Here's how I mass delete songs on my Android phone:

- long-press a song title
- check the box next to every song I want gone
- trash bin icon

Here's how I did it on my ipod:

- connect to computer
- open iTunes
- oh, my ipod isn't being recognized because I'm using a shitty 3rd party cable since the official one provided with the ipod broke a year ago, and new official cables are $30; let me reconnect it several dozen times to see if that fixes things
- go into sync settings
- uncheck the songs I want gone
- sync in progres...
- wait an hour...
- come back and it deleted everything

Oh, and the sixteenth update of the day is waiting for me.

Honestly, if I ever stumbled into an iPhone for free, I'd pass it along to one of my family members or just sell it. Dealing with iTunes is simply not worth the hassle. I don't even give a shit about the lack of convenient features like an SD card slot, removable battery, 3.5mm port, micro-usb charging port, etc. ITunes itself is such a bloated piece of shit that I wouldn't wish it upon my worst enemy.

Now why would Nintendo say that this time around, but not for the NES Classic? We know that they stated that their production of the SNES Classic will far exceed that of the NES, but perhaps they might actually produce enough to meet demand? It doesn't seem likely, but I believe that's what they're implying.

That or they've had it with scalpers making more per system than Nintendo themselves, in which case get this fucking situation under control by pumping out more units.

Side note: I actually saw an NES Classic out in the wild last year. It was at a Macy's. I didn't buy it because I don't care for NES games, and I didn't flip it because I'm not an asshole. Maybe I can find a SNES Classic there this year.

I never played Metroid 2, so I'm not sure how faithful this remake is, but I will say that a number of the abilities they gave Samus have me scratching my head, though I'm not sure if they were present in the original (and I'm gonna go with no, they weren't).

I'm not at all a fan of being able to reveal hidden passageways on your map, as that completely kills your sense of exploration, and the satisfaction you feel when you stumble upon these secret rooms. SotN and Super Metroid both give the player access to broad maps of the various locations, but they don't reveal the hidden paths. I guess people will say "just don't use the power then," so all right, I can give this one a pass and say it's great for those that hate secrets, and I can just ignore it.

Giving Samus a melee parry feels oddly out of place. I don't hate its inclusion, but I am wondering why they felt the need to include it. When I played Super Metroid, I never once went "man, if only this combat had more depth to it; a parry move would work wonders to keep things exciting." Metroid has always been about exploration; not combat. This is the sort of the same reason why Mirror of Fate failed so catastrophically. They're focusing on combat instead of exploration, and not even doing a great job with the subject they're focusing on.

Then there's stuff like super armor, increasing the rate of fire of your gun, and slowing down time, all of which I'm not against, but there's a major problem here: the hardest difficulty of the game (one where you'd be forced to make clever use out of all of these powers) is locked behind a fuckin' amiibo that's been sold out for a while now. So on easier difficulties, all of this just trivializes the game, and unless you plop down $30 for that new 2-pack of Metroid amiibos, you're shit outta luck.

Lastly, the 2.5D aesthetic doesn't look appealing whatsoever here. I've seen games do 2.5D well (the Trine games come to mind, and they're gorgeous). This is just more of that same sloppy art style used in Mirror of Fate. Seriously, fuck MercurySteam.

So I guess if I just ignore all of the additions they've made and play this like a classic Metroid game, I'll get that classic Metroid experience. For $40. Or, I can just grab AM2R for free and get a prettier-looking Metroid that's more in-line with what I like about Metroidvanias.

I don't want to jump the gun and say this game will be terrible, but from everything I've seen, read, and heard, there's no way I can be even the slightest bit optimistic.

But yeah, the trailers didn't really wow me (partly since I saw the miniseries)

I think most people have nostalgia for the miniseries because "ooh, I watched a scary movie when I was little," but I actually rewatched it with my brother a few years back, and it hasn't held up. In fact, I'd say it was probably never great to begin with. Yeah, Tim Curry is great and all, and I guess John Ritter is there too, but I think the issue stems from the story itself being so long and convoluted that it doesn't really translate well to film. Or I don't know; I guess I just don't get Stephen King. He's way too weird for my tastes.

The Wave Master posted...
Also, Metroid Samus Returns drops on Friday. I'm broke but I want the game, and Nintendo games never really drop in price. Therefore, playing the waiting game and hoping for a price drop isn't a viable iption.

