It takes a much longer time to die from being in icy water (typically about 15 minutes before hypothermia begins to set in while in the water, even longer still for body temperature to drop to lethal levels) than boiling hot water. Spending one minute in the water to save his dog won't kill him as long as he takes steps to prevent hypothermia after getting out which was done by onlookers that called 911 on his behalf. From what I've gathered it sounds like a man was asked to get off a plane, he refused, so they removed him. Sounds fair to me. Flight was fully booked. United wanted to replace passengers with employees that were slated to work on a flight in another state. Passengers did not want to accept offer of $800 and hotel stay for leaving voluntarily. United runs lottery to decide who gets forced off of flight. Lottery falls on the doctor who was supposed to be at a hospital the next morning. Doctor tries to refuse, so United called security to rough him up before taking him off of flight instead. CEO lies about situation. The end. --- Hmm... |

As I said, neither side was willing to pick their battles carefully even when clearly presented with the worst case scenario of having their say in the process shown the door and hitting them in the ass with it on the way out. Democrats were simply shown the nuclear option card sooner rather than later and still held their ground despite it. Frankly, filibustering (especially for appointments of any nature) should never have been a thing to start with, especially with one of the most toxic legislatures in history. --- Hmm... |

Republicans acted irrationally according to their party lines then and paid for it by continuing to filibuster once the nuclear option was placed on the table, Democrats showed that they were willing to act irrationally according to their party lines now and paid the same by being stubborn in the face of the nuclear option.
