Yeah. I generally have a rather low opinion on social media.

It would not surprise me if, in the event civilization undergoes a collapse into another dark age, that social media isn't one of the primary factors leading up to it.

So basically, you are wigging out because they went and defused your far-flung head-canon.

This is why I don't ever take anyone seriously who frequently watches Game Theory videos or anything else like that (or at least, watching them because they actually think they might be real).

Hate to break the news to you. But most of the time there is some crossover, its because some network executive who might not even care about the shows themselves comes in and says "ok guys, do a crossover with this other show. We need a ratings boost." The primary exception is when the show is based on a source material that already HAS those crossovers, or is otherwise pretty clearly set in the same universe from the get-go (see: Ducktales and other Duck-based disney series).

I wonder how much it has to do with the dwindling traffic the site is getting thanks to the FAQstapo moderation officers

The reason its dwindling is because Reddit exists now, and most non-console games these days actually have dedicated forums or at least can make use of Steam's Discussion sections.

And all those forums are handled MUCH better than GameFAQs is with regards to the "archiving topics" crap.

Archiving is a great feature back in the 90s and earlier 2000s since it reduces how much bandwidth a site needs to use and makes it easier to run the site and store its data.

But nowadays there is no reason at all for topics to be archived outside of perhaps the most popular of boards. There should at the very least be a minimum cap, below which archiving NEVER happens.

The nen fish thing is used fairly rarely I think. Maybe even just once. I still need to watch the Chimera Ant arc, and the character with the fish only really showed up during the York City arc up to that point.

HxH gets fairly graphic, though the extent varies based on which anime you watch, or whether you just go for the manga only (manga tend to show more, so long as the artist is up for drawing it properly).

The 1999 anime and 2010 anime both start out a little tame then open up with time (especially once 1999's anime hits the OVAs). The 1999 anime tends to actually be little more graphic, while the 2010 anime ends up showing more blood (and in larger quantities). To use an example in Greed Island, an unimportant unnamed fellow gets killed by a bomb attached to him. In one version he is face up on the ground with a giant chunk of his stomach missing and the shape of bones visible on the sides of the hole, but it seems to be mostly cauterized. In the other version he is face down in a big pool of blood.
2011 is the only one that goes farther than the Greed Island arc, but it rushes a HUGE amount through some of the earlier arcs.

The fish thing is what is causing Hunter x Hunter suggestions.

Basically, there is a guy who apparently uses some special nen fish that die when exposed to the outdoors or something. The fish eat you, but its weird because you do not suffer any pain. You don't bleed from the holes they leave behind either. Even if there is a big hole in your head, you can even still think normally (aside from maybe going insane at how unreal the situation is). If the fish die though (such as by opening a window), all the damage suddenly acts realistically and you are probably going to be dead almost instantly.

Don't know much about torrent sites, but I fail to see the appeal of it for anything other than stealing large programs, and they require 3rd party programs to use anyway.

Outside of programs, these days its just easier to stream things. Between higher internet speeds and better video compression systems, if a site were to have some anime or cartoons or movies or something it would be easy to simply stream it. A fair number of pretty good legal sites exist for this even.

If you are using those torrents for non-video purposes and are still noticing it dying down, then you are probably just no longer looking in the right places and should probably start using that Tor dark net stuff and not relying on Google to find it for you.

If you want good demons, you generally have to find a setting that DOESN'T follow the actual mythology very well, with a premise like:

1. God, if it exists in the setting, may be of any alignment, but all other supernatural entities are treated the way a typical fantasy writer uses things like elves and dwarves. Which easily results in a setting where you have angels and demons that can be either bad or good.

2. God is evil in the setting, or just doesn't interfere at all and its the angels that are all evil. Often because they want a cold world of order without any emotion in it, where everyone is basically a robot. So naturally, those who oppose this are the good guys.

Ah well. I suspect there is still actually some risk anyway. As the eclipse moves from totality to that "diamond ring" appearance and starts to brighten back up, I could see it being possible to damage your eyes if you were just watching it the entire time and your biological reflex didn't react in time due to the relatively slow change in brightness.

If you were in a place with full totality, it probably is safe to look at briefly.

Sephiroth C Ryu

The biggest issue is for those who are actually in the path of totality. The sun's atmosphere (which is still visible) is still very bright. But since you would presumably be focusing in on the center of it all, your natural reflex to stop-looking-at-a-bright-thing is "tricked" by the darkness at the center of your vision and throughout much of the sky outside of that circle.