Speaking of bad taste <_<

But seriously, I saw the words "MercurySteam" and immediately lost every ounce of hope for the game. I imagine this will be very similar to Mirror of Fate, which was one of the worst Metroidvania's I'd ever played. For that reason, I can't put blind faith in these guys and expect this remake to be competent.

Maybe it'll wind up being fantastic, but honestly, even if that's the case, I'd much rather hunt down AM2R and play that, as it caters to my tastes much more than Samus Returns does.

On geekier notes It (The Movie) has made a metric ton of money this weekend. And I heard that the movie is actually pretty good too.

From what I've seen in the trailers, it looks like another dime a dozen horror flick that injects loud sound effects to startle the viewer in place of actually scaring them, and that is without a doubt my absolute least favorite type of movie. So I think the film looks like utter shit, and the fact that modern horror fans enjoyed it, when modern horror fans have some of the shittiest taste on the entire planet, only serves to fortify my belief that it's terrible.

I also just watched the RLM review, where they basically said "if you cut out the stupid horror bullshit, it'd be a pretty good movie."

Also also, I've been playing Splatoon 2 all weekend, and it's probably the most fun I've had with a video game in the past few years. I've been itching for a good competitive game for so very long, and I finally found one that I absolutely adore.

Seriously, this was 100% to be expected. "Significantly more units this time" actually means two extra units per store, which when you think about it, is actually quite significant. It's still nowhere near enough to meet demand, but when has Nintendo ever cared about consumers?

It's actually been a while since I last played Cross, so I can't comment on what exactly all the issues were that I had with it, which is why I want to replay it. All I can remember was that I took issue with a number of gameplay decisions, but the specifics escape me at the moment.

I also remember a lot of the characters being differentiated by strange accents, which doesn't come across too well in a game with no spoken dialogue, largely because reading accents that are spelled-out phonetically is frustrating regardless of medium. This is a game that would have benefitted immensely from voice acting.

This also sort of stems from the problem I have with most games that carry large casts: it's too difficult to develop that many characters and assign them importance to the plot without them feeling underdeveloped or forced.

Cross has, what, 50-some characters, of which maybe 5 have any sort of meaningful impact to the story. That's fine-ish because most characters are optional, but even then, they largely feel present simply because woo, the more the merrier. Like the luchador, which is anachronistic considering there's no Mexico in the game. Why is he here? Who cares, you've got a luchador party member now!

I dunno. It just feels like, with Suikoden, yeah there were more characters, but they were developed better. For one, you're the resistance trying to scrounge together an army, so you'll take what help you can get. Recruiting these guys felt more relevant to the goals the main characters were trying to accomplish. Also, some of the characters weren't combatants. You'd recruit a chef to cook meals for your army, or an inventor to install an elevator in your castle. These little characters all contributed to the army's success in some way.

With Chrono Cross, what the fuck did the skeleton jester thing do? I'd much rather they'd have spent their efforts crafting a small party of tightly-written characters that I cared about, rather than 50 that I can scarcely remember.

I played Chrono Cross before Trigger, so there's no nostalgia or bias when I say Cross was a painfully dull experience.

Trigger's no masterpiece; I've tried on 3-4 separate occasions to beat it, and still never have, but I still think it's a well-crafted, fun game.

Xenogears is fun, but it has massive pacing issues. Conversations drone on for inordinate amounts of time, to the point where I couldn't really tell you what the game is about despite reading endless reams of dialogue for 70% of the playthrough. Really, the only times I had fun were when I was exploring dungeons with the hand-to-hand combat; not the gear combat. Sadly, that makes up probably 10% of the entire game.

Played for several months at 2.0's launch, then several months about half a year later, then several months half a year after that, then at the Heavensward launch, then during a free weekend for an hour or so here and there, then I haven't touched it since and have no desire to.

When a game becomes so much of a grindfest that you play a certain way, or do certain things routinely out of habit to reach weekly caps and not out of a desire to have fun, it becomes work. Running the same content endlessly ceases to be fun a week after a patch drops, and it's supposed to keep you going for 3-4 months.

Basically, when you're playing with friends, you'll have a good time, but I play games that aren't time sinks with friends and have a blast because the gameplay is so good. Judging FFXIV on its own merits, as a game, it's awful. Maybe if combat didn't involve memorizing rotations that maximize dps, or if there was horizontal gear/skill progression, or if endgame content involved individual skill rather than group-wide coordination, I would've enjoyed it more. As is, I can't stand the game.

Not so much a double standard when the most popular religion in the country is overwhelmingly Christianity.
