Masahiro Sakurai, creator of the Smash Bros franchise and Based Katsuhiro Harada, series director of the Tekken franchise both have said that Smash Bros is not a fighting game. For those not in the loop, Harada’s stance on this is especially interesting because Sakurai hired him (and his team) to develop Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS (Smash 4). Harada is a living legend in the FGC, known for not taking shit from anyone and standing up for his ideals. There have been numerous times where both of these figureheads in the Japanese gaming industry have referred to Smash as anything but a fighting game. Imagine being this salty that people dare call Smash Bros a fighting game. Why does this trigger fighting game players so much? I'd expect them to be more thick-skinned I mean, I can't imagine that whoever wrote that is an adult. --- |

The fundamental gameplay is the same From what I can tell the biggest difference between Smash and others is that Smash has a smaller pool of moves for each character, gives more significance to spatial play, and you win by knocking people out of the level rather than depleting their health bar --- |
