Having not really played gen 7 randoms, I would imagine terrains adding to the random part. Get Tapu Lele with your psychic sweeper and your opponent has priority revenge killers? That could hand you victory alone. Get Tapu Lele and it being the other way around, it's suddenly a huge disadvantage instead.

I will mention though that this is going to be specifically geared towards Random Battles, so don't take this as an indicator of whether or not you should use the pokemon in gen VII OU or something. (One reason is relative strength of different mons is different due to how the level balancing works, but also sometimes Randoms just doesn't give the same sets that are actually competitively used. For example it seems Nihilego is mainly used competitively as a choiced special attacker, but in Randoms he pretty much exclusively has Entry Hazard sets. Another example is Persian-Alola which I'm led to believe has a niche as a defensive pivot in some competitive format, but in Randbats mainly has Nasty Plot sweeping sets possibly also with Hypnosis.)

Nihilego's only niche in OU is due to its access to Toxic Spikes. It's an awful scarfer, though it was a popular set early in the metagame. Perhaps it's not complete trash om UU, but there's so many Steel types tgere it just might be as well.

I don't follow the lower tiers too much, but I think Persian-Alola is used mostly for utility. Definitely not a sweeper though.

It's a strong Z-move, but I doubt Kommo-o will be worth much in OU given that it has no use right now and its Z-move is easy to okay around when you know it comes, similar to how Polygon Z is super predictable. This attack actually hits unlike Z-converation and hard too, but it can however be blocked entirely. Kommo-o will definitely move out of RU though and possibly into BL.


I read a theory that the current Necrozma form is actually the armor to what is its real form, which would be this substance of light we're seeing. And that Solgaleo and Lunala's real forms would also be the new ones, but they had shred their armor to seal away Necrozma. Thought it was cool and surely plausible.

I follow it a little bit. Watched Crash because I just played the remake. Also Super Monkey Ball because that's one of the most enjoyable series to watch speedrunning of imo.

Mimikyu is much less a Pikachu clone than Togedemaru and every other Pokemon made that resembles Pikachu in any way. To answer Luster (and others), I would definitely target Emolga and Dedenne for being uoriginal before Mimikyu. There's actually a point to it for once. Mimikyu is among the most original ideas of the generation. Look past the cover and it's a completely different Pokemon.

ctes: Magearna is really cool. They make these things every generation, but Magearna is a lot more interesting than most if not all the others. Steel / Fairy is a cool typing too being a lot better than the mono-typing a bunch of the other cute mythical Pokemon has. It's also absolutely fantastic competively, really dominating the OU tier since Meta Metangross was banned. It's lovely to use. It's ability is really good too, though it is a bit lame how similar to Beast Boost it is.

Moxie would be a closer comparison for its ability. Magearna has an ability that can only boost Special Attack when a Pokemon gets KOed. However, it actually works in Double Battles when a Pokemon on your side of the field gets KOed, so the ability is very strong in Doubles. Moxie can't do that.

Beast Boost is similar to Moxie, but it can boost a single stat depending on which stat is the highest. This allows the EVs to be customized to get a specific stat to be boosted by Beast Boost.

I made the comparison because a bunch of legendaries (Ultra Beasts whatever) came and all had Beast Boost. Then Magearna comes at the same time and has Soul Heart.
I don't mind similar abilities at all. Just very little variation in the bottom of the gen 7 pokedex, that's all.

Anyone expecting USUM news were asking to be disappointed. If there was anything, they'd have shown it during the reveal. Last year they said they would show gameplay, but that a lot to do with the fact that SM was Nintendo's full hiliday lineup. They said it in advance then. How much Game Freak doesn't want to show things at E3 combined with the fact that Nintendo had a lot this year, it was a no chance.
