It had a solid 3 fps on the original. But I did end up enjoying it after getting used to the level design, and realizing that no enemy there really did much damage, they just toxified you. So just eat the toxic and run through. You can easily get to the next bonfire that way.

Depends if you think you are able to influence the dice at all. If you can't and they are random, then the moment you decide to start the game, the ending has also been decided. You just act out the motions and watch the results.

Saul is always fine. Like seriously, he survived BB with just a 7 years sentence, how would prison be a problem?

And, he has no control over which person he's allowed to be. In Omaha he was stuck being Gene when he wanted to be Saul. With Chuck and Howard he wanted to be McGill but he was just Slippin Jimmy. Now he's stuck as Saul when he wants to be Jimmy. It's the same prison each time, only literal now. Kim is the only one that lets him be himself in the entire series. That last cigarette let him be Jimmy for the last time. (The flame was also in color if you didn't notice)

I dunno, I always play light or medium weight roll-based defense, but I have friends who always go heavy. They still get the iframes from rolling, they just can't spam it. And they do just as well or better than me in DS3 and ER at least. These games are pretty damn balanced. They make you feel like your build is the only viable one.

The thing with souls is there are 2 modes of gameplay that you're usually in. Progress, and grinding. If you're progressing in the world, then souls don't matter at all, so you don't need to worry about losing them. If you're grinding then souls are all that matters. So you can play it safe near a bonfire and there's basically no way to lose your stash. But if you try to progress and grind at the same time, you'll probably get disappointed.

One technique I use for that is to think of 1 good thing for every 1 bad thing. Only works on self inflicted negativity, but that seems like the case.

You haven't watched BB a 2nd time yet? It's magical. Basically every scene & character feels different.

Said 5 but should've said 6. Typically 12-18 months at each company, except for 1 who I worked with for over 3 years. But that was technically a dozen different jobs as an independent contractor.

My current job is the first time I have ever gotten a raise without having to leave. It was always 10x easier to just jump somewhere else.

Left my last job because it felt like a dead end and they were also trying to go back into office in like March 2021. Obviously that didn't work so they stayed remote for like a year, but the insistence was still terrible.

There's no way we don't get more games. The engine is so good and can do 2-3 more games easy. Metroid isn't known for releasing games in linear story order anyway.

The cycle & Yu Yevon are what need to be defeated, but they aren't concious. Yunalesca is the only active conscious supporter of the cycle (and her cronies like Mika), so it's clear she's the ultimate villain. Not only of Tidus/Yuna's story, but Auron's, and every summoner. Defeating her was the climax of the party's mission (aka "our story") and killing Sin was the end. Then only Tidus' story to beat Jecht remained.

Seymour actually wants to the end the cycle just as much as Tidus/Yuna, but using destruction instead. He was absolutely a loser who did not deserve to be the final boss. Glad they didn't do that.

Same, Adam never really rang alarm bells for me until closer to the end. But the premise of the game definitely did. Being placed at the very bottom of the map to start (also a subversion of Metroid's typing top-down exploration) and having to go through all these Chozo challenges.

Also the delayed morph ball was the most brilliant idea ever

It was awesome. I don't think it was the best 2D Metroid (ZM and Super are hard to beat, and maybe even Fusion) but it clearly had the soul of 2D Metroid, which so many Metroid-likes failed to capture since Fusion (and I played a ton of them).

I liked F2P for Genshin. Never would've tried it if it wasn't. But for most games F2P prob turns me off more than anything. I don't mind paying a bit to try a game and maybe returning it (or just eating the cost, whatever).

Really not hype for one but I'll get one in the next 2 years prob

I don't think this was a particularly slow episode, but it definitely felt like it was intentionally wasting time. I wonder if they got paid by Cinnabon per minute of on-screen cinnamon roll eating.

But also it's pretty clear that Jeff represents the viewer and our desire for more Saul shenanigans, with our noses pressed up against the glass. Well here it is. 30 minutes of oozing cinnamon, trash bags, and sports talk. Do we really want more of this? Well nah. So we're done.

No way. It showed how he chose the game over the rest of his life. Or rather how he doesn't have a choice but to play the game. Saul couldn't choose either, but Kim could. Super relevant to that episode.

Also I read something about him planning the Salud assassination there. Since he was given an open drink, which has a blood iron flavor, and just recently saw Eladio drinking from an open container (sangue por sangue). So it was essentially Gus' garden state style call to action.

It is playing, sure. But I never said it's not a valid way to engage with the game, it's just way weaker than playing the route yourself. So of course I want to influence people to do the stronger experience, even if it means quitting early and then going to watch the vid.

Only watched 10 mins so far but I'm so glad this is a spiritual sequel to NFY and it's hitting the mark so well already

If it's all QOL issues then it's still a good game imo. But I personally judge a game harshly for bad QOL and UI since those are the easiest things to get right. As is evident by modders doing it.

Right, and which other games really put this question in front of the player? It's a choice you make every single time you play any game, but you never examine it until here.

That's what I mean by better. It's 1 choice in 1 game that changes your perception of the 100s of games you've played and will play. If you can get that from watching the video then cool, but I don't think you can.

Probably, but I've seen a lot of people get it and talk about it. I didn't get it initially until I saw others talking about it. And of course many won't care about that at all and just think it's funny seeing Sans acting badass. That's art though, can't guarantee an experience, but you should at least try.

No, I'm saying it's designed to really make you face the choice of continuing the run or not. You have to decide not to play in a conscious and revealing way.

Not trying it at all is totally valid of course, but it's just another experience of "nah that's not my thing". For example reading a list of achievements and deciding not to do the platinum, which we do dozens of times.

So yeah you prob would've hated it, but you definitely would've appreciated it too. You wouldn't even think that was possible without playing it, which is why it's so good and unmatched.

That's a common thought but it's so reductive. Those experiences are all equally valid, but they are certainly on a wide spectrum of quality. For example, it's obvious that quitting the game after 10 mins is not a good way to experience the game. Even though a huge portion of players had that exact experience. So much design effort in any game is spent trying to hook the player for just a few more minutes, because designers know how much better their experience can be.

To the extent that art is about experiencing things, it's better art if it gives you something you can't get anywhere else. You allude to this in your point #1. If you can get the same experience in many other places, then it's a commodity, which is kinda the opposite of art.

The way genocide uses the trope of grinding is so different though. Other games are designed to encourage grinding, but Undertale does everything in it's power to discourage it. But you're still compelled to do it due to... something. The reason is different for everyone and the game pulls it out of you (Chara, mirror, etc). Or you quit it, which a difficult and illuminating choice too. You can't get out of that playthrough without changing the way you see games. Watching a 1 hour vid on 2x that you can skip around and pause is nothing like it.

So I'm saying that the genocide video experience is wayyyy more commoditized. It's still good and it's cool Toby Fox planned for it, but there's a lot of dramatic let's plays like that you can find. Nothing has even come close to the real thing though. (mayyyybe Nier 2)

Neutral path is a nice game, true ending is an amazing game, and genocide makes it into one of the best games ever which will probably never be replicated. A big part of that is that you need to play it to get the full effect. Sucks that you didn't since it seemed like you weren't spoiled at all on it. The video is fine but you miss the really unique stuff.

What I bought it for:

What I enjoyed:

Only once officially, very recently. Had similar symptoms 2 years ago but never confirmed it.

Had to look up the speedrun strat for Purify... got within 50ms using the regular route but it took me like 10 mins to shave off the last 100ms, didn't seem possible to go more.
