Nearly every other developed country on the planet had abolished slavery before the 1860s. Civil rights improved over time in those countries independent of what was happening in the US. I would have been amazed if the CSA still had slavery even by World War I. Economic sanctions would have crippled their economy. They probably eventually would have rejoined with the US. Those temperatures usually only happen about once a year, but we had somewhere between 5 and 10 days like that. Nearly every day in July was above 30C. The regular average for July is about 27C. It was nice today, about 28C. This entire week is going to be cool, though.
