Yes our destructive power is even more immense than it was in the 50s but have we won a war in those intervening years? We are all about 'managed chaos' nowadays and destabilizing that region would have some benefit to the empire but a hot war there would not go well for anybody anywhere. Yes Japan would be down as they need distractions for their people as much as we do but they are hella rusty and will be getting attacked too. China will not sit back and let us Libya their neighbor. And again there is no guarantee that SK would take our side in a potential conflict once Seoul starts getting shelled and they know that they will not benefit from the deaths and destruction where they live, which is thousands of miles away from where we live. Again I see the NK 'crisis' as a way to justify increases in the military budgets and distract away from the middle east which has not gone anything like we hoped it would over the last six years. The hopes of relatively quickly taking out Syria and Hezbollah, Israel then taking out Lebanon, and then us (US, Israel, gulf state monarchies) taking on Iran are long gone now. Assad has almost completely taken back his country and soon we will need to officially declare war against his government to keep our thousands of troops there fighting against Syrian, Hezbollah, and Iranian forces not to mention that Russia is still there too. None of the project for a new american century plans have gone as well as they thought. |

| NYmasajista 08/08/17 5:35:07 PM #11 | The last war there didn't go so well for us as even though we killed 1/3 of their people they still don't do what we tell them. Plus China got involved as they weren't going to sit back and let us destroy their neighbor and put in a puppet, just like we wouldn't let somebody do that to Mexico or Canada. And even with our superior tech we couldn't beat them so we bombed then until NK looked like the surface of the moon, and ultimately for what? Nowadays it wouldn't go better than back then and we would have little to gain from it as Seoul and Tokyo getting wrecked won't help us to gain or retain more allies in the future, theres no oil there, plus we're far too shaky financially to withstand the big hits to the global and our economy that would come from such a war against China. And there is no guarantee that the South Koreans would really be on 'our' side killing their brethren at such cost to themselves and with so little to actually gain from it. The 'crisis' is mostly to justify our military budget since terrorism alone isn't enough of a reason for more F35s and aircraft carriers since ISIS has neither a navy or air force. Besides we're really preparing for war with Iran, which will be at least as bad for us but has enough potential benefits for us and our allies that our leadership can be fooled and deluded into it. |

I'm assuming that you are Canadian, and not the child of a native family that was taken by the government and given to a white family to be raised, to think that your country is really much 'better' than the US. |

Yes the global empire that my country runs is ****ed up but its a product of your past global empires and its colonialism. The EU won't be any kind of superpower ever and will crash when we go down next too. Being 'better' than the US isn't setting the bar very high and your countries don't have any alternatives to neoliberalism and our current system of global finance anymore either so you will crash and burn along with us. Hopefully your feelings of moral superiority will make the horrible future for us all feel slightly less horrible to you. |

I stopped after the eighth book as he was still introducing new characters and I knew he wouldn't finish the series before he died. I was right and apparently the guy they hired to finish the series after he died did a good job. Because of that he'll probably be the guy they hire to finish ice and fire whenever George Martin dies. |

Yeah some of your coworkers can be ***** and mean but they are not actually happier than you, most people are not happier than us its just that we are not psychic so we don't realize this. We all have internal and/or external things we don't like about ourselves, it's a part of being human. Not a fun part, but something that we all have. Don't hide from life learn how to do you and just do it, not for any other reason than its your life and you will be living it until you get to the end of it. |

He continued the wars his cousin started and started some new ones, continued the bailouts his cousin started and didn't put anybody in prison for any of it or break any of those banks into smaller pieces.He also made his cousin's tax cuts permanent and used the ACA to prevent real positive change to our healthcare. Thats a good chunk of the $10 trillion right there as the majority of our national debt comes from expensive wars, tax cuts, bailouts, and quantitative easing. Whether you call him President Wall Street or President Drone Strike that neoliberal hollow man was a more effective evil than his cousin before him since he made so many of the horrible things lil Bush did bipartisan and acceptable and then expanded on them. Which of course was his job as head of the empire. |

Those 100,000+ votes could have helped their woman a lot had they fought for them, instead it was another factor in their losses. The Republicans have been the stronger party during my entire lifetime and the only time they have lost the top seat in 92 and 08 was when their party was fractured with infighting (Ross Perot/Tea Party.) The fact the the job of the Democratic party is to channel or crush opposition to the system from the left has never been more obvious than it is right now. |

Obama through his mother was related to both Bush and Cheney which was another reason she wasn't mentioned very often. But OT neither of those two cousins came up without the blessings of the system and by antagonizing the media. Lil Bush was appointed by the Supreme Court and Obama received the most money from Wall Street, insurance companies, and defense companies ever so neither could be considered 'outsiders.' Trump is an ******* and will probably be in our top three worst presidents of all time with Wilson and Buchanan, but the only reason he is president at all is the opponent he had. And never forget Trump's biggest lie- that he would be different. Yeah it was basically what the guy before him said to get in too but twice in a row really sucks for people that voted for the two of them. |

Back in the day I used to live and work in Mexico for six months at a time and every time I would come back home it was a difficult adjustment. It was always a feeling of 'here hasn't changed but I have' which was hard to explain to the friends and fam but was acute for the first few weeks back each time. You will readjust but it will take a few weeks. |
