My copy came super late, but I'm glad it at least showed up! Only got to play a couple hours but the style is sooooooo good so far.

What voices are people playing with? I've heard the dub is pretty darn decent but I just can't say no to the absolutely star-studded cast the Japanese track has. I'd normally play a game like this in English but the star factor plus how insanely Japanese this game is (down to the freaking subways) makes it seem really appropriate.

The whole white washing controversy is really dumb and being perpetuated by people who generally don't know anything about Ghost in the Shell. The Major's character is largely defined by the fact that she's a full-body prosthetic and the concepts of race and gender don't even apply to who she is now. She can choose to be whoever or whatever she wants, and switch between those identities as easily as anyone else changes clothes. Batou jokes multiple times in SAC that the only reason the Major is even a woman is because she prefers the slender frame.

It's kind of fun to think about because eventually (probably not in our life times, but who knows) we'll have real-world cybernetics that reduce age, gender and race to pure preference. What will people spend all day complaining about at that point, I wonder?

I think my record was 4 or 5 days over summer back in high school. Felt gross enough by the end of it to never go more than two without one. (These days the only day I skip a shower is Sunday, because that's my hermit day amid work and social stuff everywhere else.)

Yeah out of everyone who got reasonable screen time I was most impressed with Batou here. Togusa was basically perfect but he gets like one talking scene and one really short action scene so it's not fair to judge. If they do a sequel I'd want to see a lot more of him for sure.

Saw it yesterday. Definitely wasn't great, but it was way better than I expected it to be. "Major" (lol) and Aramaki were basically completely different characters here and it's a more enjoyable movie if you accept that really early on.

That aside, there was a surprising amount of authentic Ghost in the Shell here. The philosophy was insanely watered down but it at least was dealing with the same themes. They had lots of iconography like the beagle, the boat scene, the fight on the water and even the conclusion of the tank fight, which was freaking incredible to see done in live action. Even little touches like Togusa's few lines of dialogue and his use of a revolver showed they actually cared/did their research on the original material.

All in all I'm definitely glad I saw it. Easily one of the more competent western approaches to an anime adaptation (not that that's saying a lot,) but I'd actually be interested to see a sequel with their spin on the Laughing Man, assuming this one's returns warrant it.

Rain isn't so bad once you get a few stamina upgrades but until then it's basically an all-too-common "you're not allowed to climb" weather state. Even then it's easily resolved by finding shelter and making a fire to skip over it, but it's still dumb that it's pretty much just a pure annoyance.

The achievements lead to that teaser site so I'm guessing they're going to announce a PC port pretty soon. Sadly there's almost no way Bayonetta 2 will be ported but I'll take what I can get. A flawless version of Bayonetta on a lagless monitor sounds like heaven.~

I maxed out my castle in the first month of the game coming out and it's pretty difficult to imagine not having it maxed. Like, I can only imagine how much of a slog getting someone to 40 must be without it, but with it you can max them in just a day or two of concentrated training.

Appreciation of KH2's combat is kind of a weird thing. There's this really widespread belief that it's a bad system where you can just mash X and occasionally hit a reaction command to breeze through it. And that's actually true on lower difficulties! When you hit Critical mode though, you can see the game is actually really beautifully set up and demands that players actually learn to play on a higher level. (Especially against Final Mix bosses)

The trick is I'm pretty sure most people didn't play on Critical mode so their claim that the combat is mashy is actually true from their experience. I'm legit not sure whether arguing Critical is how the game was meant to be played is even fair considering "normal" is the baseline for 90% of other games, but it sure seems like they designed the combat with Critical in mind.

I've got 24 Mbps down, which translates to 3.5ish MB/s. Been wanting to upgrade for forever but AT&T (only available provider that isn't complete s***) has my area flagged for only up to 24 and as far as I can figure there's nothing I can do about it. X_X

Your whole thing with "I still get my S rank so it doesn't matter" feels like a really weird argument because by that logic you don't care if the game is translated at all. Which would actually be a more reasonable position than your stance that the game is somehow better for the changes. >_>

Annnnd beat. Great game! Most certainly a case of journey > destination but I don't think this game ever put forth any illusion of caring about its end game. Very comfortable calling this my second favorite Zelda game. Majora's Mask will forever be on top but this came closer to it than I ever expected another Zelda would.

UC3 is way too cinematic of a game for me so I rank it pretty lowly. UC1 is too much shooting (and unrefined, at that,) UC3 is too setpiece-y, UC2 and 4 have the perfect balance IMO.

Geez, I've yet to see anything near that crazy. From what I've heard both the drops and enemy spawns get stronger all around the world depending on how many total monsters you've killed? Not sure of the details but it sounds like I've got a long way to go. (Which is a shame, I'm about to beat the game just because I don't have any more time I can sink into it without neglecting all the other amazing stuff I really want to play. D:)

Gaston not seeming villainous for most of the time is what makes him so great in the original. In any other classic fairy tale like this, Gaston would be the town hero who kills the beast at the end to save the girl. That heroism being flipped on its head is always what made Gaston a cool character to me. The subplot with Belle's father here kind of ruined that and just made him an evil dick to me. Not my favorite Disney villain but he's actually up there! (Frollo's the best, btw.)

Yeah I've played only a little bit of Sound Voltex in arcades but it's definitely a blast. I probably will snag a controller a little down the road to start playing, but for now I'm in a mad dash to finish Zelda, Nier and Tales of Berseria before Persona 5 comes out. Last thing I need is an endlessly playable rhythm game to devour my time.

In 2-3 months once everything's cleared up a bit, I'll start a topic if/when I snag one and start playing, though.~

What are the key differences between your controller and the Virgoo Turbocharger? Quick googling seems to put those two as the go-to controllers for this but I'm seeing pretty split opinions without many details on why one would prefer either. Oh holy hell. I've been so tempted to try getting a version of Sound Voltex running at home because of how awesome it is in the arcades. Mainly stopped because getting arcade versions of rhythm games running on your PC basically requires membership to an EXTREMELY exclusive site and it's a pain in the ass to get in.

I had no idea K-Shoot Mania existed until now! It looks like it's basically a Stepmania for Sound Voltex, down to being able to add all the charts you want? I might be tempted to drop some cash on that controller myself if so. >_>
