2017. Debt. Had to move twice into less appealing living situations. Now have long transit to work and back that makes me feel more drained thus having even less of a chance of working toward my actual goals of becoming successful. But there's still months left, and maybe I'll make it better.

My best year would be harder to determine. I struggle to find a year I call good. Maybe 2006 because I was doing the best at math competitions then, and I thought for sure I'd have made something of myself long before now and had a solid income and family and all that and no debt. I imagine myself from 2006 would feel profoundly disappointed in my current self in 2017.

Another option for best year would be 2014, as that year involved a good move across the country and a name change.

Agreed. I had a whole forum game on GameFAQs based on Spore in the year or so leading up to it, and I wonder after playing it if my forum game was better than the real game. :P

No, I don't regret not voting. Trump didn't win a single county in MA.

Both were bad, Trump is way worse.

I would have voted for Clinton if I lived in a Swing state, but I don't.

This.

Edit: Actually I live in Washington state, but Clinton was still going to win my state. And if she did lose my state then she surely would've lost the election even in the hypothetical scenario where my 1 vote would've allowed her to win Washington instead of lose it.

The main bitch I've heard from critics is that they want to still be able to play their favorite game with full content 10-20 years from now, since they grew up with cartridges and discs (which could provide what they wanted).

Considering the variety of things that mess with this plan (early/day 1 patches for major bugs, DRM/always online, physicals containing a DL code instead of the game, large amounts of dlc, etc) I'm not sure even a physical copy can provide this for modern games

Good. Someone already said this so I don't have to write up the post myself.

DreamwaIker

I see 4 votes on Alphabet, 1 on Amazon (which was the first vote someone cast), 0 on Apple, 1 on Facebook, and 1 on Microsoft.

I didn't really expect Apple or Facebok to get many votes. Apple is good at making profit but doesn't really go after a truly wide amount of control. They aren't interested in making an affordable phone for everyone. Facebook, on the other hand, hasn't invested much in AI, and so the services they will provide will lag behind those of the other 4 companies. Facebook and its child Instagram will still be doing well in terms of social media, but they won't extend enough into selling actual products and offering software as a service.

Since someone voted Facebook, I'd be curious as to that person's reasons.

Alphabet is clearly doing well right now, but a majority of their income relies on advertising. And as mobile internet browser ad blockers are becoming more popular (as PCs experienced in the past) and I'm sure in time app ad blockers will become more popular as well, I could see their business model taking a big hit. But google does have the best AI going for them, and perhaps they can evolve in the ad world and prosper.

I voted Microsoft because I imagine in 2020 Microsoft products (such as Windows or Office) will still be running on the great majority of devices. But I might be biased in terms of the news I hear of businesses, living over here near the Microsoft campus. And to be honest I'm questioning my vote anyway...

Amazon. I was considering voting for Amazon because they can invest in a new section of the economy and suddenly be on par with the best in that section. They'll be ahead of Microsoft and Alphabet eventually, I think, but will they do it by 2020? Can they beat google's search and AI by then? I am doubtful. But of all 5 companies Amazon may have the most presence in the "real world" in terms of purchases made at supermarkets. They bought Whole Foods, and I wouldn't be surprised if they bought Instacart sometime within the next 2 years as well, given Instacart's current deal with Whole Foods that may prevent Amazon from fully utilizing them for quick deliveries and pickup of food. And Amazon Web Services is very popular. But I guess I figured there may still be many peoplenot really paying attention to Amazon in 2020 who will still be well aware of Microsoft.

So count my vote as Amazon = Microsoft > Alphabet >> Apple >> Facebook.

People are entitled to like the food they like and dislike the food they dislike. Food is not objectively good or bad tasting. Chefs who think they make some dish that is universally good are full of themselves. People who think you should apreciate a menu item exactly as it is traditionally served are full of themselves. If I want to add a stipulation like "no caesar sauce" to my chicken ceasar soft taco, there is nothing wrong with that. If I want my steak well done, there is nothing wrong with that. If I don't want the fancy sauce that some Italian place drizzles over their fancy menu item, that's okay too. And I also don't need to attempt to pair any wines to my food in the designated way or even at all.

