face Ash, like what's the point of bringing him in oppose to Raihan/Flint/Brandon if they weren't going to face each other.

I hope not, we have 25-30 episodes remaining until the start of Scarlet/Violet and obviously some of them won't be the tournament, they still need to finish Goh's and Chloe's stories. I feel things would be rushed if they try to squeeze in seven Ash battles.

I mean, peak Perry probably trumps everyone currently, but Katy Perry is currently not at her peak. That's like saying Usain Bolt is currently the fastest person in the world in the 100m because he still holds the world record.

Honestly, I don't see him battling Iris here since he already beat her a while ago. Though if they don't want to make Ash look too good, they might give him the path of Alain -> Iris rematch -> loss to Leon so he doesn't beat any of the champions he hasn't already beaten.

Even if Ash faces Iris, she would have to defeat a different champion (perhaps Lance to cement her as a Dragon Master) to reach the semis. With that said, I don't think the two will face.

I mean he is the Alolan champion and after including all of the champions there's only one spot remaining. The only champion that you could remove would be Iris (some may argue for Diantha, but having Alain and not her doesn't make sense), but from a story point of view, replacing her won't make much of a difference since Ash will only face 3/7 opponents.

As for who wins, it'll either be Leon or Ash

Looking at the category extensions, they have a Separate Ways, No Merchant category so they are probably open to the idea.

You probably just have to convince a couple of other people to do the category once so it doesn't look like only one person cares about it.

Not a huge change over the last two years. Final Fantasy V gained while Persona 5 dropped.

Donkey Kong being immune to mind control makes it a more even fight, the question is whether that extends to mind reading. If so, then DK easily wins, if not, then advantage Psycho Mantis, but DK could still win with his sound wave attacks. It would be hard to dodge those even if you know it's coming.

GameFAQs was still relatively mainstream in 2008. I don't expect us to skew much more than 74% over the past two years. There just isn't much room for it to grow unless the PS/N64 era people start leaving for some reason.

While this site does lean old, looking at this poll https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/poll/8115-how-many-years-have-you-been-playing-video-games about 25% of the site started gaming after the SNES generation.

So that puts SNES games in a 25% hole that they have to make up in future re-releases (or other means) plus not everyone plays a game when it was released, only about 10% of SNES owners even bought the game.

Conservative estimates have the SNES and Genesis with similar software attach rate (ignoring the claims by Sega that they outsold Nintendo software by an almost 2:1 ratio) yet looking at Wikipedia, the SNES had over 20 games which sold 2 million copies yet the Genesis is listed with six (though admittedly the page feels a bit sparse), this suggests a more varied purchasing habit among Genesis owners.

The Genesis was quite competitive at the time, but a lot of their heavy hitters didn't exactly age well.

Survivorship bias also helps the SNES be more memorable as many of the series continued post-SNES while a lot of Genesis games didn't make it past the generation or died out quite quickly after that.

It also helps that SNES owners were more concentrated on certain games and thus became more memorable among a wide audience while Genesis owners bought a large variety of games and thus games one person loved may not have been played by other people on the console.

I don't think Final Fantasy VII is a tier above the other games, especially as we move further away from Remake. I'd still take it as the second strongest game today, but it won't be easy.

Yeah, removing Super Street Fighter II Turbo was fine since we already had Street Fighter II. Deus Ex was okay since we already saw Panzer Dragoon Saga stink up 2004.

Street Fighter IV was a neutral change while DKC2 sounds good on paper, but the SFF made it a bad change. Fire Emblem was a bad choice and had terrible bracket placement. I wouldn't have minded Soul Calibur since it did quite well in 2004, but not at the expense of SSB.

2015 MGS4 was expected to get 38% against SSBM while 2020 MGSV was expected to get 35% against Skyrim.

2020 MGSV would probably break 40% against 2015 MGS4, the question is whether you think MGS4 has dropped that much since then.

It's definitely an upset pick, but I wouldn't blame people for taking it.

Also, CoD4: Modern Warfare is a good option for largest fall, went from beating Super Mario Galaxy to getting 20% against Super Metroid

While Brawl (and now Smash 4) is pretty irrelevant, I do feel if it ever returned to a contest, it wouldn't be much weaker. Like among the games in GotD it would lose to Majora's Mask, Melee, FFX, Twilight Princess and maybe Wind Waker and that's probably it...
