I mean the main thing is to have some kind of plan going in, and realistic expectations relative to what fees you pay. Pretty much any professional degree (e.g. Engineers, accountants, law, medicine) will pay itself off well. The biggest mistake I see is people doing a degree that seems interesting, but which doesn't enable access to a job in that field without either postgrad study or existing industry connections (psychology, quite a few science degrees, quite a few arts degrees).

Whereas if a trans woman is legally a woman in the insurance system, they might need to pay for spiro out of pocket. It makes life that much more annoying because insurance company programs for coverage tend to be very simplistic. If they're a woman, anything that's typically for men (even things that can help people for their diuretic purposes) will be denied by default. And vice versa.

I would be quite surprised if spironolactone was declined on the basis of someone's gender. It's used pretty often for heart failure, in women as well as men.

The more you earn the more income tax you pay the lowest beeing 20% the highest beeing 45% iirc but your tax goes to everything not just the NHS.

Right, but that's kind of my point... your taxes (in part) are covering your health insurance. Claiming it's lower based on the per-visit cost is a bit disingenuous, because you're paying into it constantly. Someone in the US could theoretically take the extra 20% they're saving in taxes and put it into a savings account and end up in the same place, if not better in the long run when combined with their existing insurance.

Assuming they don't have a family history of practically any condition that blocks you from getting it/ makes it stupidly expensive.

Well sure, but generally you get seen immediately. I could equally point out that the NHS waitlist for surgery is something like 1 to 3 years, meaning a lot of people will die before they can even get their "affordable coverage".... it's all relative.

I feel like your understanding of the NHS comes from incorrect information.

You comment about it being cheaper under the US system isn't true at all. USA health spending per person is literally double what the UK spends, including all private and public spending.

Im not sure about surgery waitlist times in UK, but we have a similar system here in NZ and the waitlists for elective surgeries don't extent past around 4 months. If it's for cancer, it's usually within 2 weeks.

On the medical part, then it might be possible to transplant even more organs, or new way of preservation, etc.

You'd be surprised. A lot of people who in your eyes would be "chubby" probably fit the medical definition of obesity; you're just so used to seeing everyone being kind of fat these days that it doesn't stand out.

EDIT: It's also very interesting to me the stark difference between the measured and self-reported countries on the list (except Japan and SK).

Look, millennial. They don't owe you a god damn thing. They aren't morally obligated to give you a place to sleep. They're a business. And you? When you rent an apartment, you're making a transaction. If you can't pay... you can't rent.

Do you go into a restaurant, order a meal and then when you've already eaten and get the check say "you should give me this food for free. What would you have me do, starve to death?"

I bet the fuck you do.

I was told that I had cancer

This is what prompted my last breakdown. I was actually good at first, I had dealt with life threatening chronic diseases before (being born with Tet of Fallot, I had a life expectancy of 17 years) so being diagnosed with colon cancer didn't really get to me. Even when I was diagnosed stage IV I still wasn't terribly perplexed

Then I started chemo, and the chemo was...I don't think it was actually all that bad aside from the constant diarrhea, but it was just enough to sink in how real the situation was. It was a small enough push to knock me over the edge. The gravity of it all finally hit me, and for about two days I went into a massive panic attack. I mean I was in a phone call with my mom, screaming in fear on the floor. I was absolutely terrified. It took two days before the panic went away, and in that time it took two lorazepams, two ceraquils, two intravenous shots of valium, and a trazodone before my mind had calmed down enough that I could fall asleep. It was two days before I finally got sleep again. Then the depression set in, and for the first time in my life I was legitimately scared of death.

It was the worst "meltdown" I've ever had.

Have you had input from palliative/hospice people? It seems like it might be useful.
