Since there were discussions of Martins contributions in the last topic, yeah he wrote the backstory effectively. Apparently this included a lot of the characters and their relationships as well, the demigods were written by him it seems. I do think you can see this even in the opening, The Night of Black Knives is a very George RR Martin thing to write, obviously bringing to mind the Red Wedding but inspired by the real life Night of Long Knives just as that was inspired by the real life Black Dinner. It is overall incredibly From but with a twist from GRRM, I like the story I have uncovered so far.

Its longer than the gap between Batman & Robin and Batman Begins! Similarly the gap between this film and the start of The Dark Knight Trilogy is longer than the gap between Batman Begins and Batman 1989.

So yeah its been long enough since a proper Batman film, its not a Spider-Man situation with excessive reboots.

Have been doing a lot of stuff in Limgrave, found the way to the island, got teleported to a high level zone and fought my way back beating a high levelled invader and beat a few other optional bosses including the Nights Cavalry, who got a lot easier when I switched to using the Dismounter on horseback which lives up to its name. Later I beat Margit and have been exploring Stormveil Castle, I really dislike the birds with swords for feet

I don't know why I keep buying into From software hype cycle, knowing the game isn't for me.

Yes, I think I'm giving up after Margit the Fell.

First Bloodborne, then Sekiro, now Elden Ring. These games just make me feel like crap.

There is a really easy way of demonstrating that Ukraine is democratic. In 2019, Ukraine voted out Poroshenko who was the incumbent following 2014 and his party, and voted in Zelenskiy, along with his party largely consisting if political newcomers. The elections were independently verified as being free and fair and in fact what shady doings there were had actually been to help Poroshenko, who lost regardless. So in essence the USs guy -lost- which says it all. Overall no this analogy is not based in reality.

Decided to play as a Wretch to get the experience of using what equipment I can find, its been difficult mainly down to the lack of shield, and I havent found a chestpiece yet. I dont know if theres not much equipment early on by design or if I just missed everything though.

i fought two optional bosses and one of them was effectively a Bloodborne boss, so much dodging Looking forward to having a shield!

7.5. I really like how this is a more personal story centred around key characters than the other Dark Souls games and expands the lore nicely, but it is a little bit too vague at times.

Is it true theres only been 300 deaths?

UK says 450+ Russian casualties as of this morning. Obviously a western perspective but as close to an unbiased report as we will see for a while. Ukraine was saying 137 Ukrainian deaths last night which is likely accurate, if not lower than reality. So Id say no, we are looking at casualties well into the hundreds at least very likely higher.

For reference it took the US seven years to lose as many men in Afghanistan as Russia has here. That should give sone idea as to the speed and scale of this conflict.

Also it was Moldovan rather than Romanian so not NATO. The Turkish one (which was a cargo ship by the way, not a warship as mentioned here) was NATO however though not sailing under the Turkish flag.

Sweden and Finland are in the EU so NATO membership is arguably not necessary. There is an agreement between NATO and the EU effectively for this reason.

After everything I wonder if this pushes Turkey back towards the EU and potential membership.

To be clear: although there was a coup in 2014, since there have been two free and fair elections, and in the last one the government changed. It is not the same regime despite what some misinformation and propaganda says - Ukraine is very much a democracy.

Thats like saying the Russian Revolution was a false revolution because it still ended up a dictatorship afterwards. Obviously a lot has changed, just not the hostile dictatorship with imperialist ambitions part.

Thats a good breakdown from Sheepy, though I think RTs influence is massively understated. There are a lot of open-source studies that indicate that its surprisingly influential, but a lot of politicians refuse further investigations for political reasons. It is ludicrous that RT is just allowed to broadcast propaganda in other countries. Russian interference needs to be dealt with.

Other suggestions from Ukrainian diplomats:

-Ending software licences for military and civilian equipment.

-Jamming satellite signals.

-Granting Ukranians access to the EU emergency aid system.

The EU is also now sanctioning Belarus, and has the harshest sanctions so far. Hopefully the UK and US will follow suit and Scholz is wrong about SWIFT. German officials say its still on the table anyway.

Obviously not talking about combat, that would be a terrible idea and Im a pacifist regardless. I was talking about sanctions, especially sanctions that target the oligarchs and the billions of dirty Russian money that floods other countries. Current moves have not been sufficient. Nobody sane wants other countries to get involved militarily when nuclear war is being threatened. There are, however, other options.

-Moving away from Russian energy.

-Ending golden visas for Oligarchs.

-Cutting off access to SWIFT.

-Removing Russian investments and political donations.

-Banning RT and other propaganda networks.

-Greater asset freezes and travel bans against key individuals and organisations.

-Cracking down on troll farms and bots online.

Its not really that exactly, in his speech a few days ago Putin criticised Lenin for allowing Ukraine to form as a Soviet Republic at all, and he stated that he views the destruction of Ukraine as the only way to complete decommunisation. He doesnt want to go back to the Soviet days, he wants to go back to the Russian Empire.

This is the thing though, the people saying that it was a fake revolution or acting like Russias still communist are wrong. It is a very different Russia. Just not, as it happens, a better Russia. The tankies stanning for Putin are absolutely ludicrous, its a hard right very anti-communist dictatorship that is an ultra-capitalist corporate dystopia invading a democracy. If you want to talk about fascists, look no further than elements of the Russian government. No self-respecting left-winger or communist should be siding with a state like that. It is, fortunately, a small minority.

So yeah this is awful, everybody supporting it is awful, and hopefully all nations western or otherwise will join in a strong response.

To be fair, Skyrim PS3 had massive issues, so it makes sense for the average there to be lower.

Not sure why Fata Morgana wouldn't count unless you hate indie games. The version with the most reviews has the highest average.

Well PC Skyrim is also slightly lower, whereas there are so few PS3 reviews it wouldnt affect a mathematical average that much.

Also I dont hate indie games! Its just that its a port of an older game with 10 reviews, its not a straight comparison with a new game with 100 reviews. It also isnt even the first western release. Different scope.

Above 95! So 96-100. GoW is a 94 last I checked. The Disco Elysium and Fata Morgana versions are late ports/upgrades with barely any reviews so kind of against the spirit lol. Skyrim 360 is a good one for single launch versions. Bioshock had both platforms (PC and 360) at a 96 whereas a cross-platform average could bring the others down.

A challenge: what was the last non-Nintendo, non-Rockstar game to score above a 95? Bioshock?

Am I shooting myself in the foot by playing this on a 1080p TV from 2013? I really wanna pick this up on Friday (for PS5), but I also wanna stick with my current screen until I absolutely need to plunk down a grand on an upgrade.

Its a cross-gen game so Im sure itll look fine at 1080p, although if you have a PS5 already youd definitely benefit from a new screen.

What really shocks me in a good way is people saying that the exploration and traversal are as good as Breath of the Wild. Aside from RDR2 no other open world game has ever gotten to that level and even that wasnt quite there.