There is likely less danger to people who are outside the area of total eclipse since those people either really ARE stupid enough to look at even a partial sun/think sunglasses are enough for that, or they will simply notice on a basic biological level that it is still damn bright and uncomfortable to look at even if its only 1/4 of the sun they usually see.

Be be more clear, I mean focusing on a specific nephew overly much.

Its fine if they want to give them proper personalities, and thus get a few more episodes establishing them for the other two that weren't really focused on yet. But it would get tiring if, for instance, there were multiple episodes that had a major aspect revolving around the same quirk one of the nephews had each time, despite them "getting better" or "fixing it" supposedly in the resolution to one of them.

It shouldn't be an issue though, unless they try too hard to focus on the nephews purely for the sake of showing off the characters the same age as a target audience. Of course, even if they do that, they will at least be focusing on 3 distinct nephews, which is a step up from the issues that plagued Quack Pack (namely, that the nephews weren't all that different in it).

Yeah, my main worry is the nephews. Currently, it focused on them a bit because it was the introductory episodes and thus it made sense to do so, and it would make sense to see another couple episodes to give some further introductions to the two that didn't really get much focus this time. But it could be detrimental if they make a habit of focusing too much on the nephews.

That aside, they still sound a bit like the Beagle Boys to me.

But yeah. So far, its pretty good.

TopicIf NK was really about to attack Guam, why in the fuck would they announce it???
Sephiroth C Ryu
08/10/17 5:02:23 PM
#5
That question seems to be the general feelings of the news article I saw on it. NK tends to prefer trying to be unpredictable when it comes to actually attacking things in the past. And actually launching the attack he is posturing would only end poorly for him anyway.

The main uncertainty now is whether or not the current leader is actually capable of realizing his situation. I mean, we all make fun of how he has basically pretended to invent a bunch of stuff and propagandas about how he is some kind of god-king born on a volcano or something, but the sheer level of delusional propaganda going on could very well be masking some actual delusions of his own too.

If he actually is deluded and thinks himself something more than human somehow, or really does believe some of his own propaganda about other countries (i.e. the USA), then the risk of him doing something stupid and against his REAL interests is greater. In which case, he might go through with it, or attempt to use it as a "feint" to instead launch a missile at DC due to likely not really understanding how our government and/or defenses work (we might be able to shoot it down, and even if his missile is actually accurate enough to hit DC after getting past defenses, it won't destroy the government enough to prevent retaliation even if Trump refrains from launching our own missiles in response before it reaches DC).

"No" is the correct answer.

They have yet to demonstrate they actually can fire a missle at LONG range with enough accuracy to NOT hit a different country by accident. All their tests have basically been mostly straight-up and into the nearby ocean (and they STILL landed in waters belonging to other nations once or twice), merely going high enough to prove that the rockets do in theory have enough delta-V to go as far as they claim.

I see no reason to suspect that they would automatically be able to hit the USA. And given their track record, there could very well be a risk of it breaking up one or two stages in, leaving it to fall on Russia or China or something (though I would hope that any catastrophic structural failure would likely destroy the detonation electronics too, it would still leave the country it lands on with a nice effective dirty bomb).

Otherwise, they may simply play at home, or use it as their entertainment when traveling on business.

Due to the limited nature of it being a straight-up time travel, then I might not even do it. Or failing that, I would prefer to save it to use in the future to go back a few days, so that I am not at risk of meeting a past self who is unaware of the possibility of meeting a future self. Reduces paradox risk that way at least, if time happens to be ornery like that. In other words, I would prefer the ability to travel back in time to any point after I first get the option (i.e. if I got the option to travel back in time at this moment, then I could at any point in the future use it once to travel back to any time at or after this moment)

What I would really like instead is the ability to instead send my memories/soul/self back in time to my body in the past. i.e. so I could basically return to the past, becoming my childhood self. It would also mean that I don't have to worry about living conditions or otherwise not having a place due to another instance of me already existing in that time.

Aside from the fact that it would technically result in me being a prodigy (definition is basically "a child capable of functioning on the same level as an adult in some field of work), I could potentially look up some simple modern invention to take back. Best bet would probably be alloys or interesting mixtures of materials.
