I did that thing where I get to the end of a game and lose interest.

Did you get to the end of the game, or ... did you get to the end of the game? That is one of those titles where there is a True End that is not easy to get (and is not hinted at all by the main game).

I personally think BOF1 is great, but it does not gather a whole lot of steam until about mid-game (i.e. when you see the Emperor get his minions together and officially start shit by sending them after you).

Do what my former employer (Borders) should have done: Focus on transitioning from brick-and-mortar to online-only in order to save the business. Except do it intelligently. Borders-dot-com was terrible.

Reminds me of my love of doppelgangers (and of giving them extra levels to keep them up as a real threat to the party, since they are otherwise relatively low-grade monsters).

Thank you all for your suggestions on dimension-sliding. Will have to incorporate that into my next dungeon design (... which is good, since I am normally terrible at dungeon design and need the practice).

August 23, 2017. Hard as it is for me to believe, I have been a member here since 2002, though I have spent most of those years either lurking here or sticking to the individual game forums. High school? Four years. University? Four years. ... Game FAQs? Fifteen years. No idea if I should be proud or ashamed, haha.

And this is where people pop up and say, "Goddamn n00b, I've been here since '96! Fuck you!" Or "I've been here since this web site was a cork board with sticky notes on it that CJayC used to drive from city to city!"

I don't know. Just felt like commemorating that.

I don't know why I didn't think of that. Thank you. Maybe it's because it's been ages since I've been involved in any kind of campaign involving the Planes? (Still have my old Planescapes big box, though I really like the old 1st Edition Manual of the Planes much more.) But yes, I'll remember that if it comes up.

Thanks again, everybody. Now that I've had a long weekend to process it, I'm doing better. I don't know that I'm over it, since it's given me a lot to think about, but I can go back to work today and do my job like normal. If anything, I feel ... older. More adult, maybe. I'm not much younger than my dad was when he lost his father. He and I have always been pretty close, so I just have to make sure I'm around for him. Parents take care of children, and then children take care of parents in the end. That's how it's supposed to work, anyway.

Strangely enough, I'm still up to date on most of the shows I'm following this anime season. New Game! is just great, and Gamers isn't too far behind it. The others (Aho-Girl
and Smartphone et al) are more filler than anything else, but I've seen a lot worse.

The scary thing is that she was fine two months ago, and just a little under the weather two weeks ago, talking to me normally. People are used to thinking of cancer as one of those things that acts like a slow creep, but there are times when it sneaks up on you really, really fast. By the time the doctors had any idea what was happening, it was too late to do anything about it. She was only in hospice for less than twelve hours.

Like I told the folks at work: Give your mom a hug. You only get one, after all.

I have returned. Thank you all for the good wishes and positive karma. Unfortunately, shortly after the doctors moved Mom from hospital to hospice, she passed, so the past three days have been spent with family, though I have been playing Persona 1 and FE Heroes in my down time as comfort food. ... Mom never fully grasped my interest in anime / manga and video games, but she still made a reader and writer out of me. Will not be the same without her around. (Currently dipping into her Stephen King collection to honor her memory.)

Reading a dungeon analysis makes me stop and ask myself how to use a feature like the parallel dimensions in Strange Journey in a D&D setting (i.e. you use a specific ability to "slide" into another version of the same dungeon that has alterations to its basic layout, allowing you to get to restricted areas of the original dungeon by going through the parallel version).

Also: Thank you for remembering that Zelda II exists. The Grand Palace is one of my all-time favorite video game dungeons (because of unique enemies, traps, and puzzles that are not found in any other area of the game).

Rare gaming find of the day (though I did not buy it): Was picking up Munchkin Fu for the family, and the game shop had received a trade of a very old copy of Ironclaw (i.e. the tabletop RPG for furries). Same edition as the one my university game club tested out back in the day. Felt a little nostalgic. ... Then again, I guess it is hard not to be nostalgic about playing a horny kleptomaniac goat.

Life is turning busy in a hurry. My mother is the hospital again (... not looking good, to be honest, but the doctors are on task), I have a lead on a writing opportunity, and it looks like I might be working for my local Game Stop for the holidays as a second job. *shakes head* Unsure about that, since my EB Games job still holds the title as my least favorite job of all time, but a decade and a half of life experience might make it more bearable.

Hmm, I don't do a lot of rewatching, and I usually go years between revisits (see: Evangelion), so new stuff is often the focus. I mean, I'm paying for Crunchyroll and the like, so I'm gonna use it. But rewatches are special, since I get something different out of it due to being older and having so much time pass.

Actually, it'd be kind of funny to see Deen try it, but I can't knock Deen too hard. They might have failed at Log Horizon Season 2 (and spectacularly at Fate / Stay Night), but they also did Sakura Trick. They can animate stuff well when they want to.

Release order, IMO, but the series can be a little annoying to watch because each episode is followed by a four-minute "chibi" mini-episode filler that just keeps you from getting to the next real episode.

Hmm. The only Monster Hunter I have is the PS2 original, and I only have that because my managers at EB Games (... thirteen years ago) pressured me into buying it to boost their pre-order sale numbers (see also: God of War). Could not get into it, but not because of the game play. ... Playing a game I had no desire to buy in the first place is not fun, IMO.

The Gyaru anime is starting to impress me, but it is not quite there yet. Gamers! is still plenty of fun, though, and Aho-Girl ... is what it is.

Qualidea Code had a couple of moments where it actually looked pretty good, but, for the most part, yeah, it went to shit pretty fast. (Watch Girlish Number if you want to see one of the writers behind QC throw shade at it.)

Def surprised, given your opinion about Awakening and Fates, that you don't care for the Radiant games.

Like I said, I'm kind of a rare bird in that regard. Love the GBA games, especially Blazing Blade (best translation, IMO; they got Alexander O. Smith to do it), but the characters in the Tellius games just didn't click for me. Except Heather in Radiant Dawn, and who doesn't like Heather?