When I factored my own online and off, I was in the 11-15 bracket. I wanted this poll to include both because I felt like I didn't get to be as involved as I wanted to be with some if my social groups because I'm trying to do much. I normally don't consider myself a social person, but I guess numerically in terms of the number of disjoint groups in which people recognize my username or face or name or whatever, I actually am kind of social.

I was wondering if I had more groups than most. I was wondering if other people could more easily be a full pariticipant in their communities due to having less communities to split their time among.

Counting both online and in-person social groups of all kinds, how many almost entirely disjoint groups are you in?

Let's consider a group to be at least 4 people. So if you have a knitting club of 4 people (yourself included) that doesn't overlap with your other social groups, that counts as a social group. If you play an MMORPG with a guild that for the most part doesn't know anyone else you know, that counts as a group.

Family should count as a group too. Possibly 2 groups if your family is heavily partitioned in a way that you speak with everyone but 2 halves otherwise don't speak with or know much about each other.

Twitch livestreams can possibly count too if you see a lot of the same people each time you go to a stream.

Your co-workers count as a group too, unless you already counted them elsewhere. People from a past job with whom you keep in touch still should also be counted somewhere.

Carefully list everything out for yourself and determine the total before you vote.

While it wouldn't completely prove it, I could show my transcript that I never took Calculus 3 as a college course. I tested out of it and took Differential Equations my first semester in Fall 2007.

I'm not sure if I still have my old notebooks with worked problems around anywhere, so idk if I can get photo evidence of them. They may be in a box somewhere.

But I really did make this topic just to hear when other people took Algebra I. Not to brag about past me (and present me sure as hell isn't anything to brag about).

I don't believe you.

Larson 8th edition pretty shiny cover. 3 and a half notebooks full of problems worked from the books. My dad bought me the solution manuals too.

My drive to do it stemmed from placing 1st at a state math competition in Precalculus in 10th grade but then not even getting a single trophy in any event in Precalculus at the National version of the competition. I knew the national competition didn't subdivide students into Calc 1 and Calc 2+ so I would be competing against people already with a lot of experience - I wanted to step up my game to be sure I got some kind of placement in 11th, and I did.

Disclaimer: I think this particular competition (National Mu Alpha Theta) took place at the same time as MOSP many years, so it's quite possible the 40 best students in the country were taken out of the equation. Also, "national" was really only like 13 states.

Edit: Thank you, Internet, for having these posted.

8th grade was the earliest it was offered at my school, and was actually considered advanced (the usual path had students taking pre-algebra in 8th grade).

I always did very well in math at school and at competitions, but subjectwise I didn't advance that quickly. I didn't know a thing about Calculus until spring of my 10th grade year, when I encountered an integral symbol on a generic math test (not one specific to a particular course) and asked my other math genius friend a year older about it.

I then "caught up" by learning all of Calc 1, 2, and 3 by the end of February of 11th grade. And then I was lazier in 12th grade.

My math learning curve is strangely shaped.

What grade did you take Algebra I?

I personally took Algebra in 8th grade because my school didn't even offer it any earlier.

But around where I am now most students do Algebra I in 8th grade and it seems LESS rare for a student to do Algebra I in 7th grade than it was at my old school for a student to do it in 8th.

I suddenly began to wonder what year my fellow GameFAQs users took Algebra I and how they feel about when they took it. Would you like to have taken it earlier? Would you have rathered waiting an extra year to take it?

International people can feel free to post as well, but the poll options should be answered by people who took Algebra I in USA schools only.

Where do you even find time to play games? Time just seems to disappear all around me.

In high school and college I had an abnormally high rate of gay roommates, but none ever made moves on me. I'm not really a fan of my own appearance, so I joke to myself that they wanted to room with me because they wanted a roommate to whom they didn't have any attraction.

Studying to be a video game developer.

I am in fact studying to be a banker so oh well

You could always find a happy middle ground and handle the management of in-game currency purchased via real money.
