not really related to anything here but I just need to rave a bit about this game I started playing recently called distorted travesty 3

it's a 2-d sidescroller platformer action metroidvania(??) sort of game. Made by a single guy, available completely for free, composed probably 99%+ of assets just lifted from commercial games... and despite all that it's one of the best games I've played in the past few years

definitely recommend to anyone who is a fan of classic mario or megaman X or really just any fast paced 2D game

That may have been true 10 years ago, but less true today. Piracy existed because either products cost too much or people have limited access to them.

People used to have a hard time finding old movies or anime, so they torrent them. Games used to cost $60...and they still do, but inflation and rising wages has made them cheaper. Mobile games are dirt cheap and Steam/Origin have deals all the time.

I think society is slowly being trained to use streaming and digital distribution for all their gaming, porn and entertainment needs. Once anime and movies becomes available immediately, the entire torrent community would be dead.

As long as the standard for movies / ebooks / games / etc is streaming or downloads that come with a lot of restricted rights and the ability for the provider to essentially "recall" the stuff you bought, I don't think torrents and piracy are going away. There's enough people who want to own copies of the stuff they get and if official services are not providing that then they really only have 1 other option

they're pretty much down, they lost some stuff in the switch and there's currently two competing replacements both sing the same name that are both really lacking in various ways. They also probably lost tons of seeders in the swap

I liked it, but I also really got the feeling like the level designers weren't told the hover nozzle would be in the game, and as a result designed these really cool levels and platforming segments that end up never even being seen because you just hover over everything

- coherent plot
- good acting
- well designed soundtrack
- interesting characters and character interaction

yeah animemaru is just a parody site though sometimes they write pretty believable stuff (which I guess is a mark of being a good parody site)

hiragana look more distinct imo, there's a bunch of katakana that look very similar to each other

also hiragana get used a lot more so you'll see them a lot more so you'll get a lot more practice and they'll just naturally feel easier

Wrong. It doesn't work like that. 100 machines is 20 times more than 5, so that means they do everything 20 times faster. So 20 times 5 minutes is 100 minutes. pit of trials should have let you skip a certain number of floors based on your character level or story progress or something. You're probably gonna wait until very lategame to do it and by the time you do the vast majority of the battles are a cakewalk and the real trial is not falling asleep while playing

Still a very fun game overall though

some guy I know wrote this giant tweet chain about general western prejudice towards japanese stuff that I kinda agree with but I can't find anymore because he spams way too many tweets

the biggest point of it though was that there is definitely a major prejudice against japanese stuff even if you don't really notice it. Consider how many people think japanese media always has bad writing, or is all just for perverts, or is cliched and repetitive. Consider how if you're recommending a jrpg or an anime or a manga or whatever to someone who isn't somewhat into the culture already, probably one of the first things you will say is "it's ok it's not that japanese"
