that line in the finale where Chuck said "You never really mattered that much to me" really hit hard. That was tough.

You're supposed to feel conflicted. The opening scene of the episode -- with Chuck reading The Adventures of Mabel to Jimmy in the tent -- is clearly meant to show that Jimmy "mattered" to him quite a bit, going back to their childhood and extending well into adulthood. Chuck obviously didn't mean that as broadly as he said it, and I think Jimmy knows that, but it doesn't make those words less hurtful.

After all, Chuck's depression and mindset in this episode come after he was publicly embarrassed in court during Jimmy's hearing and because he lost the last thing that gave him any sense of pride and connection with a normal life -- his law partnership. And he lost that solely because of Jimmy -- because of the con last season where Jimmy doctored the files, and then again because Jimmy got the insurance agent to jack up Chuck's malpractice insurance, which spurred Howard's move to have him retire.

However, while we know Chuck was trying to be a dick in his talk with Jimmy, the episode painfully shows us exactly how mentally ill Chuck has been this entire time. The scenes with him tearing about his house were just so uncomfortable, and I personally couldn't help but feel pity for him. His final gesture of killing himself in one of the most painful ways possible is clearly not a sign of someone who is at all functioning in the real world. Or likely had been for quite some time.

Yeah, the only thing I didn't do is I was going to close the garage door on him while I looked for a leash. He followed me inside but I thought trapping him might freak him out. I just worry because he's a really sweet dog, but also a pup and a pit and I know how some people react to seeing a bigger dog getting excited and running around.

It was well worth it for him. Hell, at the time, I had been helping him get his finances back in order and he's now gone from hemorrhaging money and nearly losing his house to doubling his income and being able to retire over 3 years. He even gives me lessons for free.
