I think you're making a logic leap, here.

Those are the reasons they stated for not sharing his info.

You're connecting the "We reserve the right" part directly to that, but there is no language actually specifically doing so. It could be one clause, it could be two. We don't actually know. They could be threatening him, or they could be covering their own asses for if they ever DO have to give his name out in case anybody goes "But you said back then that you wouldn't."

We simply don't have enough info to actually know.

I just don't see any reason to assume this to be true. Finding out his information is a thing you'd expect a news outlet to do if they were trying to look into him more, since you'd assume they'd look to see if his views on reddit were reflected on his Twitter, Facebook, etc. Contacting him is also something you'd expect a news outlet to do.

I'm not saying no threats occurred. Just that, at this time, I don't see anything outright saying they did.
