seems pretty clear that it's a combination of rent deregulation from the early 90s coupled with feel-good penalties issued by an organization that lacks the means or the desire to collect, all enabled by the influx of LLCs that started popping up because 1) it allows the landlord to remain detached from their properties, and 2) those same LLCs can contribute to legislators as individuals, thus multiplying the political influence of said landlord

it's not OED-grade material, but it's not a terrible definition of the colloquial use. the "domineering" bit saves it

there's also the rather inconvenient fact that there is no standardized C++ ABI. it just so happens that we all either use MSVC-style or GNU-style mangling. this makes interfacing other languages with C++ such a pain in the ass that the end result is always them saying "if you need to call out to an external library, just use C"

as far as C++ has come, it's still held back by the lack of a proper module system. the preprocessor is downright prehistoric, and template definitions being limited to header files makes compilation time skyrocket

well, I guess the first step is to take a good look at how the current system operates and decide which components can be reused and which should be replaced. hopefully it's not one of those god-awful opaque "all in one" solutions that force you to rely on the developer for everything

I would really avoid recreating your inventory database system if you can avoid it
