It's really probably because P4 is a pretty huge outlier in themes/characters for the series. P1/2 are basically Shin Megami Tensei games with different gameplay, P3/5 feel very much like spin-offs, and P4 feels like JoJo's Bizarre Adventure with a dash of Scooby Doo and K-On.

Casts are affected by this too. P3's group is essentially a bunch of co-workers that only find a closer bond at the end of the story, P5's are angry teenagers rebelling against/trying to fix a world they see as shitty, and P4's are super anime best friends solving mysteries and having fun in their small town. With differences like this it's pretty easy to see that different games will speak to different people. For me, 5 > 4 > 3 but I super easily see why other folks would have 4 or even 3 at the top.

I posted about this earlier, but I 100% agree that the Hawaii trip is obviously bad on purpose and it's going right over a lot of people's heads. Does that make it better than P4's events? Hell no IMO, but you should at least consider it for what it is. P5 (most of the time) isn't trying to have P4's happy-go-lucky slice of life anime events. It does try to have them a couple of times, though, and they fall flat, so there's still a comparison to be had there.

Rhythm and shooters feel like pretty big snubs here, but I guess there's only so much space.

Probably between RPG and Action for me just based on the number of them I play, but I enjoy pretty much all genres besides sports so it's really more about the game itself for me.

Definitely don't agree with this weighing. People seem to think having a godly main cast is a Persona staple just because one game happened to have a stellar cast. Having a cast like that is great obviously but it's not where I put most of the value of the game. If having a strong, interactive cast is where a majority of your value comes from, Tales is a better series than Persona IMO.

5 utterly crushes 4 in pretty much everything other than the main cast's chemistry. Confidants are also pretty far and beyond the best S. Links in the series as well. You can even argue that a game with P5's themes isn't supposed to have all the slice of life moments that P4 has, but there are a couple of moments they do try to have them outside of that and it doesn't work as well. People say the Hawaii trip and other events suck, but they're pretty overtly using them to build the theme - the characters even blatantly say how disappointing the events are. They actually were trying to do SoL stuff with the beach trip though and that was bad, so no excuses there. If P5 Crimson or some equivalent does happen and adds more events to alleviate this problem, I could easily see myself ranking it above P4 in every area.

Even with all that said, 5 is pretty easily the best IMO. The quality of the actual gameplay and how everything with confidants so beautifully weaves into the core gameplay is basically the new golden standard for this type of game.

The whole kid thing would work miles better if the game skipped ahead into the future instead of having some convenient plot point to keep everyone the same age in the same era or time travelling.I'm still waiting for a game to do something like this.The closest i think i've seen is the Agarest series.

Much prefer hard liquor to beer, though I don't drink much of either. A pitcher of Asahi after a stressful week is pretty tops, though. Japanese beer aside, there aren't too many I've liked enough to have more than once.

Closed beta going on right now, was wondering if anyone else was in.

I was expecting the game to be way more Overwatch-y based on the original trailer, but was pleased to see this game is very much Quake with a couple of minor tweaks. If you liked Quake 3 it would seem very likely you'd enjoy this... not sure what else to say about it for now, really! Playing a legit deathmatch game for the first time in 10+ years is a pretty awesome feeling. I don't see too much buzz about the game going on right now which is kind of a shame. Overwatch is a great evolution of the genre, but it would be nice to see an old school arena shooter doing well too.

I downloaded it earlier, but I had to do it in a roundabout way. Had to search Phantom Dust in the Xbone store, which only brought up the multiplayer starter DLC at the time. Clicked that and I was able to find the game under the "works with" section down the page a bit.

Had to do this, too. The Windows Store is almost impressively terrible.

Palace 5 is really long but 4 is the only one to cause me actual fatigue. The middle of the 4th palace and to a lesser degree the set-up for the 5th are the only points of this game I've wanted to take a break. Totally hooked to the point of sacrificing sleep at all other times. >_>

This topic made me remember Predators. I remember that movie coming out and going to see it, but then just flat out never heard of it again. Can anyone a little more knowledgeable on the subject explain how music licensing seems to be a big problem in cases like this and GTA, but in 90% of other cases, songs can stay in games forever with no problems? Is it less the system itself and more drama between the artists and the publisher? I remember that was definitely the case with Anamanaguchi and Scott Pilgrim getting pulled at least.

I honestly wouldn't recommend getting in to figures if you don't have $150 to spare that you can slap down on a figure at once. I know several people who had the same "one or two a year" attitude that now receive monthly shipments. It's very easy to get dragged in.

I've got a pretty big collection of figures. Not like, detolfs full of them but enough to fill 9-10 shelves. They're pretty pricey but also suuuuuuper nice to display. Only things that have ever really bit me with the collector's bug. I also ordered the Arabian Rise, can't wait for it to show up!

FYI though $140 is on the cheaper side for these things. I'd never order them, but some of the crazy ones are closer to $1,000. ($100-250 is by far the most common price even for really nice ones, though.)

Vesperia would be cool. I never played it. No sense in buying a 360 for one game

My 360 RROD'd in the final act of my Vesperia playthrough. I used the towel heating trick to get it to work for one last session to finish it up before the console became completely nonfunctional. Having finished the game I had no regrets about losing the console. >_>

Not sure it really counts seeing as its "main" game is very clearly a beat-em-up, but the Yakuza series has so many different types of gameplay packed into it through its sidequests, minigames and other gameplay segments that at one point or another it's encompassed every genre I could name.
